About this property

Air-Conditioned Year-Round Lakeshore Cabin

Come to beautiful Lake Vermilion and enjoy one of the ten most beautiful lakes in the world! There are over 290 miles of shoreline, mostly glacial rock with stately evergreens, and 365 unique islands on this pristine northern Minnesota lake. In the summer and fall you can explore the lake on our pontoon boat, fishing boat, row boat, or kayaks (or rent a canoe or jet skies). World-class golf is available at 3 courses within 25 miles of the cabin (The Quarry, The Legends, and Wilderness). In the winter months, the lake is perfect for snow shoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling or ice-fishing, and downhill skiing at Giants Ridge is only 30 minutes away.

Our cabin is right next to miles of state park so the bay is quiet and undeveloped; we share it with loons and hummingbirds. The cabin sits on a rise overlooking Big Bay and Ely Island. The vista looking east takes in several smaller islands. McKinley Park, with its sandy beach, boat launch, and playground, is less than a mile down the road. The popular Northwood's town of Ely is just 20 minutes away. This cabin is perfectly situated for a quiet romantic getaway, a family retreat, or a weekend with friends.

The cabin was built around 1970 and was remodeled in 2000; air conditioning was installed in 2015. The kitchen is new and the main living area is vaulted to provide a more panoramic view of the lake. There is a deck attached to the cabin which overlooks the lake, and a larger deck sitting right over the water. We have a wood-burning fireplace in the main living area and a gas fireplace in the walkout level, as well as a fire pit outside. There is a beautiful spot for a hammock and a side yard perfect for yard games.

Great family spot!
We had a great fall trip here! Perfect location on Lake Vermillion with lots of opportunities to catch fish on the lake. Cabin had a very well stocked kitchen and the cherry on top was having firewood available to use in the fireplace inside and the fire pit outside as well. Highly recommend!

Perfect!
This cabin/house was exactly what we were looking for so we could experience Lake Vermillion for the first time. Amenities were plentiful with an extensive library selection along with games and puzzles. The deck over looking the water was ideal. Beds pillows and kitchen supplies were abundant. Neat clean accommodations and everything was as we expected. I would recommend staying here.

Great fall getaway
Beautiful spot! Two families with small children stayed here. The only part that we didn’t live was that we needed to dispose of our own garbage at the dump and we needed to bring drinking water. It did make us more thoughtful about our waste though! We used the kayaks and they provided lots of firewood for bonfires. They also provided a highchair, pack n play and a crib if needed. The soudan mine park is very close and made for a nice close hike.

Kaarin has been coming to Lake Vermilion for over 30 years. We bought this cabin from her parents in 2020 and just love it! Over the years, we have had family reunions, quiet getaways, and weekends with friends. The cabin is perfect for everyone. One of our daughters prefers to swim off the dock, run on the trials, kayak, ride the pontoon and camp. Our other daughter loves to read so she settles on the couch by the fireplace or on the deck with her book. Our nephew loves to feed the deer, the ducks and the birds, take boat rides, and go to McKinley Park. By early evening, we all sit on the deck for appetizers, drinks and stories before dinner. By the end of the day, we quiet down with Scrabble, card games or a good book.

Why they chose this property
