Overview

Property Details

Updated: Nov 13, 2014
House, 2 Bedrooms + Sunroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-7)

skyLark is beautifully and comfortably modern, balanced with a brute ruggedness that reflects the surrounding dramatic, boulder-strewn landscape on five acres adjacent to the northern border of Joshua Tree National Park. Each room at skyLark is open and spacious with fine, solid furnishings and fixtures, sleek ceiling fans, and finished concrete floors. skyLark is in a spectacular private setting—a place to peacefully while-away the hours—featuring a large patio with amazing views and gas grill, fully-equipped kitchen, dining room, multiple serene indoor and outdoor living areas, and two bedrooms. Though secluded, skyLark is centrally located with easy access to local natural desert attractions, galleries, eclectic shops, farmers market and grocers, restaurants, night-life, music and seasonal festivals. skyLark easily accommodates up to seven guests, with two bedrooms (one with king bed, the other with queen bed), a sunroom with two twin futons, and a single sleeper-lounge at the foot of the living room's wood-burning stove. skyLark can also sleep an additional guest on the extra-long and sufficiently-wide L-shaped sofa in the post-and-beam sunroom perched above views of hundreds of miles of the desert basin and the twinkling night-lights of the towns of Joshua Tree and 29 Palms. The rear of the house is set against abundant rock formations that lead from the property's five acres into Joshua Tree National Park. All linens and towels are made from organic, sustainable materials, and the household products at skyLark are earth-friendly.

Stargazing and silent night hike was amazing. Climbing the rocks in the backyard was an adventure. Having Joshua Tree National Park close by was a bonus. Clean and comfortable. & Susan was easy to work with and nice to talk to. Highly recommend and may consider staying again! :)

Great getway from LA

  • 4 of 5
Skylark proved to be a great place for a weekend getaway from LA. The location is secluded with direct hiking access to Joshua Tree National Park (great for morning walks), but also a short drive to the shops and restaurants in the town of Joshua Tree. Interior furnishings and artwork are eclectic, fun, and comfortable. Owner is quick to respond to any requests and provides detailed instructions to make the whole reservation process and stay easy and stress free.

Serene modernist retreat in Joshua Tree

  • 5 of 5
A really wonderful house that's more spacious than it looks in the photos and decorated with a quirky modernist sensibility. We were thrilled when we walked in the door. Everything was clean and in order--and there was plenty of firewood for the fireplace. It's an incredibly welcoming house.
Spare and serene, it could sleep six easily if one couple slept on the pull down sofa in front of the fireplace. We were four, and never felt crowded. We tossed a coin to decide who got which bedroom--one is as large as a studio apartment, the other much smaller.
The kitchen is big and has a gas stove and a patio just in front for outside dining. Every detail is right. I felt like I was staying in a friend's house, not a rental. A terrific spot for exploring Joshua Tree park and Yucca Valley.
Not to miss: the Saturday morning farmers market in Joshua Tree--and freshly roasted coffee beans from Joshua Tree Coffee Company.

Wonderful house and location

  • 5 of 5
The place was even more beautiful than the pictures. The landscape is extraordinary and the location can't be beat. You can literally walk from the porch to the top of a mountain in about 25 minutes. I did it and it was great! There is no need to drive to go hiking/bouldering.
I would definitely stay there again.

Amazing desert hideaway

  • 5 of 5
This place is awesome! Four of us stayed here (my wife, daughter, son-in-law & myself) for 3 nights just after Christmas. The weather was pretty cold, but you'd never know it inside skyLark. The heating system is great, as well as the wood burning fireplace. The place is spacious and very comfortable and we loved the rather eclectic interior decor. It has all of the conveniences you'd want, including a large flat screen TV with a pretty decent DVD library. The house is backed up against the park, with easy access to either entrance off of Hwy 62. We had a blast in this place and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a modern comfortable convenient home base when visiting Joshua Tree.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your wonderful review! It's great to know you enjoyed skyLark and also that you stayed nice and warm because I know it was below 30 degrees at night over the holidays. I hope you'll visit skyLark again. Happy New Year!

Location

From the Owner

It was an on-going dream for me to have a home in Joshua Tree, since I first visited the location in the late 1980's. I searched for almost two years, and at last found this outstanding property with an existing house that had 'great bones.' Fixed her up and named her 'skyLark.'

Activity and Interests

Music concerts, seasonal festivals, including spring and fall music festivals, art galleries, annual open studios of local artists October
