Property Details

Updated: Nov 28, 2014
3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, sleeper sofa, sleeps 8-10

Villa Las Olas is one of four beachfront homes in a secluded and secure development of 40 privately-owned homes. A private, jetted pool, Italian stone and wood patio, and 'next to the forest' location (end villa) distinguishes Villa Las Olas for its luxury and its privacy. At the same time, our home provides everything you need for a comfortable and easy stay. Its spacious dimensions provide ample room for larger groups, but are still intimate enough for traveling twosomes. Two of the three generously sized bedrooms are ocean-front, which makes our set-up ideal for more than one couple or family. The fully equipped kitchen provides options for meals and entertaining, and the convenience of a full-size washer and dryer is great for families with children and for adults who travel light. Furnishings are fresh and tropical, but also practical and child-worthy. Beach towels, boogie boards, and buckets for sand castles are provided!

The villa is fully air-conditioned (mini-splits in each of the bedroom for individual control), and each room has screens and an overhead fan to enjoy the pleasant ocean breezes and sounds of this tropical paradise.

The master bedroom has King bed, a balcony with rocking chairs that overlooks the ocean, full closet, cable television and an attached private full bath. The second bedroom is also ocean front, and has two full beds, cable television, a dresser and full closet. It is a large and airy room. The third bedroom has two twin beds that can convert to a king, a dresser, space for the infant 'Pack and Play' bed and changing table, cable television, and a garden view.

The main level has a very open lay-out with French doors to the pool and beach from both the living room and the dining room. The living room includes a comfortable sleeper sofa, two matching chairs, and cable television. The dining room seats six. The fully-equipped kitchen is spacious, and includes a breakfast 'bar' that seats four, refrigerator with ice maker, cooking range and oven, dishwasher and microwave. Directly off the kitchen is a utility room with a full washer and dryer, an iron and an ironing pad, and a safe for your valuables.

Whale-watching, world class fishing and diving, as well as good old wave bobbing and boogey boarding, are available just steps from the pool and patio of our home. The sea provides constant entertainment, be it the delight of seeing silver rays fly out of the water and whales breech or, closer in, watching brown pelicans dive for their lunch or lively tide pools, and making temporary pets of hermit crabs. We love sitting on our deck overlooking the sea with our morning Costa Rican coffee, and waiting for the green flash as the evening sun sinks below the horizon.

Our on-site concierge is available to help you make arrangements for your Costa Rican adventures. Ziplining, hot springs, wildlife tours and cloud forest visits are popular, but don’t forget the cooking schools, horseback rides, paddle-boarding and beach-side massages! Of course, you never need to leave home for the best snorkeling around – it’s right outside your door! So is the best food in the area. The romantic and open-air beachside setting of the our restaurant is the perfect backdrop for its delicious, innovative and beautifully presented selection of North American and Costa Rican dishes. And our chefs are happy to deliver your meals to the villa and to prepare your catch after a long day of fishing!

If yours is a working vacation, fear not. FREE WIRELESS BROADBAND is available throughout our home AND the outdoor patio, and cellular service is exceptional. Our reception office can assist with basic office needs. No one will know you have escaped to paradise.

About the Owner

We're a recently retired couple who visited this property with our children over spring break for more than 10 consecutive years. Our children always insisted it was better than Disney and better than Hawaii! Now that we have more time to spend in Paradise, we bought and hope to keep making memories with our adult children. We are delighted to share our lovely home with you, and we will work hard to assure that you enjoy it as much as we have!

Wonderful villa rental!

  • 5 of 5
I can't say enough about our vacation rental. It was everything imagined, and more. The owner is extremely helpful and provides excellent advice to make vacation plans. The entire staff at the resort were friendly and professional. The short walk to the beach was amazing, as were the private and community pools. Staying in Playa Ocotal was an excellent choice because it is central for day trips to several beaches and national parks. I highly recommend this villa.

Best location in Bahia Rez Vela!

  • 5 of 5
Villa Las Olas is the best villa in a wonderful resort. Our week stay was too short. Like others mentioned: the villa is very well-stocked, beds and other furniture very comfortable, great base for outings, the private pool is awesome and the resort pool is 3 villas down.

This particular villa has the best location in the resort, trees on one side and landscaped privacy between it and the villa next door. While we were there the resort seemed pretty empty, very few people at the restaurant, resort pool and beach. That was wonderful for us! The beach is so close that we didn't bother to bring towels with us, just walked back up to the villa and plopped down on very comfy patio furniture. Snorkeling was so easy time of day; just put on your mask and stick your face in the water anywhere. There were always fish to see. Around the rocks at either end of the beach was most populated but plenty to see in the middle too. There was only one afternoon that the water was a bit murky.

I had read that it was rainy season at the time of our visit but we only got rain once while zipling about an hour away from the resort. Zipling was great anyway! As was an ATV tour and a wave-runner tour. The wave-runner tour was particularly good because the bay was wide-open with very few boats. So I wasn't worried about how wild my 20yo was driving; he only took one spill.

The on-site restaurant is good. Get a smoothie by the pool, but if you order food walk upstair and eat at the tables. These birds that look like giant blue-jays are very agressive. While my 11yo was holding a plate of fries one landed on her head, scared the daylights out of her!

We also like Father Roosters (very close) and we really liked Ginger (25 minutes away). Make a reservation for Ginger; it's small and gets busy. They have a great selection of tapas.

In the evenings we were visited by raccoons. They are taller and sleeker that the ones I've seen in the States. After petting one that someone had as a pet while we were on the ATV ride I was tempted to feed them. I bet a lot of people do cuz they seemed very comfortable literally lying around within 5' of us in the yard. Instead we took lots of pictures of them.

I would go back to this resort and this villa and I will recommend both to my friends.

The Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5
I don't have much to add to what has already been said in other reviews. For our group (5 adults & 1 child) the villa, pool and ocean provided the perfect vacation. My review can be summed up by my son's statement upon arrival. "Dad, we have found paradise!"

Absolutely amazing!

Our stay was amazing! The photos give a perfect reflection of the home except for the proximity of the beach - it's even closer than it looks! The owner was very helpful with the booking process and provided great notes on the area. I highly recommend this villa for your stay!

Best villa in Bahia Pez Vela

  • 5 of 5
Highly recommended. This villa is the best available in the fantastic Bahia Pez Vela development -- beachfront, achitecturally designed pool, lush landscaping, private and beautifully furnished. Just spent a week in April here, and it was a perfect time for a visit. Some of the crowds have gone back north, but the perfect sunshine stayed behind. Staff at Bahia Pez Vela do everything they can to assure that you are comfortable and well cared for, from the guards, to the gardeners to Cesar and Isabel who helped me arrange tours and activities. I don't travel internationally much because I'm just not comfortable with it, but this team made me feel at home. Picante Restaurant serves the best food in the area, by far. Convenience and perfection are hard to find in one spot. Although I truly enjoyed swimming in the beautiful sea out my front door, and watching the monkeys in the trees by the house, this is a great base camp for other adventures. We ziplined over canyons near Rincon de la Vieja volcano and national park, spotted the resplendent quetzal at Monterverde, and learned (well almost learned) how to surf at Tamarindo. Best vacation ever. Highly recommend Villa Las Olas!

Most wonderful and relaxing vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5
My family of four just returned from a marvelous stay at Villa 4 in Bahia Pez Vela resort. Let me start by saying Bahia Pez Vela is the prime spot among all the beach areas we saw while in the Playa Ocotal area. We chose that area due to its proximity to the Liberia airport (about 25 minutes from Villa 4's door!). Our vacation began by flying in to San Jose and white water rafting to Arenal (with Desafio) where we stayed 2 days and zip lined (Sky Trek) and canyon repelling (Pure Trek). We then enjoyed a spectacular (7 am) boat ride across Lake Arenal where we were met with horses. Unlike in the US, the horsemen simply gave us the horses with a few instructions and told us to ride up the road about 2 hrs! It was the most gorgeous ride along the perimeter of the lake. We arrived at a gorgeous stream where the horses seemed to know and then we were met by a driver that transported us
(about 1 1/2 hrs) to Monteverde (this was arranged with Desafio). We stayed 2 days in the cloud forest at Hotel Belmar! Stunning property, but be prepared for the total rejuvenation and contemplation that comes from no tvs in the room, twice daily yoga offerings and complete spa services, oh, and the view is magnificent. After 2 days of rest and enjoying the hanging bridges in Selvatura, the Hotel Belmar staff arranged a private transport for us to Bahia Pez Vela's Villa 4. Door too door, this was about 3 hrs. Plus, the driver stopped in Coco for us to grab our groceries. After all our adventure, we didn't think our experience could be topped, but Villa 4 did! It is exquisite from the moment you arrive. The wonderful and fully stocked kitchen with open concept to the beautiful dining and living spaces. The master bed with waaaaay comfy king bed and private balcony with two authentic leather strap Costa Rican rocking chairs. I enjoyed my coffee there while overlooking the private infinity pool and ebony beach of Bahia Pez Vela beyond. There are two additional bedrooms (one ocean front) and one garden/hillside view). These too had comfy beds and luxurious linens! Our boys 14 & 10 enjoyed the private pool and the communal pool (3 villas down) from dawn to dusk! We walked the 20 yds to the beautiful beach where we snorkeld and daily spotted birds and monkeys. The staff can arrange excursions and many come right to the beach to pick you up! The owners where the most gracious and easy to work with. Bahia Pez Vela is a standout property and Villa 4 is a premium!

From the Owner

We love what the property offers -- beautiful ebony beach with fantastic swimming, snorkeling and tide-pooling; professional and friendly staff; great food in a romantic setting; wonderful pools; a casual vibe; and close proximity to the fun town of Coco and the new airport. As noted, we visited for at least a week every year for more than a decade, and after the first visit could never get our children to consider a different spring break location! We felt lucky to be able to purchase Villa Las Olas. We always admired its large infinity pool, beachfront location, lush gardens, and welcome privacy. The view of the sea from the quiet stone patio cannot be beat. The home comes with unique evening entertainment -- we love watching the howler monkey family that comes to the trees late in the afternoon to dine on leaves! We are enjoying our new home immensely!

This is a secluded and very secure development of only 40 privately owned homes. The very private ebony beach provides world class snorkeling, calm waters for swimming, and fascinating tide pools that are full of sea life. The grounds are immaculate and feature a large grassy lawn between the villa and the beach, beautifully maintained blooming shrubs and flowers, and mature trees. The wildlife is abundant -- howler monkeys frequently munch the leaves from the trees in front of the villa, green parakeets chatter as they dart from one tree to another, blue green mot mots show off frequently, and the occasional blue jay, iguana and gecko can be spotted. If you can tear yourself away from the beach and your private pool, the nearby town of Coco is lively, fun and safe. Golf at Papagayo Golf in Sardinal, or go a bit further to Hacienda Pinillas or the Four Seasons. Spend a half day deep sea fishing and bring yellow fin tuna, grouper and snapper home to the chef at the property's on-site restaurant for special treatment. Great diving is can be arranged in Coco, as can sail boat adventures. Venture inland to Volcan Arenal or Rincon de la Vieja and take in ziplines, volcanic mud baths and hot springs, white water rafting and horseback rides in the high country. Drive the 'Monkey Trail' to beaches to the south, including Ostional for early morning turtle hatching, Tamarindo for its surf, and Conchal for a sunset at the beach restaurant in Brasilito. All this within 25 minutes of the airport!
