About the Owner

After teaching for thirty four years and maintaining cars, airplanes and properties for even longer, we have retired to a life of creating 'home'(s)along the west coast and sharing with others. Our Port Orchard home is a keeper! When we are not working on a home, in a yard, or on the computer, we are enjoying grandchildren, traveling, reading, walking with friends or 'workng out' at the YMCA.

Nice peaceful clean home

  • 4 of 5
Lovely house – spacious, warm, inviting and comfortable. As other reviewers noted – peaceful yet only 5 minutes to downtown Port Orchard so conveniently located. There is only one bathroom but it is large and well-stocked with plenty of plush good quality linens. For those of us who like to cook the kitchen could be better stocked (e.g. missing some basics like measuring stuff, grater, baking pans, etc) but it’s functional. A little short on the wine glasses but lots of coffee cups!

One of the best things about this house is the deck out back which is very private and exceptionally peaceful. From the deck you overlook a greenbelt area with gigantic beautiful trees (we live in Montana but don’t often see trees this tall), lots of birds that sing and chirp, and deer. You can also see this view from windows in the kitchen and breakfast nook area.

TV is wonderful – huge, modern flat screen with good selection of channels including local (we like watching the local news channels when we travel, informative). Owner needs to leave instructions on how to operate the TV remotes. There were 4 of them – a little confusing but we finally got it figured out.

I downgraded this by one star because the internet in the house does not work well at all. Owner needs to upgrade the router and the service. If you’re using phone or IPAD to access internet this is a non-issue but for people like me who travel with their laptops & sometimes need to do work research on the internet we need strong, reliable, fast internet in the home. That’s not the case with this house. It was so excruciatingly slow (felt like the old days of “dial up”) that it was impossible to load most sites such as google maps, weather channel, trip advisor, etc. Took 10 minutes just for the Yahoo mail sign in page to come up, another 5 to sign in and finally get to my Yahoo mail but unable to ever get any emails sent. I gave up and went to the Starbuck’s at Safeway a couple miles away, ordered a coffee, and sat there for a couple hours every day to get my work and travel research done.

Overall except for the internet situation this is a very good VRBO property, photos and description accurately match reality and it was REALLY CLEAN and that is always extremely important to me when I stay at these types of homes. This was probably the cleanest home I’ve ever stayed in. Owners are responsive and refund of deposit was right on time.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding the internet. We well see that it is upgraded. The kitchen supplies have been replenished with new wine glasses, measuring cup, graters and baking pans. We even upgraded the mattress cover! Thanks again for your suggestions.

This was a perfect home for our mini vacation. Perfect size home for us and the 2 kids. May get a bit tight if you have older kids, but was perfect for our 2 teens. Conveniently located close to town and in a very quiet neighborhood. Neighbors were very nice and friendly. Great location for an early morning walk to start the day, and if you are up for the challenge, great exercise climbing the hill from town.
The house itself is quite cute. All the necessities are already there, just grab a few groceries and all else is already in the home.
We took our dog with us and appreciate finding a pet friendly home to stay. Only issue with traveling with a pet here is the lack of a fenced in yard. Not a big issue with us, but if your pet needs to be outside and unattended, it will need to be tied in the front. Other than that, very accommodating home in all aspects. Would recommend it for anyone coming to the area.

A cozy hideaway surrounded by green

  • 5 of 5
Our family of four and our tiny dog stayed in this lovely, well-kept home for two nights. The floors are wood throughout, the furnishings tasteful and refined, and the location was ideal. The property is tucked into a quiet cul-de-sac, so although everything is nearby, one feels as if they are in the forest, surrounded by trees. There is one bathroom to share, but it is large, and in addition to the comfy breakfast nook (with an AMAZING view through it's picture window), there is a big formal dining room with stately chairs suitable for a birthday toast or a Thanksgiving feast. The kitchen was roomy and easy-to-love. All facilities were in good working order; the yard was meticulously kept, and the neighborhood was quiet. Additionally, the property was all on one level, so no tricky stairs to navigate for those with limited mobility. Our host was so sweet and helpful; it was a pleasure. Such a lovely treat in tiny Port Orchard.

My wife and I stayed here during the holiday season. The house was immaculate. It had all the necessities we needed. It felt like home. The neighborhood is quiet and just a short ferry ride to Seattle. Looking forward to staying here again on our next trip to Seattle.

Home Away From Home

Three adults and our young grandaughter stayed here this summer for 6 nights. It is evident that the owner makes a huge effort to provide all the comforts and necessities to make her house convenient and comfortable for her guests. We were close to everything we needed and just up the BIG hill from the pier. Thanks Lorraine for a nice stay.

One chief advantage of staying here is the price: It is very inexpensive for what you get. Also, access to downtown Seattle via the ferry is simple, yet pleasurable with fantasstic scenery along the way. Best of all the house is clean, comfortable, well equipped and very peaceful.
