My wife and 2 preteen kids, along with another couple, flew our plane from Pennsylvania to Rock Sound airport on Eleuthera for a week long stay. The flight from Palm Beach was less than 1 1/2 hours. Customs was fast and friendly at the 7,000 airport only a 15 minute drive from the house.
We were met by Columbus with our rental van and went to the house. It took our breath away. The pictures don't do justice to the view. It is located right on a beautiful bay with palms and crystal water. We brought wet suits but never used them. We did use the 3 kayaks which came with the rental and the cabana on the beach. Sunrise and sunset walks on the bay were great.
The house is clean and nicely furnished with a big flat screen TV, surround and stereo, comfy couches and a great patio. There was a constant cool breeze and we never turned on the air conditioning. There is a master suite on the ground floor and two good sized bedrooms on the second floor. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped.
The best place to shop was The Market, a grocery store in Rock Sound. It had everything we needed. Prices were higher than in the states, but not excessively so. You can also get local food at local restaurants (we tried Sammies and Barbies, as well as the more upscale Four Points)
We took side trips to Tarpum Bay, Rock Sound and Governor's Harbor. We also drove to Lighthouse Beach at the very southern tip of the island. This was our highlight. The road is terrible as advertised, but we made it in an old minivan, so it can't be that bad. The Caribbean and atlantic meet there and it was just breathtaking. We posted lots of photos at marksvelocity.blogspot.com.
All in all a terrific trip.
