About the Owner

We live in the Boston area and have 20+ years experience on MV. Our first trips to MV involved bringing our bicycles on the ferry and biking the entire island. After an exhilerating day, we'd grap a cup of chowder and a beer and reluctantly catch a late ferry back home. We knew then we were hooked. We couldn't wait to get back to MV. Then we started staying in charming Inns for long weekends which lead to renting houses with friends over the years in Gay Head and Chappy. During these years we still biked a lot and learned the island very well and agreed that Edgartown was our favorite place to be because it was charming, convenient, and yet not too busy. Once we started having kids, it got harder and harder to haul all our toys for just a week or two during the summer, so we started looking at property and found this gem in 2001 and have enjoyed our MV experiences even more. Based on our own experiences, we try to make it very convenient for our renters by trying to have almost everything you need except for your food and clothes so your rental experience is less stressful and you can concentrate on having a relaxing vacation.

Quaint lovely cottage on the Vineyard

  • 5 of 5
Our family was scheduled to go to Ghana this past August on a medical volunteer trip. At the very last minute, we were forced to cancel because of impending worries about the Ebola outbreak. Disappointed, we decided to try to search the internet to help make it up to our children. As if it were meant to be, after a quick and hopeful internet search, we happened to stumble upon the listing for this cottage. The listing appeared to have had a last minute cancellation during the exact week that we were already scheduled off for. We immediately contacted the owner of the posting. Marcia was most accommodating in helping us to expedite the process, and before we knew it we were set to arrive at the cottage on the beautiful Martha's Vineyard within the next few days. The stay was simply wonderful. The location was ideal, the beaches were an easy bike ride away, and the nearest towns were easily accessible as well. Because of our last minute trip, we were not able to secure a reservation on the ferry to bring our car. However, this was not at all a problem because the cottage was fully furnished with anything we could possibly need. This included beach chairs, a fully supplied kitchen, linens, and a laundry machine. The outside accommodations included a hammock, an outdoor shower, and a lovely porch complete with a glass patio table and grill. Everything was impeccably clean. We are delighted to think that we could return to this lovely cottage again for summers to come as a family, creating special memories.

Perfect Katama/Edgartown, MV Beach Cottage

  • 5 of 5
My boyfriend and I stayed in this MV Guest Cottage during the last week of August 2014 and could not have asked for a more ideal vacation. It is the perfect spot for a relaxing, authentic Martha’s Vineyard get-away. The location could not be better -2 miles to beautiful Katama South Beach and 1 mile to the downtown area of Edgartown with lots of cute boutiques and restaurants. The MV bus stops on Katama Road, just steps from the private road this cottage is located on and is an easy and quick ride into Edgartown or over to Oaks Bluff. If you’re active, the house location is wonderful for running the various loops around Katama and Edgartown and biking the island is also great.

The guest cottage is well appointed and it definitely shows that the owners take great pride in up-keeping the home as everything is spotless and the décor is super beachy cute! There is a full kitchen including everything you need to whip up snacks, beach picnics and seafood dinners. The back patio is a magical place to unwind after a day at the beach or sightseeing. We thoroughly enjoyed grilling fresh seafood and farm stand corn on the gas grill, relaxing with some wine and watching the sky fill with stars. The guest cottage is private and secluded from the main house so that you feel that you’re very separated from the main house and its’ guests. The cottage offers all that you need to feel like it’s your home away from home –good size bedroom, ample closet space, living room and separate dining area and a washer/dryer which is fabulous to have on a beach vacation! The bath and beach towels are also great quality. And, the outdoor shower is fantastic!

We’d highly recommend this beach cottage. It definitely helped in creating a magical vacation for us and we’ll return next year for sure!

lovely stay

  • 5 of 5
My parents rented the guesthouse while my husband, kids, and I rented the main house. It was a perfect set up. The guest house is very private from the main house but we were close enough to really spend the vacation together. The guesthouse is quite spacious inside and is very nicely decorated. They enjoyed the peace and quiet while being able to have a quick car ride into town. They also loved the outdoor shower. My parents were thrilled with their stay and are looking forward to returning again.

Fabulous cottage in beautiful Martha's Vineyard

Fabulous cottage in beautiful Martha's Vineyard
  • 5 of 5
We had a fabulous stay in this beautiful and well equipped cottage. The property has been lovingly maintained and was spotless with even a welcome pack to greet us. Felt like home from home. Location was excellent for cycle to Edgartown and also Oakbluffs and we managed this easily with a 10 and 7 year old with no complaints! Lots of dining options nearby with the rest of the island really accessible by car. Martha's Vineyard is a truly beautiful island with stunning beaches and a great feel to it. The guest cottage was an excellent base for exploring and then getting back to relax in the well maintained gardens in the evening. Plenty of space for us whilst letting the kids play ball in the gardens. Marcia was excellent and very easy to deal with in the run up to the rental and even dropped by to say hello which was a great touch. We regularly holiday in new places and try to let the kids experience different destinations. Despite the long journey from the UK we will definitely be back to stay in this fabulous, well maintain and located cottage. Enjoy

Quintessential Martha's Vineyard

Quintessential Martha's Vineyard

Our family of four from Northern California arrived off the ferry in Vineyard Haven, and were immediately taken by the charm of the island. As we drove to our destination in Edgartown the sights were captivating. The anticipation of a New England summer vacation was now our reality, and it didn't disappoint for an instant. The landscape of weathered shingle-siding homes and lush gardens with blooming hydrangeas were the backdrop to our two weeks on the island, but it was the shoreline that was the star and coming home from our daily adventures to this wonderful cottage was absolutely perfect!
My husband and I slept in the bedroom and our kids, 10 and 12, slept in the front room. They were content with the pullout sleeper and futon. The open family room and kitchen was spacious for us to come and go. We easily shopped at nearby stores and brought our groceries home to prep easy breakfasts or pack lunches. Additionally, it was so convenient to have a laundry room in the cottage to take care of clothes and towels easily and quickly.
It's clear that the homeowners take such pride in their property. We appreciated how clean and well kept everything was. The interior is well organized for guests, and the yards were well manicured and open - even a hammock and outdoor shower!
While the cottage is to the rear of the main house, it feels very private for the renter. The homeowners are extremely hospitable. If you're looking for a place to rent on Martha's Vineyard, this is the spot for a family of 4 or a couple...It's located perfectly for easy access to the beach, the shops and dining of Edgartown - by car or bike! Our family definitely would like to return to this welcoming, bright and clean rental. Renting this cottage helped us have one of the best vacations our family has ever had!

Go-to accommodations in Katama/Edgartown

  • 5 of 5
I have stayed at this super cute guest house several times and plan to continue renting this cottage from the owners. Spacious, clean, very well decorated and the owners are extremely nice, friendly, and accommodating. I would highly recommend this place for short or long stays --- it has every amenity you could need. Perfect for time away with the hubby, a girls trip, and for a small family.

The cottage is even bigger than my NYC apartment! I love sitting out on the back patio in the evenings bbq-ing and drinking wine. Super relaxing, comfortable --- a real home away from home.

From the Owner

I drove by this house a couple of times when it was on the market. It looked very small from the road and I crossed it off my list. My realtor convinced me to take a drive down the driveway and promised I would be pleasantly surprised. I was! It's a hidden gem and much larger than it appears. There is a large garage structure that used to be a woodworking shop. The previous owner built the Main House as a replica of The Vincent House that is now a museum in downtown Edgartown. Years later, a 1/3 of the huge garage structure was converted into a 900-sq.ft. 1-bedroom Guest Cottage that is a perfect spot for couples or small families to enjoy a fun and relaxing summer vacation.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

Located in the beautiful Katama area of Edgartown and only 1 mile to Main St. downtown Edgartown or 2 miles the opposite direction to South Beach, both accessible most of the way via paved bike path. This rental property street is located past the Katama General Store heading toward South Beach on the first street after the road splits into Katama Rd/Herring Creek Rd. The Katama area is much desired due to the quietness of the area compared to downtown's constant hustle and bustle, yet close enough to walk or bike into town in just a few minutes.

From the Owner

The house is located right off a paved bike path that goes around the 'Katama triangle'. This is a great walk, bike, run, rollerblading path and is ~5 miles total. The Katama General Store is close by and is a popular destination if you want to grab a coffee/paper/scone in the mornings. You can also head into the cobble-stoned sidewalk of downtown Edgartown for some food or shopping (only 1 mile from house) or the opposite direction on the bike path leads you directly to South Beach (2 miles from house). Many of our renters have commented that our location is the best of both world. It's close enough to the action but far enough away for some quiet relaxation.
