The cultural love child of genteel old Europe, the exotic Caribbean and the sultry South, New Orleans' original colonial neighborhood sets the scene for memorable romantic getaways. This is a city that revels in its passions, and for the visitor with an open heart the sensuality here can be infectious. It is also a city where people come to celebrate, whether by joining the massive public exuberance of Mardi Gras and other events or marking personal milestones in the lives of lovers, such as honeymoons and anniversaries. When a couple raises a glass in toast to each other, it can seem as though the entire town is following suit here.

Part of the appeal of New Orleans is its relaxed pace - a key ingredient to any romantic experience - and a leisurely carriage ride for two is a romantic way to get acquainted with the neighborhood at the beginning of a visit. Various types of mule-drawn carriages are available for hire at Jackson Square on Decatur Street. Carriage drivers generally narrate their tours of the Quarter with stories of various landmark properties, but just let him or her know at the start that you prefer to concentrate on your companion's company and you will have a serene cruise past the beautiful architecture and colorful street-scapes of the Vieux Carré. Snuggle under a blanket on the occasional chilly evening or bask in the tropical sunshine during another beautiful New Orleans day.

The French Quarter's many elegant restaurants make ideal venues for special meals with loved ones. But while the city is most famous for its Creole cuisine, it is the Italian restaurants of the French Quarter that offer some of the most romantic settings.

About the Owner

I am a professional who came to New Orleans post-Katrina to work on homes in Chalmette, (Saint Bernard Parish) that were damaged by water and the oil spill that occurred from Katrina. I fell in love with this city and the people here and decided to purchase a home and re-locate. I believe in the special magic of New Orleans and it's people and am dedicated to the rebuilding process.

My wife and I decided to spend the first few days of our honeymoon exploring New Orleans. All the hotels that we saw were either out of our price range or too far away, so we jumped at the opportunity stay at Carol's place when we saw it on

The location and accomodations were literally exactly what we were looking for. It's in a great, safe neighborhood, and the route from the house to the heart of Bourbon street was quick, easy and direct (which is especially helpful at the end of a long night in the French Quarter...). Frenchman's street is just as convenient and even closer if you are looking to experience the more "cultural" (i.e. arts and music scene) side of New Orleans. The room isn't exactly palatial, but it's comfortable, clean, quiet, very private, and in all ways, as much as you will need. With as much as New Orleans has to offer, you shouldn't be spending that much time in the room anyway.

Since there is so much to see, do, and (most importantly) eat in this city, having a knowledgeable resource like Carol was invaluable. She knew exactly what to recommend based on what we wanted to do. I felt like I had done my homework before we got there and that we knew all the places we wanted to go, but Carol directed us to a few other places that I hadn't found (and steered us away from the tourist traps), and that definitely enhanced the trip.

This was our first trip to New Orleans, and we decided on the first night that it would not be our last. We will definitely be staying at Carol's Oasis again.

Perfect hideaway in the city centre

I was in New Orleans for an academic conference, which was being held in two corporate hotels on the other side of the French Quarter, and I was looking for a different sort of place to stay: more affordable, but also with more local character (one you're inside in those places, you could be anywhere from Brussels to Tokyo). Carol's apartment was absolutely ideal, a peaceful self-contained unit in a quiet well-lit residential area just a few minutes' walk from the centre of things, well equipped and extremely comfortable, and more spacious than the pictures suggest. Each day I had a fantastic walk across the humming centre of the French Quarter, and was enchanted by the place. Carol was a wonderful and discreet hostess, giving tips on where to eat and where to get groceries etc. She was full of valuable insider knowledge about live jazz venues!

True NOLA Experience

  • 4 of 5
My husband and I stayed at Lofty Oasis for three nights in the middle of July. The unit is as described, well stocked with plenty of towels, toiletries, small refrigerator, flat screen television, Wi-Fi and air conditioning! It is a separate single unit located at the rear of the house, with private access through securely locked gate along side of house and very well lit after dark. The property is located in the Marigny, a mostly residential neighborhood adjacent to the French Quarter. You can be on Bourbon Street, Royal Street or Frenchman’s Street within a few short minutes of walking. Parking pass provided by owner, which is an added plus. We parked our car and did not use it again until we left. We walked everywhere and the tour company we used picked us up at Carol’s front door. Carol was very helpful and provided us a map with several dinner suggestions for the night we arrived. There is a very clean convenience mart on Esplanade around the corner which we used grab water and snacks to fill the fridge. Staying at Lofty Oasis really adds to the whole New Orleans experience. Thank you Carol!

Great rental!

  • 5 of 5
My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights at the "Lofty New Orleans Oasis". Carol suggested a couple of good local places to eat based on what we were looking for. She was friendly and helpful. We were able to park our car on the street in front of the house which is a HUGE advantage in this area of New Orleans. The area/street was clean and I felt my car was safe the whole time. The location is excellent! Short walks to both Frenchman street and the "happening" area of the quarter. The Studio was small but perfect for the two of us. My only "issue" was the size of the bed, which is a double. We sleep in a king at home so it was much smaller than we were used to. The bed itself is comfortable, just small. All in All We had a blast in NOLA and I would absolutely recommend this rental! Its a STEAL for the price and for the local advice that comes with it!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay. It was my pleasure to share my knowledge of great local places to eat and visit. For the record, the bed is a Queen, not a double. But I guess if you are used to sleeping in a King it might feel smaller. Hope you can visit with us again in the future!

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. It is the perfect place for a couple or someone traveling alone. Great location we were able to park our car right out front and never needed to moved it again. We walked everywhere in the French Quarter. Carol is very nice and knowledgeable about New Orleans so do and eat what she suggests!

Charming Studio in great location!

  • 5 of 5
This is the second property we've stayed that Carol has managed. As with the first time, Carol was very responsive and made the check-in/out process very easy. She has a wealth of information about local restaurants and activities. Listen to her advice! The apt is perfectly located on a quiet street right between the French Quarter and Frenchmen St. So easy to get around! In terms of the studio, it is located at the back of the house through a secure gate at the front of the property. There is an adorable patio which is perfect for coffee, pre-dinner cocktails or getting some work done. The studio itself is very small, but perfect if you're going to be out and about and just need a place to sleep. The a/c and bathroom work great and the studio was very clean and well stocked. This is definitely the way to go if you want to see Nola like a "local". We can't wait to go back and will definitely book through Carol again!

From the Owner

New Orleans is the most unique city in the United States with a European 'feel'. New Orleans architecture, history, music, art, and world renowned cuisine attract visitors from all over the world. I chose this property because of its proximity to the French Quarter and Frenchmen Street. Our home is located in the famous Bend of Bourbon where the 'Street Car Named Desire' once traveled. We are surrounded by mansions and homes on the National Historical Registry.
