2 bedrooms, 1 bath, sleeps 6

The '46er', named for those that have mastered the highest peaks in the Adirondacks, keeps with the tradition of 46ers.

She is well equipped, well oriented and surrounded by beauty, leaving you never wanting to return home.

Unlike just another impersonal rental property, you'll find the warmth and comfort of home with soft cushy towels, down pillows and comforters.

The chalet is completely remodeled with hard wood floors, skylights, new kitchen and bathroom.

The chalet is nestled on a hillside facing Whiteface and Stephenson Ranges. Whiteface Olympic Mountain, which is only two miles away and offers the ultimate in winter sports! It was voted the Best Ski Center in the North East!

Lake Placid Village with all that it has to offer is just ten beautiful miles away on the most picturesque road of the Adirondacks. Here you can enjoy shopping, dining, arts and crafts, museums, The Olympic Center, golf, horse shows, movies, festivals, nightlife ... or 'in short' - hustle and bustle of this special, lively Olympic Village.

When your spirit moves you beyond the chalet, so much awaits!

First you'll encounter the large, wrap around deck which sports Adirondacks chairs and an outdoor dining area, and sometimes chickadees that will eat from your hands. You may not get much further for awhile. Many guests fall into the hammock for a snooze or fire up the grill to cook the trout they caught. The hot tub invites you for that romantic or relaxing dip after the day on the mountain. In the evening, there is the stone ring campfire for all the stories of the day.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This house is so relaxing. It is cozy and surrounded by nature. It is trully an amazing place, very serene. You can either get really buzy with all the numerous amazing activities offered in Town or lake placid or you can simply relax on the deck and gaze into the woods and listen to the beautifull sound of nature.

A place when you can really recharge your battery.

Highly recommended. Keep in mind that many of the restaurants around town were not open till May 15 when the season starts again but it was not a problem for us as we enjoyed great cooked meals on the BBQ and ate outside every nights and then cooked some marshmallows in the outside fire pit...great experience especially for kids.

Amazing Adirondack Hideaway!

  • 5 of 5
My fiancée and I decided we needed a vacation. I was tasked with finding a perfect one-week getaway and The 46'er is definitely it. The cabin is fully stocked with everything you would want for a peaceful romantic retreat in the Adirondacks. Renata and Charly have done an amazing job of stocking this retreat with all the little touches that make it feel as one is coming home to their own magical retreat. Every drawer and nook held another wonderful surprise that made our trip just that more perfect. It is clearly evident that the owners love this cabin as much as their guests. They have left no detail unchecked with property and they were both excited and happy to offer advice on what to do in the local area. For a first time visitor to the Adirondacks, their vast knowledge and willingness to share was invaluable. We went hiking every morning out the back yard on miles of trails that surround the property. For a wonderful early morning view of Whiteface, We highly recommend hiking to a small clearing up a 4-wheeler track out the back yard. We grilled almost every night and enjoyed much needed relaxing soaks in the hot tub on the tranquil privacy of the wrap-around deck. It was a spectacular feeling to relax and simply gaze at the pitch-black country sky full of stars one will never see in the city. A rainy day meant chili in our crock-pot and Casablanca on the TV (thanks to their wonderful movie selection). A second rainy day was no worse. We simply enjoyed the peaceful silence that comes from no outside distractions. The pitter-patter of raindrops on the roof recalled a simpler time while we relaxed on the couch each with a good book. No annoying cell phone calls, no intrusive Internet, no loud neighbors, just the wonderful luxury that is peace and quiet. We loved reading books from their diverse selection, hiking with our Scottish Terrier, canoeing on a nearby lake, shopping in Lake Placid, and wine tasting at some of the local wineries. Dinner at The Hungry Trout was a wonderful experience. Hiking at the nearby Wilmington Flume and up Whiteface was just as fun. The best part of the trip was being able to bring our Scottie. He loved chasing the numerous squirrels and chipmunks that inhabit the property and we loved not having to worry about him in a kennel for the week. It was great to have our entire family (man, woman and Scottie) together on vacation. It truly was Heaven on Earth. We are already planning our next trip!

Perfect Lake Placid retreat

  • 5 of 5
My boyfriend and I stayed at the chalet in early Sept of 2014 for a 4 night stay. We were so happy that it was pet friendly, so his dog, Riley, could come along too. That was very important to us, because we had been searching for a pet friendly location. We had a great time during our stay. It was my first visit to Lake Placid, and I am hooked!

The chalet itself was comfortable and had all the necessities. It was perfect for two people and a dog. We enjoyed cooking on grill, eating outside on the large deck and using the hot tub every night after a day full of activities. The hot tub was a huge bonus and a nice feature that not every rental has.The location of the chalet was ideal. We were minutes away from Whiteface mountain and High falls gorge. About 20 mins from the village at Lake Placid where we enjoyed the Lake Placid pub and brewery and also close to most of the Olympic venues. On our last day we drove a little over 30 minutes to Ausable chasm, which we highly recommend. It truly deserves its name as one of the NY state's natural wonders. That was probably our favorite thing we did on the trip, the boat ride at the end is definitely worth it.

We only ran into a few minor issues with the chalet itself, mostly related to the grill. And our last night at the chalet we were surprised to find another guest in the chalet- a mouse! He was safely returned outdoors.

Booking and contacting Renata was very easy and I always got a prompt response. The security deposit was mailed back promptly within 2 weeks of our stay. Those touches would make me want to stay again or at another one of their locations. We had an amazing vacation and hope to come back again next year!

Owner's Response: We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay at "The 46-er". Thank you for taking your time to share your experience!

We really appreciated you letting us know about the issues with the grill, we had Jim take care of that on your departure.
As for the visitors, we learned that not only we had a "mousie" being attracted to "Our Secret Getaways" but a bear as well, who stopped over to check the goodies in the trash cans!
We are located in a wild part of the Adirondacks and even though we take the necessary steps to discourage wild visitors it is almost impossible to avoid it completely, especially this time of the year, when everybody is looking frantically for Winter Accommodations.

All the Best!

Giving Thanks

It has been four long years since we have been blessed enough to visit the 46er and we were somewhat worried that we had elevated this special paradise into something beyond what it was. Thus, we were quite pleasantly surprised to see that our memories had, if anything, not given full justice to the timeless beauty and relaxation that comes free with a stay at this very special place. Although bitterly cold out (even for Vermonters), the cabin was warm and cozy and the hot tub was just perfect on the long wintery nights (though the short walk from the tub to the door, while well worth it, was not quite so perfect). Our stay at the 46er made for the perfect relaxing Thanksgiving holiday and our Scotties absolutely loved their time chasing the many squirrels and chipmunks throughout the property. They enjoyed just lying by the fire chewing a bone even more. The kitchen more than lent itself to a simple Thanksgiving feast and we were quite content with every amenity offered. Shopping in Lake Placid on Black Friday was surprisingly relaxed and was just an easy 15-minute drive on a lovely mountain road full of wonderful scenery. Our only regret was the shortness of our stay. We look forward to returning to this hidden gem in the heart of the Adirondacks for another full week and we know our Scotties do too. The 46er will always be a very special home away from home for us. The owners and their property manager do a fantastic job to ensure your stay will go smoothly and they are always happy and available with any question or concern you might have. Thank you again for sharing this cabin with us.

Comfy and Cozy, Perfect Honeymoon

  • 4 of 5
This was out honeymoon getaway. We had never been to the Adirondacks before, but we definitely want to go back. Lake Placid is about twenty mins away and very charming. The cottage was very cozy, we made good use of the fireplace and hot tub. This cottage was perfect for our honeymoon, but with the two twin beds in the loft would also be great for family getaways.

2012 Christmas Vacation (Nocito Family - Philadelphia, PA)

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I and our eight year old son stayed at the 46-er over the 2012 Christmas and New Year’s week (Dec 22 - Dec 29) and it was an awesome home and location (it is really only 2 miles from Whiteface Mountain!!!). We are not lodge-people; we like a private home with a great location, fireplace, and hot tub.

I don’t know where to begin complimenting this home; location, location, location, beautifully decorated, great hardwood floors, perfect size kitchen and well stocked, great fireplace with dry and conveniently located wood, big wraparound porch with a large hot tub, and responsive & accommodating local property managers (BIG thank you to the Davis family)!! We had 20 inches of snow fall in less than 24 hours and the street, deck, and driveway were plowed multiple times!

We truly loved this home and would love to come back! We have a four-year tradition in the making where we spend the week between Christmas and New Year’s away skiing, and next year we are already scheduled for the west coast, otherwise would be coming back for 2013. We will definitely be back to the 46-er in the next 3 or 4 years (if available)!!!

CLEANISNESS: house was very clean!!
BONUS: Pet friendly
GRIPES: Our one and only gripe is the coffee maker is old and does not keep your coffee hot.
NEEDS: You must have an SUV or 4-wheel drive anywhere in upstate New York (obvious!!)
SUGGESTIONS/OPINIONS: best grocery shopping is in Keene before you get into Wilmington or Lake Placid proper (9 to 11 miles past the house). Purchase fire starter bricks as there was no kindling or ax to make your own kindling (no biggie, just nice to know beforehand)
WHITEFACE MOUNTAIN: Great Skiing! Snowboard/Ski school was excellent for our son! Before Whiteface we skied and put our child in the following ski schools: Stowe, VT; Sun Valley, ID, and Big Sky, MT, and this ski school was as good and equally accommodating!!
HOME OWNER/LOCAL PROPERT MANGERS: friendly, helpful & accommodating!!

Owner's Response: Thank YOU Jane!

You don't even know what it means for us to hear back from our guests.

We do take pride in what we do and a feedback from our guests is essential in creating the best possible experience for us all.

I'm on the mission to buy a new coffee maker, nobody mentioned it's dysfunction earlier.
This is a great example of how the feed back is important, since you only learn about it through experience, when you stay at the place.

Thank you again for being our guests, and please don't hesitate to let us know when you are ready for your next visit to any of our Vacation Homes.

Great stay!

  • 5 of 5
Me and my husband wanted to have a relaxing weekend in the mountains. We had been looking for a little cottage with a hot tub and The 46'er seemed to be the ideal location. The woods around the 46er had some wonderful walking trails and the cabin itself is cute and romantic and has an eclectic assortment of furnishings and decor. As soon as Renata found out the hot tub wasn't working and couldn't be fixed, she contacted us and offered a very generous solution. We ended up staying a second day in another property of hers that had a working hot tub, which was great after our day of cross country skiing. Lake Placid is definitely worth a visit and our stay was absolutely wonderful thanks to Renata.

  • The chalet is really special in that it is comfortable for a family or a group of friends, yet still intimate for a couple alone. It's a great place just 'to be'- sitting up in the loft in the comfy oversize chair, reading a good book while listening to the gentle rain on the skylight or in the living room snuggled on the couch by the fireplace warming your soul.(At the 46er your firewood is cut, stacked and ready to go.) Or perhaps you prefer sitting on the meditation pillow, listening to the transcendental music while receiving the healing energy of this magical place. There is always a soft throw or a blanket at hand to wrap yourself in and many beautiful pillows to arrange for that 'just perfect fit'. In the winter, you'll appreciate the hot water radiators for warming-up your towels or drying wet mitts and socks. The new boiler provides(truly) unlimited hot water showers. The kitchen is well equipped, making it easy to fix a simple breakfast or a Thanksgiving Feast!
