Fabulous Views of Valley Half Mile from Downtown Guerneville

Property Details

Updated: May 22, 2015
Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Sunset Manor of Guerneville is located in the hills ½ mile east of Guerneville, within walking distance of downtown and the Russian River. It has its own outside entrance, two bedrooms with queen beds, kitchen, and living/dining room, all overlooking spectacular views of the hills above Guerneville.

The building is situated on the slope of the hill below Sunset Avenue itself, on the north side of the street. The guest space is on the lower level, on the north side of the building - away from the street, thereby a affording significant level of privacy and quiet.

The living/dining room is 14' x 19' with a wood-burning fireplace and a large HDTV with Comcast cable service. A big picture window provides a view of the hills, and a glass door leads to a deck with table and chairs for outside dining and a side yard. There is also a large back yard for your dog (the property is 1/5 acre).

Each bedroom has a queen-size bed and a TV. The views from the bedroom windows are stunning - it is a treat to wake up to the sun rising and highlighting the trees! These windows are located significantly above the neighboring homes and are thus afforded a substantial privacy.

Your hosts live above this unit and are available for your convenience as needed - and we promise to respect your privacy!

Guerneville, an unincorporated town of about 2500, is about halfway between Santa Rosa and the Pacific Ocean - approximately ½ hour either way - on the right (north) bank of the Russian River.

Downtown Guerneville is large (compared to, say, Rio Nido) - about 4 blocks square. There is a 24/7 Safeway (looks like every other Safeway, but the people are friendly locals). There are good restaurants nearby - a good resource is the local chamber of commerce.

There are lots of fun things to do in the area - varying from kayaking on the river to theater and the local night spots. Northwood Golf Course is about 3 miles west, just east of Monte Rio.

Armstrong Woods State Park is just 2½ miles away, with nature trails, picnic facilities, and horseback riding. There are at least eight wineries with tasting rooms between here and Santa Rosa.

A great ride is west on highway 116 to Jenner, and then south on Route 1 (Coast Highway) to Tomales Bay and our favorite oyster houses.

This is a peaceful place to stay!

A great week-long stay

  • 5 of 5
I rented this with the idea of staying in town and enjoying my daughter's wedding. The apartment had everything we needed (dishes, glassware, pots and pans, towels) and the accommodations were terrific. Everything is new and fresh. I had my family (five brothers and wives and other relatives) meet there one evening before the wedding and we had plenty of room to meet, eat, chat, laugh and had a wonderful time. We could easily walk down to the Coffee Bazaar for early morning coffee and stroll around town to see what was in the shops. There is a Safeway grocery store in town if you are staying/cooking in. I've eaten at a couple of restaurants in town and they are fine. Don't plan on real "upscale" dining--you won't find much of that in Guerneville. The beach in town on the Russian River is a nice place to cool off if you are interested. Kayak rentals are available in the area and it looked like lots of people took advantage of that although I didn't have time to do so. There are MANY wineries in the area and the ocean beaches aren't far away. Northwood Golf Club is an excellent course in the redwoods of Monte Rio just west of Guerneville. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone and will stay again when I visit my daughter in the future.

Owner's Response: We've enjoyed dining at Applewood Inn - it's 1/2 mile down Highway 116, traveling toward Forestville.

Excellent place for weekend gateway

We had Excellent time at Sunset Manor. The place is amazing for what you pay. It's close to Downtown (we walked to downtown many times), it's well furnished and well maintained. There are video games, computers, TVs in every room and small workout room. I would rent it again in future without any doubt.

Friendly Convenient Affordable

We had a wonderful, relaxing four night stay at Sunset Manor. Perfect location for the kind of no frills, laid back vacation we were looking forward to. My daughter and her boyfriend have high stress jobs in the city and we wanted them to be able to get away from it all and just enjoy the peace and quiet of Sonoma. Sunset Manor was comfortable, quiet and had everything we needed to feel right at home. The reasonable price fit our budget and we were able to save even a little more by having a few meals at the Manor! We picked up excellent pastries and bread at Raymond’s and Wild Oats Bakery then used the toaster, stocked the fridge with juice and brewed the coffee supplied by Ben and Bill to start our days. We also brought back food from the Taco Truck in front of Safeway for a few inexpensive meals. The location of Sunset Manor is absolutely perfect: five minutes from Armstrong Park and the gorgeous trails through redwoods, five minutes from our favorite winery, a short drive to Goat’s Head Beach and so many great day trips. After exploring all day it was so relaxing to come back and settle in for one of the movies from Ben’s extensive collection. Ben and Bill were excellent hosts. They gave us a walk-through so we knew where everything was and then let us have our privacy but assured us they were there if we needed anything.

Owner's Response: Sunset manor is a bunch of work for us. We clean thoroughly after every tenant with lots of laundry. It's reviews like this that really make the experience not just worth the effort, but fun! We enjoy the travelers who stay with us! We have very little contact with them after they check in, but being aware that they are enjoying their time in Guerneville and hearing them on the deck having fun together makes all the difference in providing us as hosts with a great experience.

Great Location!

We had a great stay at Sunset Manor! Bill and Ben were great hosts and are there to help you if you need it, but are very respectful of your privacy. We had some friends over who lived in the area, and they were more than happy to welcome them, tell them where to park, and were happy to have us enjoy their space in a fun way. The place is clean and has everything you need for your stay. The views are beautiful, too!

Owner's Response: Elizabeth and her family were among over two hundred wonderful tenants that we've been privileged to host in the past five years!

Great place near Guerneville downtown

Lovely place, with plenty of room (we were two couples). Lots of nice amenities provided as well (tv, video games, computers, wifi).

Walk-able to downtown Guerneville, though it is an uphill hike on the way back to the house.

Relaxing Weekend

  • 5 of 5
My family and I plus our two small dogs stayed here for the weekend to celebrate my parents anniversary. It happened to be pouring the entire weekend but we still had a nice time. We ate at the nearby Applewood Inn and it was delicious (5 min drive). The town was just down the hill and we also drove to Korbel (less than 10 min drive). The unit was very clean and well appointed. There were televisions in every room, two computers, WIFI, play station, books, movies, cards, a workout machine, washing machine, dishes, silverware, and more. I guess my only suggestion would be to eventually put in wood/laminate floors since it is a very dog friendly place.

The hosts were very helpful and Ben even came down in the late evening after we came back from dinner to help us with the TVs. We had a really great and relaxing experience.

Owner's Response: Your party is just one more reason why we think this is a fun business! We have just this one unit, and living upstairs enjoy your presence. You are not the first to suggest a change in flooring - thank you for the comment.
