We recently stayed here with our 3 kids (ages 6, 4 & 1). I was pleased to see the house was could have eaten a meal on the floor. The house was stocked with toys, games, kitchen ammenities...even "baby" silverware ( which I forgot to pack). The property is well kept and gorgeous. Jim was easily reached with any questions we had. We plan to stay again. We reccommend this to anyone!!

Excellent Corporate Retreat

  • 5 of 5
Our leadership team heads "up north" every October to have some quiet time to review the past year and plan for the next year - - and mix in a little R&R as well. This cottage was a huge hit with our whole team. Lots of room to sleep everyone comfortably, we met alternately at the dining room table or spread out in the lakefront living room. This is by far the best place we have rented for our planning retreat! We are planning to return in 2014.

Annual Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5
We have been renting the Duneview for the last 5 or 6 years for our family vacation. My two sons and their families along with a sisiter-in-law and her children. We range from 66 years old to 6 years old and each of us look forward to the next year's vacation. There is never a lack of something to do regardless of the weather. The closet full of games, puzzles and books along with the piano keeps everyone entertained. The guys enjoy spending their time fishing while the kids enjoy the paddle boat and the kayacks. The house is very well equipped with whatever you might need in the kitchen including utensils for making smores around the campfire. I cannot say enough how we have enjoyed spending time together at this lake side home. On our most recent visit we were fortunate to meet Jim and Carol, the owners, and we had a very pleasant visit. We have always found the house to be clean when we arrive. The sunsets are spectacular. Everyone is always rushing to get sunset pictures. Thanks, Jim and Carol for making this great vacation home availabe to us.

Another Perfect Vacation at the Duneview House!

  • 5 of 5
Our family has been staying at this home for a week at a time in late June for at least four years now. I think it gets better every year. There is so much for the kids to do....volleyball, paddle boat, kayak, tube, fish right from the yard or even ride their scooters down to the Marina for ice cream. Even on rainy days they have a blast in the most perfect kid's room ever upstairs. We've slept 12 people comfortably and never felt cramped in the house. Every year we pack less and less as we've learned that the house is wonderfully stocked.....fry pans, griddle, plates, towels....etc.... The sunsets from the back of the house are breathtaking and one of the highlights of the trip. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us each summer. It's a memory we all treasure.

The good, The bad & The ugly...

The good, The bad & The ugly...

We have a rather large group of family members that has made a yearly week long vacation a tradition for about six years now. We have used VRBO for nearly every trip we have taken and have been repeat visitors to the places we have really liked. We usually travel south but decided to try a change of scenery this year.
GOOD- The view from the home is exactly as depicted in photographs. The sunsets were beautiful and there was usually a nice breeze coming off the lake.
BAD- We are a very clean bunch and always take our shoes off at the door, after being in the house for a very short period of time and the bottoms of our feet were black from the grime on the floors, we assumed that the floor had been mopped between rentals. We made it clear there would be twelve in our party when we signed the rental agreement although we arrived to find 8 towels and 8 wash cloths, and a note asking us to please not use the washer too much because the septic couldn't handle it! We were a little apprehensive about the fact that the home sleeps twelve people and only has TWO bathrooms as it was. There was alot of pee-pee dancing during our stay. The pictures make the home look secluded- it is NOT! It is smack dab next to a public boat launch, that has a fragrant public port a potty that borders the driveway to the house, which I suppose could have helped us out during desperate moments when no bathroom was available but none of us could handle the smell outside of the port a potty, can't fathom what the smell inside would have been! Also we may be a little spoiled because we have been very lucky to rent some beautiful places over the years but there is no dishwasher! Washing dishes are not high on the list of vacation activities we enjoy. The furniture was pretty shabby and upholstery looked dirty. The sofa and recliner in the family room will completely swallow you when you sit in it. We even started to use a small side table only to find it had been propped up with a broken leg. There is no AC which was not a huge issue for us since the weather was fairly cool while we were there, but there was at least one day the house got very stuffy, glad we didn't come in July or August.
UGLY- We followed the instructions at departure to a "T". Everything looked great when we left. We receive our deposit check back minus $25 for excessive grill cleaning? The grill looked better than when we got there we used it twice & cleaned it very well after! There are MUCH nicer places on VRBO!

Owner's Response: We are sorry that our house did not meet your expectations. Regarding too few towels - that was our error and a simple phone call to us would have rectified that immediately. Yes, there is a porta-potty on a neighboring property, but a thick hedge hides it from sight, and in nine years of rentals, no one has ever mentioned smelling it from our property even on windy days, nor have I ever smelled it myself. I can only guess that some kind of issue occurred with it during your stay. Again, had you called us, we would have called the County to come service it right away.

With regards to your other concerns, we believe that we accurately represented the features and cleanliness of the home on the website, and refer the reader to our other reviews.

From the Owner

We purchased our house as our retirement home, but we are still some years away from retiring. So we thought we share our home with guests until those retirement years roll around. It's a peaceful and scenic setting and the water can be viewed from most rooms in the house.
