Charming bungalow in Wallingford - one of Seattle's best urban neighborhoods, nestled between Fremont and the University District. The house is in a safe and quiet but vibrant neighborhood and is only a 10-minute drive to downtown locations such as Pike's Place Market, the Space Needle, several museums, Capitol Hill, Key Arena, both Safeco and Qwest/Century Link fields, and to downtown ferries to Bainbridge Island or the Clipper to Victoria. It is only minutes away from the University of Washington, Seattle Pacific University, and the zoo. Bus service is within blocks. Easy on-street parking.
The house is in a great walking neighborhood (WALKING SCORE 97/100) - within walking distance of many restaurants and cafes, two movie theaters, a grocery store, banks, shops, and bars. Walk down the hill to the south to Gas Works Park on the northern shore of Lake Union with incredible views of downtown Seattle and the Space Needle. Or walk north to Green Lake, one of the most popular parks in the city with rental boats, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, a city 9-hole golf course, community swimming pool, and a 3-mile walking trail around the lake. There are two wonderful playgrounds less than six blocks away, and a smaller one a half block away. There are two wading pools for young children: one about 5 blocks to the south and one at Green Lake.
The house was built in 1916 - it has a very private fenced-in backyard patio, a nice front porch with room for two, a soaking tub in the master bath, and a large living room. Hardwood floors throughout the home and a new gas fireplace in the living room. All on one floor. Two bedrooms contain queen beds with a hide-a-bed in the living room that can accommodate two additional guests. For 'unrelated' friends, a third, very small bedroom with a double bed is available for $50 extra per night (on the same floor). Let me know if you want this option. An ideal home for two couples to share or a family in town for a wedding, birth, graduation, vacations, or reunions. The limit of guests for the house remains at 6 total.

A portable crib is available upon request.
The house has just about everything you'll need in kitchen supplies and dishware, linens, and I've just upgraded to 800 TC Egyptian cotton sheets in the three bedrooms.
The Skansonia, a popular wedding venue, is just down the street. (I had my wedding there in 2011.)
As I know plans change, I allow refunds up to 30 days before the occupancy period. For that reason, I have a waiting list for last minute cancellations. If the time period is listed on the calendar is 'unavailable,' you can request to be placed on the waiting list.

What I have to say about MY GUESTS: I started renting out my home on VRBO in 2009 and I have had hundreds of wonderful guests stay at the Bungalow. It has turned out to be so much fun being able to contribute to the special times in people's lives: graduations, weddings, new grandchildren, and reunions. I always enjoy meeting my guests whenever possible while remaining respectful of their privacy. They have consistently returned the favor by being respectful of the Bungalow. It continues to be a great partnership.
A NOTE ABOUT THE RATES:
I have two options: I can lock the third bedroom and charge less for smaller groups (two couples, small family, etc.) who don't need the 3rd bedroom. But many people want all 3 bedrooms. This website can accommodate this '3-bedroom' option in the rates, but I need to modify your request. If you want to book online and book 3 bedrooms, please tell me in the email and I'll alter the payment request.
So the rates are as follows in the summer:
2-BEDROOMS - $285/night; $1850/wk
3-BEDROOMS - $335/night; $2150/wk

Photo at left is just before a snowmachine ride on Vatnajokul Glacier in Iceland, summer 2009. I started renting out my home that first summer, then moved to a condo downtown near the Space Needle and began to rent out the home full time. In 2010 we went to Buenos Aires, then to Turkey and Amsterdam (stayed on houseboat through VRBO) in 2011. We spent New Year's Eve 2012 in a VRBO apartment in the heart of Paris followed by a winter weekend in Iceland.
Travel Update: In October 2013 we took my 91-year old mother-in-law on her first trip to Israel. We had a fabulous time. Now, August 2014, we've just returned from a trip up and down the coast of Maine.
I lived in this house for about 18 years. It is a wonderful home in a fun, vibrant yet safe neighborhood. Even though we're just 10 minutes from the downtown core, the sought-after neighborhood of Wallingford feels like a small town. The home was built in 1916.
I grew up in Rhode Island and the Bay Area, then spent 14 years in Alaska, finally landing here in Seattle, the perfect combination of city, salt water, and mountains.

My husband, grown son and I stayed in the bungalow for 5 nights in May and we were very happy with the accomodations. The house is cozy and charming and had everything we needed. The neighborhood is wonderful with many restaurants, shops, grocery, etc. within easy walking distance. We especially loved the beautiful backyard and enjoyed having friends over to sit outside and have appetizers before walking to a nearby restaurant for dinner. Bridget was very good about checking with us to make sure we knew how to operate everything and to see that we had every comfort. Highly recommended!

Great place in a great neighborhood
Definitely not worth what we paid for
The day after they arrived, I stopped by and asked if everything was okay, and these guests assured me everything was great. (I don't always get to meet my guests - I try and respect their privacy and sometimes our schedules don't align, but I always enjoy meeting guests whenever possible.) That was in August 2014. Then I received an email from them a few days after their stay containing some of the same complaints they've stated here. I was surprised since they had not hinted at any problems before, but I thought that was the end of it. They didn’t come out and ask for a refund, but they did say they felt they had over paid. I didn’t give a refund. Now, five months later I get this review, my first and only unfavorable one.
After 6 years in this business of renting out my former home to hundreds of guests, I've met the most wonderful people and never had a problem or complaint. Until this guest.
I can assure you, the home is as described by me and the 50 previous guest reviewers including several from the summer of 2014. I don’t know what triggered this complaint five months later (January 2015) about the stay last August. Ah well, such is life.

“The best part about this house is the neighborhood. There are two major roadways into downtown, plus numerous side streets (and three more bridges). But in the neighborhood, great restaurants are within walking distance: Tilth, Musashis, Eva's, Kisaku, Julias, Bizarros, Joule, Blue Star Pub, Tutta Bella, Smash Wine Bar, Tangletown Pub, several Thai places and too many other restaurants and coffee houses to list. And you are close to other great neighborhoods like Fremont, Ballard, Phinney Ridge, Green Lake, University District and Eastlake.”
