About the Owner

My husband and I have been married for 39 years. Now, as empty nesters, we enjoy the freedom to head for the Black Hills and enjoy the peace and serenity our new home has to offer. It also provides us with memorable family gatherings as we are new grandparents.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your home was wonderful and located in such a beautiful setting. We can’t thank you enough for allowing us the experience. We had no idea that there were so many things to do in the area. We explored Custer State Park and Badlands, went to Rushmore and Crazy Horse, Deadwood and Lead, drove over to Devil’s Tower, drove Iron Mountain and Needles highways, as well as stopping at whatever interested us along the way (Hill City is pretty cool), yet felt we only scratched the surface. We could easily have spent another week and, now that we know the lay of the land, plan to return to explore in more detail, especially to hike in the Black Hills.I think my favorite experience may have been when I walked out into the yard about 2:00 AM the first night we were there. The stars were amazing. I can only compare it to camping in Capitol Reef National Park in southern Utah, which boasts the darkest night skies in the lower 48. Big Horn Lodge was equally spectacular, if not more so. I felt like I was in a planetarium. Thanks again for everything. It was truly a great vacation.Jay P.S. I’ve already mentioned your place to a few equally adventurous friends.

Four perfect visits

  • 5 of 5
I just arrived home from a week long stay at the Big Horn Lodge, and as usual, it was perfect. This property has everything except the groceries, and the views from the porch could not be better anywhere in the Hills. Cannot wait to go back.

Fantastic home and location!!

  • 5 of 5
What a wonderful everything!!! The home was great and the location was fabulous! We were close to everything we wanted to see and do. Lots of hiking and sightseeing. We were close to town for great restaurants and grocery. The home was very nicely laid out and it was so peaceful, quiet and private. The home had everything we needed, and was exceptionally clean. In addition, there was no one on any side of you to disturb you, and we watched deer and other animals from outside the window. The owners were wonderful, providing us with everything we needed, and were very responsive to questions and providing suggestions. They were so nice and helpful, and checked in on us to make sure everything was perfect, which it was. I would love to come back here every year - it was truly a great experience.

Owner's Response: We want to thank Renee and her husband for choosing our home for their Black Hills experience. We take great pride in our home and were pleased to see the care they gave it. It is rewarding knowing our home provides the seclusion, comfort and amenities guests are looking for to make their vacation special. Because of the rare location being bordered by both Custer State Park and National Forest with no other homes within a quarter mile, guests feel they are in the heart of the Black Hills. My husband and I stay as often as we can and enjoy seeing bison, deer, turkey, antelope, chipmunks, marmots and an occasional coyote right from our living room. We love sharing our home with guests and hope it provides positive lasting memories. We already have enough to last a life time!

A third perfect vacation

  • 5 of 5
My family and I just spent a third weeklong vacation at this property, and as usual, everything was perfect. The location, comfort, cleanliness, fabulous kitchen, endless dishes and pots and pans. I could go on forever. There is simply no place like it in the Hills. We cannot wait until our return next Sept. Thank you Marletta and Roger. Deeda and Family

Owner's Response: We feel fortunate to have Deeda and her family as guests at our home. How thankful we are that they choose to return each year for their family vacation. Rog and I look forward to having them share our home again next year. Deeda is an artist and this year surprised us with a beautiful painting of a palomino horse. This original painting will be added to the cedar "art wall" for all to enjoy.

Superior Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5
This was the most beautiful house that we have rented and we've rented several. It was spotlessly clean! So many extra special details from wonderful Kleenex and toilet paper to throws on the furniture when we were chilled in the evening! The kitchen was stocked well cooking utensils and spices. Expectations like check out directions, etc. were clearly visible when we arrived. The only thing that we didn't know prior to arrival was that 3 of the 4 bedrooms were located on the first level and the main living area and kitchen were on the second level. We had three people with us who had health issues that made it difficult climbing the stairs. However, a small kitchen area to make coffee in the morning was on the first level. The home is so private and sets back from the main road 1/4 mile. We saw deer every day. Firewood was even provided and we enjoyed a night around the fire. And we were located centrally located to all of the Black Hill attractions. We can't say enough good about this rental. Marletta & Roger made the whole experience so easy from start to finish. Thanks so much.

Owner's Response: I would like to thank Larry and Gale for their kind words. As home owners, our ultimate reward is providing an environment (both inside and outside the home) which enhances our guests' vacation. This is truly our second home, not a commercial vacation rental. We take great pride in making sure it is the quality home guests are looking for.

Amazingly beautiful!

  • 5 of 5
This home is so peaceful and relaxing. It is away from neighbors yet a 10 minute drive to Custer. It is also conveniently located for visiting Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore. The owners are extremely helpful and nice and their home is beautiful. It is well stocked with towels, pillows, etc. and everything in it is high quality and nicely decorated. I would highly recommend this property. We had a wonderful visit there and only wished we had stayed longer.
