What to Do in Kissimmee, Florida

Kissimmee Theme ParksKissimmee is a favorite destination among Disney-bound vacationers who love the affordability of staying outside the resort area and also want to see more of Florida than the Mouse. (Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex, in particular, is located right in Kissimmee!) SeaWorld, Universal Studios, and the Kennedy Space Center are popular Orlando attractions that Kissimmee tourists frequent. However, Kissimmee is so much more than Orlando! Basically, when you think up a generic family vacation, Kissimmee comes to mind.

Old Town, for one, will easily be a highlight of your stay in Kissimmee, Florida. The mini city is packed with carnival-esque rides, live entertainment, restaurants, shops, and special events. Parking and admission to Old Town is free, and with a cheap wristband, you can enjoy all the rides – like the Century Ferris Wheel, Skycoaster, and Super Shot. While every aspect of Kissimmee’s Old Town is attention-grabbing, the weekly car shows are a special treat. The Saturday Nite Cruise and Friday Nite Cruise feature a sparkling procession of classic cars, ranging from hot rods to mustangs! The Thursday Bike Nite is one of Old Town's newer traditions; fans of the two-wheeled beauties congregate every week for this. The Haunted Grimm House, a two-story Victorian mansion dating to the late 19th century, is another Old Town must-see and it's is sure to spook parents and their kids. If you’ve got children, book one of our Kissimmee villa rentals near Old Town so you can spend several days shopping, while the youngest vacationers seek thrills on the rides.

Kissimmee is really a dream-come-true for the little ones. Not only are SeaWorld and Disney World a quick drive away, but Kissimmee is overflowing with kid-friendly attractions. Milk a cow at the Green Meadows Petting Farm, race go-karts and play laser tag at the Happy Days Family Fun Track and Amusement Center, go ice skating at the Ice Factory of Central Florida, or show off your mini golf skills at one of many putt-putt parks, which include Pirate Island Adventure Golf.

Kissimmee won’t just please the kiddos, though. There’s plenty for the grownups to enjoy, too, like the full-fledged Kissimmee Rodeo, active every month out of the year but December! Meanwhile, your heart will race as you race around a NASCAR track at Full Speed Race & Golf – don’t worry, you’re totally safe in these simulated races. You can even go head to head with a pal.

Kissimmee rentals are also your comfy gateway to Florida’s unique culture and history. The Kissimmee Air Museum, National Softball Hall of Fame, Flying Tigers Warbird Restoration Museum, and the Osceola Center for the Arts all help to keep Kissimmee a one-of-a-kind family vacation spot.

But what about the golfers in your group; is there anything in Kissimmee for them? The Falcon’s Fire Golf Club is a championship course and it’s among many fine Kissimmee courses.

Other athletic types can hit Lake Tohopekaliga or Lake Kissimmee (two of the five lakes that belong in the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes), on a jet ski or just regular water skis. Anglers will enjoy some of the best freshwater fishing in the state! If you’re looking for more than just recreation on the water, but education as well, the Boggy Creek Airboat Rides will take you on an easygoing tour of wetlands wildlife, including alligators and turtles. Need a little more nature in your Kissimmee vacation? The Disney Wilderness Preserve, JungleLand Zoo, and World of Orchids (a stunning greenhouse), are all easy to get to from any one of our Kissimmee vacation home rentals.

When to Visit Kissimmee

Kissimmee vacation rentals are never out of season. That’s because the weather is great for outdoor recreation throughout the year, and there are hundreds of indoor attractions for those rare days when it’s not so sunny. Family fun is a never-ending occurrence in Kissimmee! A good rule of thumb, though, is to book one of our Kissimmee villas during a time of year when it’s not so “hot” to visit Disney World. This will mean lighter crowds, as well as cheaper airfare and rental rates! Wintertime, with the exception of Christmas week, is a great time to book a Kissimmee vacation rental if you hope to save as much money as possible. However, if all you want is lots to do, then come to Kissimmee in its peak travel season, summer.

Some events to take note of when making your Kissimmee vacation plans are New Year’s Eve at Old Town and the Festival of Lights Parade in December.

What to Bring to Your Kissimmee Rental

Because every Kissimmee vacation itinerary is different from the next, there’s no standard packing list! Check the weather reports and iron out your plans so you’ll have a good idea on what to bring. Casual clothes, good walking shoes, and sun block are all required, though.

Remember, Kissimmee vacation rentals are normally stocked with everything you need – from beach towels for the lake to high chairs for the kids.
