The cultural love child of genteel old Europe, the exotic Caribbean and the sultry South, New Orleans' original colonial neighborhood sets the scene for memorable romantic getaways. This is a city that revels in its passions, and for the visitor with an open heart the sensuality here can be infectious. It is also a city where people come to celebrate, whether by joining the massive public exuberance of Mardi Gras and other events or marking personal milestones in the lives of lovers, such as honeymoons and anniversaries. When a couple raises a glass in toast to each other, it can seem as though the entire town is following suit here.

Part of the appeal of New Orleans is its relaxed pace - a key ingredient to any romantic experience - and a leisurely carriage ride for two is a romantic way to get acquainted with the neighborhood at the beginning of a visit. Various types of mule-drawn carriages are available for hire at Jackson Square on Decatur Street. Carriage drivers generally narrate their tours of the Quarter with stories of various landmark properties, but just let him or her know at the start that you prefer to concentrate on your companion's company and you will have a serene cruise past the beautiful architecture and colorful street-scapes of the Vieux Carré. Snuggle under a blanket on the occasional chilly evening or bask in the tropical sunshine during another beautiful New Orleans day.

The French Quarter's many elegant restaurants make ideal venues for special meals with loved ones. But while the city is most famous for its Creole cuisine, it is the Italian restaurants of the French Quarter that offer some of the most romantic settings.

About the Owner

I am a professional who came to New Orleans post-Katrina to work on homes in Chalmette, (Saint Bernard Parish) that were damaged by water and the oil spill that occurred from Katrina. I fell in love with this city and the people here and decided to purchase a home and re-locate. I believe in the special magic of New Orleans and it's people and am dedicated to the rebuilding process.

My wife and I decided to spend the first few days of our honeymoon exploring New Orleans. All the hotels that we saw were either out of our price range or too far away, so we jumped at the opportunity stay at Carol's place when we saw it on

The location and accomodations were literally exactly what we were looking for. It's in a great, safe neighborhood, and the route from the house to the heart of Bourbon street was quick, easy and direct (which is especially helpful at the end of a long night in the French Quarter...). Frenchman's street is just as convenient and even closer if you are looking to experience the more "cultural" (i.e. arts and music scene) side of New Orleans. The room isn't exactly palatial, but it's comfortable, clean, quiet, very private, and in all ways, as much as you will need. With as much as New Orleans has to offer, you shouldn't be spending that much time in the room anyway.

Since there is so much to see, do, and (most importantly) eat in this city, having a knowledgeable resource like Carol was invaluable. She knew exactly what to recommend based on what we wanted to do. I felt like I had done my homework before we got there and that we knew all the places we wanted to go, but Carol directed us to a few other places that I hadn't found (and steered us away from the tourist traps), and that definitely enhanced the trip.

This was our first trip to New Orleans, and we decided on the first night that it would not be our last. We will definitely be staying at Carol's Oasis again.

We stayed here last July. The space was perfect for us! We loved how cozy it felt and the location was awesome. Parking was very close and Carol even taught me how to parallel park! Once we parked, we just left our car there since everything was pretty much accessible by walking. She offered lots of information about places to eat, which was especially helpful since I have several food allergies. She was able to make suggestions based on my needs, which was very much appreciated. The room was comfortable, the wifi came in handy, and the location puts you close to everything without having to deal with the noise/nuisance of being close to everything. I've suggested The Lofty Oasis to friends and look forward to staying here again sometime soon!

Amazing time in NOLA

  • 5 of 5
I booked The Lofty Oasis for a six day stay based on the location after conferring with family and friends who know the area. It was a fantastic trip!

There are a few things to be aware of with The Lofty Oasis. Not negatives, per se, just things to know before you book. (My husband didn't want me to write this part, but I would rather know the down sides before booking rather than after!)
1. It is really small. The hubs and I are big people, so maybe it seemed that much smaller to us, but it was really small.
2. The bathroom has louvered doors. You're in New Orleans. You're eating spicy foods. You're drinking. If you are someone who needs total privacy when doing your bathroom business, be aware that you can be heard. You need to have a certain level of intimacy if you're sharing this space!
3. The stairs leading up to the Oasis are a little steep and you need to unlock the right side with the key then unlock the slides on the left side to fit yourself and your luggage through the doors. I booked in September, and in December I developed some health issues that made this a challenge for me personally.

That being said, there are WAY more positives to the Oasis, and even knowing the above now, I still would book the Oasis for all of the following reasons:

1. Carol. She's wonderful. We arrived Thursday night and didn't see her until Tuesday evening, but we were welcomed warmly. We ran into her on the riverfront as well as on the apartment stairs, and every conversation was warm and friendly. She's a fabulous hostess.

2. The location. I'd never been to NOLA before, and based on what I'd heard, we didn't rent a car. We didn't need one at all. The Oasis is in a safe residential neighborhood right at the end of Bourbon Street where it intersects Esplanade. It's two blocks or so from Frenchmen Street. It's a few blocks from the end of the Riverfront Street Car and the French Market. We walked EVERYWHERE, about 5 to 7 miles a day. It was awesome.

3. Affordability. We would have had to spend double the price for a hotel in this same location. Seriously - can't beat the pricing.

4. Convenience. We'd go back and forth to the apartment several times a day. So easy and much more comfortable than an impersonal hotel.

If you are looking for an intimate personal local New Orleans experience, we highly recommend The Lofty Oasis!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and your compliments on our location and my hospitality. I'd like to clarify a few things:
First of all, it is not REALLY small. This unit is larger than some of the B&B rooms in the area and the bathroom is much larger than most that I have seen. Plus you have privacy and a private courtyard that most B&B's can't match. Yes, there are louvered doors and you can't see through to the bathroom, providing the same privacy as a standard door. Not one guest has had an issue since 2009 so I don't consider this a valid comment.
There are exactly 12 steps that lead to the apartment. They are not steep. They are spaced properly and are the proper width. Not one guest since 2009, including folks in their 70's, has had any trouble with the stairs. So I'm not sure what this guest is referring to.
I'm glad you would like to return to the Lofty Oasis and that you had a great time.

We just returned from New Orleans and stayed in Carol's loft. It was perfect in every way, yes, small, but all that we needed. Carol went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable! We will return and are thankful for this quiet, comfortable nest so close to where we wanted to be.

My girlfriend and I were invited to a wedding In New Orleans the same weekend that several conventions were in town. Needless to say finding a hotel that was either close to the attractions or not ridiculously price was a nightmare. The groom suggested we check out VRBO and carol's place definitely caught my eye.

The booking the payment and checking in was seamless upon our arrival. Carol was an absolute sweetheart and kind enough to suggest restuarants and local watering holes for my girlfriend and I to check out. She even gave us a brief history lesson on the famous street on which the property is located. Carol is very knowledgeable about the entire New Orleans region and any questions you may have will be answered at a moments notice.

The room itself was a bit smaller than my girlfriend and I were expecting but the location makes up any inadequacies on size. You are literally sitting on the end of bourbon street and the only a few minutes walk away from the bourbon st. jazz clubs restaurants and bars. Frenchman street is literally a block away from the property. With this location being so centrally located there is rarely a need to catch a cab to any of the attractions New Orleans has to offer.

My girlfriend and I had an absolute blast staying at Carol's "LOFTY New Orelans Oasis" and would definitely stay again! THANKS CAROL!!!!!!

My girlfriend and I traveled to NOLA for the first time. We decided to look into VRBO and thank god we did! We chose to stay with Carol at the Lofty Oasis. It was amazing! Carol has great recommendations when it comes to spending time in NOLA. She is also very knowledgeable about the history of NOLA and can pretty much tell you about anything and everything!! Upon arrival we received a personalized itinerary of things to do around the area. Carol even mentioned that she updates it regularly for seasonal visitors! The Lofty Oasis was a great space for my girlfriend and I. We felt very comfortable and at home. Carol has a great courtyard that you can lounge in after a day of walking around the city. Everything was clean and Carol went out of her way to accommodate an early check in for us. Overall, we would definitely recommend staying with Carol at any one of her awesome property's. Thank you Carol!!!

From the Owner

New Orleans is the most unique city in the United States with a European 'feel'. New Orleans architecture, history, music, art, and world renowned cuisine attract visitors from all over the world. I chose this property because of its proximity to the French Quarter and Frenchmen Street. Our home is located in the famous Bend of Bourbon where the 'Street Car Named Desire' once traveled. We are surrounded by mansions and homes on the National Historical Registry.
