House, 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps (6-8)

Nestled on a quiet lane, deep in the West Seattle greenbelt, this grand old house is only a seven minute drive from downtown and walking distance to shopping, restaurants and services. Over recent years, this 1915 home has been lovingly updated while maintaining its homey “lived-in” feel. With four bedrooms, two full baths, living room, formal dining room, gourmet kitchen, breakfast nook, reading room, and knotty pine paneled study, there is enough space to get lost in, yet feel comfortably wrapped in its cozy warmth. Sit back in one of the rockers on the enclosed front porch and imagine you're in a tree house. You’ll love how the home rambles, offering views onto the surrounding forest and beautifully landscaped grounds, highlighted by a large babbling waterfall into a goldfish pond filled with exotic water-plants. Terraced into the hillside are a number of “quiet places” and patios to sit and enjoy a moment of solitude or gather for conversation.

French doors off the kitchen open onto a large deck with wicker seating and gas grill. Another set of doors off the rear breakfast nook access the backyard patio garden, letting the outside in, allowing full enjoyment of summer in Seattle or views for contemplation on a rainy day.

Owner/manager on site.

About the Owner

We love the richness of our lives and it is reflected in our family values and independent ideas. Max is a native of Seattle while I am from San Francisco but came to Seattle twenty five years ago, where the two of us met and joined forces to raise a wonderful extended family of four children. Max is an artist and master lease- holder of two buildings in historic Pioneer Square while I am a committed corporate director. With the children grown and four beautiful grandchildren to enjoy on weekends, we decided to “simplify” our lives so we could pursue other pursuits - like a tin mine in Congo! Never a dull moment! We look forward to meeting you.

This place is very comfortable for large groups and we loved the serene back yard. We would love to stay here again if we make it back to this city.

Ladies Trip

  • 5 of 5
We had 8 ladies and were all very comfortable. It is a lovely home with a beautiful outside area to relax. The beds are comfy and very relaxing atmosphere. Owners live on site in lower apartment and are very accommodating and nice. We spent a lot of time in Seattle taking the water taxi which is a good 20 min brisk walk to the dock and used Uber to come home late night for very reasonable price I think around $30 from downtown Seattle for 8. The grocery store is a quite a ways maybe 1.5 miles, a cab would be good if you don't have a car. You really don't need a car other than for the store. We all would recommend this home and if ever do another year ladies trip in Seattle would rent again.

Great historic home in West Seattle

  • 5 of 5
Janelle and Max were fantastic hosts. Everything we needed was available in the home. Very easy access to Seattle and other locations. We had 5 men stay in this home and it was very comfortable. Thanks Janelle. I would recommend to any guest looking for an affordable and rustic home.

Perfect for a group of friends OR a family gathering

  • 5 of 5
I was fortunate to stay at this stunning home when in Seattle for a special event. There were 4 of use and we each got our bedrooms with comfortable beds! The house was very clean and the kitchen provided all we needed to make breakfast and fix snacks for our days out around town. This house is conveniently located near the water taxi into downtown, or a quick drive over the bridge.

The back yard and porches are what I loved most. I slept with the window open b/c I could hear the flowing steam which was right outside my window. The flowers were beautiful, the landscaping was a nice balance to the inside of the house.

We enjoyed the living room couches where we would sit in the evening enjoying conversations with friends we hadn't seen in years. The house was perfect for our time in Seattle.

The owners were super responsive to any need we had! Thanks to both of them!!!

Comfort and Convenience.

  • 5 of 5
My family stayed in this lovely home to celebrate birthdays. Each of us, from 3-yr old to retirees, were made to feel welcome by Janelle and Max. The house had privacy spots and get-together places, both inside and out. We cooked and watched movies, chatted and caught up with one another. The art on the walls, the comfort of the beds and couches, and the warmth of our hosts made this a big favorite for us.

Clean, large and roomy house

  • 4 of 5
Stayed at this house with 8 people. It was very roomy and comfortable. The back yard is the best, as I love sitting outdoors. The rooms are exactly as shown in the pictures. Max and Janelle are super nice people. House was very clean. Great location, close to everything. We like to roam around the city, not just downtown area. If back in Seattle, would try to rent again. Thanks to Max and Janelle!

Girls gone wild weekend

  • 5 of 5
We're not really wild. Five of us childhood friends get together at a different place once a year and this year we stayed here. We had so much fun and the house and gardens are fantastic. It' great that it's in West Seattle because it feels so rural but yet minutes from the city. I would definitely recommend staying there. No comparison to staying in a hotel and the price is very good. The house is super comfortable and has great charm. The bedroom I stayed in has all glass which I loved and a super comfortable bed. With the window open you can hear the water fall that goes into a beautiful koi pond.

From the Owner

We purchased this property because of its serene and private qualities and its potential to one day reflect our true lifestyle and character. After many years of loving toil, today it is everything we dreamed of and more. Its close, convenient proximity to downtown, while hidden in the trees overlooking Elliott Bay, this in-city retreat exudes the true ambiance of Seattle. There isn’t a friend or stranger who has stayed here, who doesn’t feel relaxed and rejuvenated by its warmth and natural style.

From the Owner

After a long day of upscale shopping, boating, taking in the many Seattle attractions, or attending a professional sports event, you can return to the serenity of your private oasis. Cook dinner in your gourmet kitchen and dine on the patio or formal dining room. Enjoy the lights of the city skyline as you reflect on the day from the cozy sitting porch before retiring for the night to the sound of your own waterfall. Wrap yourself in the morning sights and sounds of the birds and outdoor wildlife alongside the natural-style water feature before you start your day all over again. There is a lot of space for everyone including a reading room, a game room and a large living room with stone fireplace for those rainy Seattle nights.
