What to Know About Bullhead City

In the 1800s, Bullhead City was called Hardyville after its most prominent resident, William Hardy, who had a ferry service that crossed the Colorado River and was a postmaster, county supervisor, and member of the Arizona Territorial Legislature. It then became a ghost town at the beginning of the 20th century because the railroad was built bypassing the town. It was revived with the building of the Davis Dam in the 1940s and '50s. The dam was originally called Bullhead Dam after Bull's Head Rock, and Hardyville was renamed Bullhead City. The city's population now is around 40,000 residents.
