Skylark, a Hideaway on the Park Border in Panorama Heights

Skylark, a Hideaway on the Park Border in Panorama Heights

Overview

Property Details

Updated: Feb 24, 2015
House, 2 Bedrooms + Sunroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-7)

skyLark is beautifully and comfortably modern, balanced with a brute ruggedness that reflects the surrounding dramatic, boulder-strewn landscape on five acres adjacent to the northern border of Joshua Tree National Park. Each room at skyLark is open and spacious with fine, solid furnishings and fixtures, sleek ceiling fans, and finished concrete floors. skyLark is in a spectacular private setting—a place to peacefully while-away the hours—featuring a large patio with amazing views and gas grill, fully-equipped kitchen, dining room, multiple serene indoor and outdoor living areas, and two bedrooms. Though secluded, skyLark is centrally located with easy access to local natural desert attractions, galleries, eclectic shops, farmers market and grocers, restaurants, night-life, music and seasonal festivals. skyLark easily accommodates up to seven guests, with two bedrooms (one with king bed, the other with queen bed), a sunroom with two twin futons, and a single sleeper-lounge at the foot of the living room's wood-burning stove. skyLark can also sleep an additional guest on the extra-long and sufficiently-wide L-shaped sofa in the post-and-beam sunroom perched above views of hundreds of miles of the desert basin and the twinkling night-lights of the towns of Joshua Tree and 29 Palms. The rear of the house is set against abundant rock formations that lead from the property's five acres into Joshua Tree National Park. All linens and towels are made from organic, sustainable materials, and the household products at skyLark are earth-friendly.

Everything You Could Want

  • 5 of 5
I've been to Joshua Tree before, and this house was leagues beyond where we've stayed previously. It's just lovely. The decor is exactly right -- stylish without being pretentious, comfortable, cozy. But even better are the grounds. We spent most of our time outside, climbing on rocks, summiting ridges to see sunsets, exploring. It's really different from the properties on the main JT road. Feels absolutely like your own private retreat.

Middle of the desert experience

We only had one night to enjoy what Skylark had to offer and I wish it could have been longer. Very cool interior and tonnes of room. The location was great and the boulders surrounding the property create a beautiful landscape. Would love to come back for longer!

Best Joshua Tree experience around

  • 5 of 5
This place is something else. It was beautiful inside. A fireplace with lots of wood, spacious rooms, comfortable seating, beautiful furniture, everything. Very comfortably slept 7 dudes. The fact that this place exists makes me wish I could go back every weekend.

Sure, you come for what's outside, and that was equally as gorgeous. Right in the backyard is Joshua Tree National Park. The house is set at the foot of very rocky terrain that is amazing for hikes. Sunset was insane. Sunrise was equally spectacular. And a bonus for us...a meteor shower on a crisp, clear December night.

Most importantly, Susan was so easy to work with. So caring. I emailed her with so many questions and a few requests before our stay, and she would get back to me right away. Very understanding, very helpful, and extremely friendly. Amazing.

Thank you for this place, Susan.

I will definitely be back. Many more times.

Stargazing and silent night hike was amazing. Climbing the rocks in the backyard was an adventure. Having Joshua Tree National Park close by was a bonus. Clean and comfortable. & Susan was easy to work with and nice to talk to. Highly recommend and may consider staying again! :)

Great getway from LA

  • 4 of 5
Skylark proved to be a great place for a weekend getaway from LA. The location is secluded with direct hiking access to Joshua Tree National Park (great for morning walks), but also a short drive to the shops and restaurants in the town of Joshua Tree. Interior furnishings and artwork are eclectic, fun, and comfortable. Owner is quick to respond to any requests and provides detailed instructions to make the whole reservation process and stay easy and stress free.

Serene modernist retreat in Joshua Tree

  • 5 of 5
A really wonderful house that's more spacious than it looks in the photos and decorated with a quirky modernist sensibility. We were thrilled when we walked in the door. Everything was clean and in order--and there was plenty of firewood for the fireplace. It's an incredibly welcoming house.
Spare and serene, it could sleep six easily if one couple slept on the pull down sofa in front of the fireplace. We were four, and never felt crowded. We tossed a coin to decide who got which bedroom--one is as large as a studio apartment, the other much smaller.
The kitchen is big and has a gas stove and a patio just in front for outside dining. Every detail is right. I felt like I was staying in a friend's house, not a rental. A terrific spot for exploring Joshua Tree park and Yucca Valley.
Not to miss: the Saturday morning farmers market in Joshua Tree--and freshly roasted coffee beans from Joshua Tree Coffee Company.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the stellar review! You were kind to let me know that you enjoyed the skyLark experience. One of the huge perks of owning skyLark is knowing when I have happy guests.

All the best to you, and please visit us again. Susan

Location

From the Owner

It was an on-going dream for me to have a home in Joshua Tree, since I first visited the location in the late 1980's. I searched for almost two years, and at last found this outstanding property with an existing house that had 'great bones.' Fixed her up and named her 'skyLark.'

Activity and Interests

Music concerts, seasonal festivals, including spring and fall music festivals, art galleries, annual open studios of local artists October
