Ocean Front House, 2 Bdrm/2 Bath + Ohana Room, Sleeps 4-6. Great outdoor spaces.

Honu Hale Lanikai (Honu means turtle, Hale means house) is a simple and comfortable two bedroom oceanfront vacation home in beautiful Lanikai on the island of Oahu. It has one bedroom/one bath in the main house and a large private bedroom and bath upstairs, which we call the Dolphin Suite. It can accommodate up to 6 people--2 each in the bedrooms and 2 on the queen futon bed in the living room.

See our YouTube video by clicking on the Video tab near the top of this page.

Honu Hale Lanikai is located exactly in front of the Mokulua Islands, providing endless hours of outstanding views from both bedrooms as well as the living room, dining room, backyard, side deck and even the upstairs bathroom. Easy access (a short stairway down to the ocean) means you can swim, snorkel, kayak, fish, etc. right from your yard. Your days are filled with the sounds of waves, trade winds blowing through the coconut trees and picturesque sailboats, kayakers and outrigger canoes going by. Lanikai provides a fun and healthy lifestyle in a friendly beach community. It's perfect for families as well as couples wanting a relaxed Hawaiian style home environment away from the busy and crowded resort areas.

Mahalo, Mahalo, Mahalo!

We came to this place for the wedding of our daughter, sister, and friend. It was perfect that we were all able to stay together in this beautiful house on the water. This excellent setting with the view of the 2 little islands, with the outriggers, kayakers, boaters and swimmers brought back the memories of the beautiful place that brought us all together, Palau, and that made us all family. ... We so enjoyed our early morning swims with the gorgeous sunrises. The colors from the sunsets were amazing. The stargazing incredible. All the neighbors were so kind and friendly. Most of all we enjoyed our daughter's, sisters's and friend's wedding that was a dream come true for us all. We made so may more beautiful memories here to share with one another and friends when we meet again.

Barbara & Chuck H. & Friends

Thank you so very much for the wonderful stay in your beautiful home. We had such a relaxing vacation here. The view is incredible and we loved the privacy! Our kids will never forget this experience, nor will we! Everything was just perfect--couldn't ask for a more accommodating home away from home.

Mahalo -- Nipp, Tracie, Perry, & Chloe, Peachtree City, GA

Each day a coconut floats in from 'unknown' islands. Watching crabs (from a safe spot) walk along. Watching many bird or geckos, that's what I did.

Kevin Ross, age 10

Thanks for hosting our vacation! We loved the sunrises, Air Chair (we bought one for back home), hammock and the Internet for researching Luau times, etc. We really liked the upstairs. We loved taking pictures of the 2 islands and playing soccer in the backyard with a beach ball. The geckos were great and swaying palm trees were perfect in our pictures.

We hope to come back soon! The Ross/Wingavaer families

Incredible View, Awesome House, Perfect Location!

  • 5 of 5
I was fortunate to be able to stay at Honu Hale Lanikai with my Mother and 2 of her good friends for 2 weeks. I'm their designated driver...it's a dirty job but someone's go to do it! A few years back we stayed in Kailua and discovered Lanikai and we have been hooked ever since! Our family owns a cottage on a tiny island in The Bahamas and we know great beaches and Lanikai is among the BEST! So to be able to stay right there with that gorgeous water and the Mokes as our view was absolutely incredible!

The house is extremely well appointed and was very clean. It's amazing how many extras there are: beach chairs, boogie boards, noodles, outdoor furniture, plenty of extra towels (including beach towels) and sheets, everything for the kitchen even a salad spinner! We love to cook and a well stocked kitchen is so greatly appreciated. There is no dishwasher (not a worry at all for us!) but there is a washer and dryer. The photos of the house are very accurate and as far as the location description the only 'problem' is that the stairs down to the water seem to have deteriorated since the photo was taken. They are not easy to climb (very rough and slippery) so to gain access to the water you have to walk to the other side of the Paul Mitchell estate or 2 houses down the other way. Definitely NOT a big deal! Speaking of the Paul Mitchell estate, it is gorgeous and according to their website it rents for $7200-9300.00 per night and Honu Hale Lanikai has the exact same view!

To access the beach from the house, you can walk (it's about 1/4 mile) or drive there and park. Or you can do what I did a few times and walk or swim in the water, maybe you'll see a turtle! Kailua has 3 supermarkets, a Whole Foods and a Sunday morning Farmers Market, so it's very easy to get great produce. We got lucky a few times buying fresh fish along the way to Haleiwa, look for signs along the Kamehameha Hwy. Getting to Honolulu on the Pali is fast and easy. We went to the Academy of Arts that has a couple of wonderful exhibits, Art Deco in Hawaii and Natural Unnatural Supernatural. Lunch there is very good. Also we had lunch at the Hao Tree at the New Otani in Waikiki and it is awesome! The salmon eggs benedict was incredible.

We had an absolutely fabulous time. If you are considering a stay on Oahu, look no further. Honu Hale Lanikai is perfect!

Mahalo John for opening up your lovely home to us, we can't wait to come back.

I spent hours on this site researching the perfect holiday destination on Oahu. This was our first time using VRBO properties and we certainly hit the Jack Pot finding Honu Hale!
This was the most relaxing holiday ever in a homely character beach cottage located in the most private and stunning location.
Every vista on the property inside and out looks across to the Mokalua Islands, surrounded by crystal tourquoise seas! The sound of the waves lapping up on the sea wall combined with great weather and the balmy sea breeze puts you into relax mode as soon as you arrive here.
The home feels well loved and is very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked, the ice maker was an added bonus as is all the neat crockery, linen, games, reading materials(which gives you an excellent insight of where to visit, except once you arrive here you don't want to go very far at all!) ,BBQ,hammock, loungers, lanai area, you are spoilt for choice or you can simply sit on the sea wall and watch the turtles swim by.We were all so excited to get the opportunity to feed and swim with these amazing creatures and all on our front doorstep!

Four of us shared the house and we loved being together as well as having our own space which is easy to have at Honu Hale. The Dolphin Suite is a self contained large studio and the pictures don't do justice to how it really looks and feels with a huge comfortable bed, soft carpeting, your own TV and music system if you require it!and lots of space, divine views! We slept with the blinds open to be greeted by the sun rise every morning before going down for our morning swim!
Our highlights were kayaking across to the islands and along the coastline, walking down to the Kalapawai cafe for our morning coffee, eating in as the Whole Food supermarket in Kaluia is excellent for organic produce.Eating out strongly recommend Buzz's just down the road as well as at the Grove restaurant/cafe in Kaluia.
John the owner was very accomodating and easy going as he kindly gave us a later departure time which we appreciated as we had a night flight back to NZ.,Thank you John and Roz for a truely wonderful holiday property and sharing this special place with us.It goes without saying we want to return.Aloha, Mahalo and give my love to the gorgeous Honu Hale turtles!!

Lanikai Love

  • 5 of 5
This is by far the best house in Lanikai if you want to wake up to a daily gorgeous sunrise directly in front of the Mokes, walk to Lanikai (and Kailua) beaches, have a great 3 mile walk around the neighborhood loop and just generally relax. The house is stocked with everything you need in the kitchen, there are plenty of places to relax both outside and inside, the neighbors are sweet and the owners are very responsive and nice.

The back yard is perfect for relaxing or for dining outside. The outside shower is great for rinsing off after spending hours in the ocean; which we did every single day. There are several friendly sea turtles who come by daily, which we swam with and affectionately named Sophie (the smaller one) and Henri (French pronunciation) The neighborhood is generally quiet and we spent hours at night in the back yard or on walks, staring at the clouds and stars.

Whole Foods and other stores are just a 5 minute drive away, and Buzz's Steakhouse is the best place to walk or drive to for lunch. Sit at the bar and order the fish sandwich and a Mai Tai...the best!

We will definitely stay there again and look forward to it.

Paradise Out Your Back Door

  • 5 of 5
We loved our week at the Hono Hale Lanikai house! Wake up to beautiful sunrises over the Mokulua Islands and swim with sea turtles right in front of the house. Lanikai is a wonderful place to stay on Oahu and Hono Hale Lanikai makes it hard to leave. We rented paddle boards and kayaks from a local shop, had them delivered to the house and began and ended each day paddling or swimming to "The Mokes", going to Lanikai beach or over to Kailua beach park and up to Buzz's restaurant. We hiked to Pill Box twice to watch the sunrise. The house has everything you need and we spent most nights barbequing and enjoying the windward breezes and warm evenings. Consider making a stop at the Costco in Hawaii Kai on the drive in from the airport for your provisions for the stay. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to cook all your meals if you like. The house is comfortable, spacious, and clean. The back yard is spacious and we enjoyed relaxing in the hammock and looking at the ocean and the outrigger canoes racing by in the mornings and evenings each day. Lanikai is a great location on the island because it is quiet and peaceful but close enough to Kailua where you can go for restaurants and shopping (we went to the Farmers market on Thursday evening - it was fun). You can also jump on the freeway and go to the North Shore or south to Honolulu easily. The Hono Hale House has Paradise Out Your Back Door. We hope to go back again in the near future, Mahalo!

Best Vacation House Ever!!!

  • 5 of 5
I have been back on the main land for a week now and my heart aches when I look at the pictures of our beautiful Honu Hale Lanikai house. From the moment you arrive you know you will not want to leave this place. Rent your kayak on the way to the house, pick up some food and beverage and you are set for your stay. Gorgeous white sand beaches, crystal clear water, sea turtles swimming right by your house, snorkeling for hours, kayaking to the islands, PIll box hike right in your neighborhood, Ocean breezes at night. The house had EVERYTHING we needed bath towels, beach towels, washer/dryer, ironing board, wifi, dishes, pots, pans, outdoor shower, grill, boogie boards, hammock, beach chairs, icemaker in fridge...the list goes on and on. The lanai was our living space. We ate, relaxed and hung out there. The actual livingroom is really just a 3rd bedroom (futon) no one wanted to stay indoors. I would highly recommend this house if you are visiting Oahu.

Honu Hale Paradise

  • 5 of 5
We just returned from a wonderful week at Honu Hale. This property is a fabulous place for a family or 2 couple getaway. My husband and I stayed in the main house bedroom and our friends stayed in the separate upstairs Dolphin Suite. This gave both couples privacy while sharing the living room, kitchen and outdoor spaces. The O'hana room and yard with the seawall is worth the rental price alone. We cooked on the grill every night and ate outside. The photos and website for this home do not do it justice in our opinion. It looks ok in the pics, but is truly magical in person. It is like having the gentle turquoise waters of Lanikai (with the Mokes front and center) in your living room.

The house is so well-stocked. We have rented many other VRBO properties, and this one was the best: plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, coffee filters, basic spices, laundry detergent/dryer sheets, beach towels, an abundance of bed linens, even soap and shampoo. You just need to pick up a few groceries, and you're set for a week in paradise. When we visited, there were 2 boogie boards for floating along the shore, a snorkel set, and some children's beach toy items. We also found sunscreen and after-sun care Aloe, candles, and basic cleaning supplies. The property was super-clean and well maintained for what it is: a simple home on the sea. It's not an upscale, luxurious house, so if you're looking for that vibe, look elsewhere. But if you want a homey, relaxing sea cottage with everything you need to take advantage of the beautiful surroundings, book it today! John could not have been easier to work with, and the price is certainly reasonable for the neighborhood.

Something to consider: if you have alot of pre-booked tours booked or are planning on being on the go constantly, this may not be your rental. It is almost impossible to leave the home/yard. However, with Kailua Beach Park right down the road, with Kailua's charming atmosphere, you can just wander a few blocks and that might be enough.

We hope to return to Honu Hale for a longer stay soon. Mahalo, John!
