About the Owner

We moved to Big Bear in 1999 having always rented a small cabin to stay in at Christmas. We learned a lot about what makes a great rental and have tried to incorporate it into this one.

This gem is so great that we offered to buy it!

  • 5 of 5
What a lovely home for a getaway to Big Bear. I am a little snobby when it comes to hotels and VRBO rentals. I have nothing but wonderful things to say...the kitchen is ready for any gourmet. We loved the island, and used it all of the time. Our dog, Maddie, loved lounging on the deck and watching life go slowly by. Both beds were wonderfully cozy and comfy, and the sectional and movie selection just added to the ambiance. There are endless walking options nearby, and stargazing in the evening was just amazing. Looking forward to our return in May.

Thanks, Karen & Tim, for sharing your incredible home.

Great cabin!

  • 5 of 5
What a great cabin! It is very close to the lake. The neighborhood is so nice. It is an established and a quite neighborhood. It is fun to walk around and look at all the beautiful cabins among all the trees. You feel like you are away from the crowds and the noise, but the village is really just a 5 min drive away and there are lot of restaurants and shops within a short driving distance. On the inside, the cabin is very clean and beautifully decorated. All the log walls inside make you feel like you are in a true cabin but at the same time all the modern conveniences are there. The kitchen is a cook's dream. There is a lot of space in the kitchen and around the island, making it perfect for cooking and at the same time enjoying the company. Very dog friendly. The dog run is fully fenced and can be accessed right from the patio. It was so nice not have to put our dog on a leash and take her outside. Instead, we would let her out to the patio and she would just go to the dog run, do her thing and come back inside through the patio. Very convenient! The beds in the cabin are the most comfortable we ever slept on in a rental or a hotel. We will be back! (:

Most Wonderful Getaway

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I hadn't had a vacation in 4 years and we're so happy we found this perfect cabin where we could take our dog. The cabin is so beautiful, has everything you need. It is so quiet and relaxing. There was a nice toy for our dog and dog treats, which is such a nice touch. A welcome package with all the information you need. It was a quick little drive to the north side of the lake for fishing. A quick little drive into town for the market and for shops or restaurants. It was a quiet little neighborhood where we could take our daily walks with our dog, which was wonderful. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful time and the most beautiful, comfortable welcoming cabin.

A perfect quick getaway

  • 5 of 5
This was the perfect getaway for our family of three and a dog from Cerritos about two hours away. We stayed three nights over Easter. The area is far enough away from town to make it peaceful, yet just a short drive to groceries or restaurants.
Upon arrival we were greeted with a envelope with our names printed on it full of information about the cabin and the local area. Our dog had a new toy waiting for her from Noodles the owners dog, nice touch. The home is nicely decorated with mountain décor and the most cushioned carpet I have ever walked on. The couch is a large sectional big enough for six people. We did not use the sleeper sofa. A foosball table was in the living room, and the largest selection of DVD movies I have ever seen. A big picture window looks out of the living room towards the lake. I could just envision watching an electrical storm from the couch with the lights off. (we had great weather, no storm) The dining room had a very large table. The kitchen, dining and living room are all open concept so it is easy to visit with each other or watch TV while cooking.
The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed including hot cocoa, microwave popcorn, and dog treats another nice touch. Several different plate sets and drink ware to chose from. Microwave, dishwasher, stove, oven, gas grill on the deck the list goes on.
The bedrooms were cozy and the bedding was the most comfortable bed I have slept on in a vacation rental. There were plenty of extra blankets and pillows to choose from.
One bathroom with a large shower and extra towels. Do bring your own toiletries.
The back deck was large with a nice table and chairs, we ate most of our meals outside. Access to a fenced in dog run from deck. You could see a sliver of the lake through the trees off the deck. The lake was very low due to drought, so on a normal year we may have been able to see more water. The lake is walking distance, but you do need a car to get around the city. This cabin is small, but every space is maximized to give you all the comforts you need. While we were in Big Bear we hiked, took drives on public dirt roads with our jeep and visited the dog friendly Farmers Market. We will be back.
We will recommend this rental to our friends and family.

Best cabin yet!

  • 5 of 5
This was our third year in a row visiting Big Bear and our third cabin rental through VRBO. We had some luck with the other cabins we rented but they weren't a perfect fit for our family so we looked at areas a little further from The Village. The cabin isn't far at all from things (maybe 10 minutes from The Village) and the neighborhood was very nice and quiet.

The Kitchen: It has been recently updated which made it stand out from the other cabins we had rented before. It was great for cooking in! Having room to prep, newer appliances and quality cookware was very nice to have and a clear departure from our previous experiences. The only thing we were missing was a muffin pan but we made due without it, they had everything else including Tupperware for your leftovers!

The Rooms: My wife and I used the one with the TV. The bed took a little getting used to as we had never slept on memory foam before but it was only a topper and not a full mattress. Our only complaint about that room was the window above the bed only had a half curtain which let in all the morning light and the sun rises on that side of the cabin. We were able to rig up a couple of pillows to cut down the light but it would have been nice if they had a full curtain option. The other room had less light and we ended up setting up our toddler son in there so he could sleep easier. There was plenty of space for him. The living room was nice and the fireplace was easy to use. The bonus of a large DVD collection and a foosball table kept us entertained throughout our week stay. The bathroom was very nice and if I had read the description clearly I would have noticed that it was only a shower, no tub. This wasn't necessarily a deal breaker but with a toddler it proved difficult to navigate and ultimately he was not a fan. This would be the ONLY reason we would not come back and stay here again.

Pets: The cabin is dog friendly and they have a nice dog run on the side of the house and bowls for them as well. Our only issue with this was it didn't appear the carpeted areas were vacuumed very well as there was a lot of dog hair in the carpets. We tried to vacuum it up ourselves but the Dyson didn't appear to be working correctly and was missing a piece which may be the problem. Hopefully the owner can address this and it will be a non-issue in the future.

Overall this cabin was great and we recommend it anyone looking for an upgraded cabin at affordable rates in a quiet part of town.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the feedback. We strive to have the cabin be truly special, clean and full of the comforts that make a trip extraordinary. We always include a guest feedback sheet so that we can address anything that isn't just right.

The cabin was re carpeted just about a month ago so we are surprised about dog hair in the carpet but will check to see if the Dyson vacuum needs repair or replacement.

Thank you again for the nice comments and suggestions. We will work to resolve anything that was less than perfect.

We look forward to your next visit.

Best Wishes,
Karen Lavrouhin

Feels Like Home

  • 5 of 5
This cabin is perfect: quiet, clean, tastefully decorated, intelligently furnished. Kitchen has everything you would expect in your own home, including cookie sheet! The view is gorgeous. Short stroll to the marina for water activities, and yet a very secluded, private feel. If out in the heat of day, try renting a pontoon boat that provides shade while you explore the lake. Perfect experience. Go out early in the day or later in the afternoon for kayaking, canoeing, and other activities. If you feel a need to re-energize, trying throwing yourself into the water. Wow! The neighborhood is wonderful to take walks in (we stayed in mid-June). Streets are lined with tall pine trees, and birds and chipmunks punctuate your walk. I imagine it also would be perfect for biking in the neighborhood, and I would bring a bike next time. New wooden benches and table are out on the deck, much nicer than what is shown in the pictures. We enjoyed a great BBQ lunch with friends out there. We drove up several times to hike and only had to drive a few twists and turns before we were well on our way up the mountain towards our favorite trails. Champion Lodge Pole Pine trail is one of our favorites. Leave early in the morning and hike in the cool fresh air. We will definitely stay here again next time we visit Big Bear. I will recommend this cabin to all my friends.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much!
It is so wonderful to know that guests are having the experience we strive for.
Our goal for the cabin is for our guests to feel like they are in a magical home away from home with the comforts they desire. We have over time added the things we would want if we were visiting this mountain paradise with an emphasis on delivering the feeling of being in the mountains...somewhere truly special.

From the Owner

We always walked our dog on this street and were waiting for a cabin to come available, thinking it was just the perfect place for a great vacation rental. We completely remodeled it with all new dual glazed windows & insulation, wiring, plumbing, tankless water heater, kitchen, siding, and paved parking.

From the Owner

The proximity to the lake is a big plus, and the gently sloping back yard and street-to-street lot make for great sledding in the winter.
