Herrington Lake Kentucky

Perfect for large families

  • 5 of 5
This house was a great mid-way point for our NC/KY family to meet up for our annual mini-reunion. We had up to 7 adults and 5 children at any given time, and plenty of space to house us; stuck the kids downstairs, adults upstairs (helped with noise control from the kiddos). We had meals together every breakfast and dinner at the really large dining room table that had plenty of space for all 12 of us and all the serving dishes. Didn't take long to feel at home. Fantastic internet speeds; cell/data signals were better for AT&T users than Sprint. We came in expecting a rainy week (boo), and were able to hook up our game consoles for the kids, and stream netflix on our devices without interruption (just don't forget cables as the nearest GameStop is 30 minutes away! oops). Huge laundry room, games/book shelf, kids toys, etc. Water pressure was fantastic. Water can get HOT, so beware with bathing children... but perfect for dishes. The fire pit was our favorite spot. There was plenty of wood hanging around from recent tree removals, and we covered what we could so it stayed dry through our rain spells. Plenty of space for the family around the fire, with benches and lawn chairs. We never had to grab our camping chairs from the van. Due to the excessive rain, we didn't get to use the dock until the last day, but it had perfect access to the water with steps going down the steepest part of the hill. As other reviews state, the hill is very steep, so make sure the family brings good shoes. (Note to self, don't go walking down a steep hill wearing flip flops shortly after raining, you'll hurt your bum. hah.). Our 88 year old Grandaddy went up and down the hill a few times, but called it quits later in the week. The location is nice and quiet. At night we heard some coyotes teaching their young to howl across the lake. Owls at night. Cow's on a neighboring hill lightly mooing during the day. Daffodils blooming all around the house made for a perfect Easter. With perfect weather, open the front window and deck doors for a fantastic fresh breeze. Sat out on the deck for peace and quiet often when the family was loud. Due to the weather, we never used the outdoor gas/charcoal grills, but both were stocked. The best part of the entire trip was the responsiveness of the owners. Very easy to work with, available via phone and email (responsive!). Very much worth the cost of the rental. Will definitely consider for next year!!

great place, lots of room, excellent location

We really loved staying here. The house was clean, large, and very accommodating for our group. The price was very reasonable and working with Jennifer was fun. She was quite responsive, and very attentive to any needs we had. I particularly liked this house for our young children, because even though we had a lot of rain, and the kids had to stay inside sometimes, there was plenty of space for them to be active. I would stay here again in a minute. I might try to come during a warmer time, however, so as to get the full enjoyment of the lake. Thanks to the Tibbetts!

Great Vacation Rental on Herrington Lake

  • 5 of 5
The house was very clean, well stocked and had plenty of room for our family of 10. The huge kitchen made it very easy for us to have great meal times. The dock was a perfect base for our pontoon and since it is in a no wake branch of the lake we were able to have a great time swimming. The only negative is the steep climb down and up from the house to the dock. The steps help on the lower part, but it was a little tough for us older vacationers to make several trips up and down each day. We certainly would consider this rental again next year, especially if the owner has a chance to improve the walkway down to the lake!!!

Terrific for a family vaction.

Jennifer was very good about answering questions we had before we arrived, so our arrival was uneventful, except we passed the house. The house sits below street level, so we did not see the driveway at first. It is a semi-circular drive that can fit five vehicles.

The house is very nice, with a huge kitchen table that we were all able to sit around at meal time. There was plenty of counter space and fully stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. The full kitchen downstairs came in handy when we fixed breakfast; bacon and eggs upstairs and pancakes downstairs. The living room is also spacious, the grandkids really enjoyed the chess board table. The bedrooms were as nice as advertised, and while the televisions were nice, we kept ourselves busy enough that we didn’t really use them. We were concerned about there being only two bathrooms, but it did not present a problem.

The deck was very nice, with a great view. It was unusually cool when we were there, so we made good use of the fire pit, building a fire and sitting around it while enjoying s’mores.

The hill to the fire pit and the steps is very steep and you need to be careful walking up and down. The new steps have been extended to the dock, making it easy to reach. It helps to zig-zag up and down the hill.

We rented a pontoon boat from Chimney Rock and spent the day swimming from it in the lake. There was very little boat traffic lake and much of the lake is a no wake zone, so we felt very safe having the kids in the water. We went to Old Fort Harrod another day. The volunteers were very informative about what frontier life was like in Kentucky during the early days of our country. We didn’t have time to visit Shaker Village, but took the riverboat ride, which was very interesting

Overall, it was a very nice family vacation that ended all too soon.

Relaxing and Amazing Vacation Rental!!

  • 5 of 5
From the very beginning, the communication was terrific. Jennifer is one class act and was very responsive to all my crazy questions. It really makes the planning process a lot more easier when you have someone like Jennifer providing you the information. She explained everything I asked in detail and I did not have any "surprises" once I got to the vacation home.

When looking for rentals, I do like to read the reviews, as it provides additional information to me about a property.

When we got there, there was a mildly steep hill to the U-shaped driveway. I must agree with others, that the pictures don't do this home justice. Once we opened the door, "Wow" . Place is very spacious. Wonderfully big kitchen and fully stocked. The place was VERY clean and welcoming.

The deck with the lighted roping was awesome. Very enjoyable and outstanding view. We did not utilize the fire pit, but it looked great.

At first, the hill down to the dock seemed daunting to us. However, once you realize that it's a home on a lake, pretty much they are all elevated above the dock/water. You will want to wear shoes when walking to the dock. When coming up, you will want to zig-zag, as it is a lot easier to come up the hill.

The dock was big and accomodating. There is no shade down there, however, so we brought a shade canopy and it worked perfectly. Lake is amazingly clean and wonderful for swimming. The men were not too successful with fishing until the last day. My 5 year old caught lots of small fish everyday , which made him very happy. Hint: You will want to use worms and drop your line straight down from the dock, then bring up slowly. That's when they started catching them.

Another huge plus was we were able to bring our 2 German Shorthaired pointers dogs, who are part of our family.

All and all, it was an outstanding vacation and just a great experience. Normally, we try to go somewhere different every year. That being said, I would return to this place in a heartbeat.

Thank you Jennifer!!!
