Exceptional property for a large group of people right in the heart of San Francisco

The location of this property was ideal for my family as we were visiting Alcatraz during our stay. It was a short walk to the pier as well as Coit Tower, Chinatown and of course all the North Beach Restaurants and Cafes. We had an amazing time and the Condo had ample room for the 9 adults and one child we had in our group. The downstairs living room and dining area were ideal for all of us to gather at the end of the day - sip wine from our wine tour - and play lots of fun games. Any questions at all, David would immediately reply to via email and we couldn't have had a better host!

We had 9 of us staying here and it was perfect for what we needed! The location was great for walking everywhere especially Fishermans wharf, Lombard st and excellent restaurants in North Beach. There was a great small market right around the corner where we could pick up anything we needed- very convenient! David was very thorough and provided an excellent welcome letter with all details you needed! In other reviews, people mentioned that the kitchen was small which is true but it was easy to navigate and was a non- issue for our group! Plus, it was very clean and updated Another plus was the washer/dryer available. Overall, we would recommend this and definitely come back!!

Great Location/Great Place

  • 5 of 5
If you are looking for a large place right in the heart of SF's North Beach district then this is the perfect place for you and your friends/family. The rooms were large and comfortable and there is a large room downstairs with couches and a tv where you can all relax when not seeing the sites. This place worked out great for our reunion. Thanks!

Somewhat disappointed in the house. The description was not entirely accurate. There were 4 bedrooms, two of which had no closets or dressers to put clothing in, we were forced to live out of our suitcases for the duration of our stay. The description also says there are 2 and 1/4 bathrooms, not true...there is one bathroom with a toilet and sink on the main level, one bathroom on the main level with a tub only, and one full bath on lower level. The description also says that all bedrooms have dressers and night stands, not true! In addition, there is not adequate seating on the main level for the number of guests ( we were a family of 8 adults ) we could not sit at a table on the main floor to eat together, nor could we sit in living room area. The plus...great location.

Such an amazing place + perfect location

This was the first time i was using HomeAway website and had my concerns. However David made it all too easy. We got all instructions prior to arriving.

The house is located in a quite street away from all the madness. so its a perfect place to start the mornings.
The pier is only 5 - 10 minutes by walk. We walked it everyday to get breakfast and enjoyed the view on the coast. Lovely view of Golden gate bridge and Alcatraz Island.
There are many restaurants around the home, also a famous bakery which must be visited.
The house was clean and had more than enough towels, pillows, blankets.

The city center was a little far but trams or taxi's were very easy to pick up and took around 15 mins.

We couldnt have asked for a better place than davids apartment. Amazing views, big rooms, Comfy beds.
Getting ready in the mornings was nice and quick as in a big group you need 2 showers and thats exactly what we had. Everyone of us 8 got a comfy bed each which was amazing. Some got lucky with a king bed to themselves.

Also the crooked street was right on our door step, we visited it every day.
The view from the roof is spectacular. We went up for only a few minutes as it was reserved for the people above us but we went up to take some pictures and david was ok with it.
We took some amazing snaps of the pier and alcatraz.

The pier/ Wharf has pretty much everything. Bus tours, bike hires, segway hires ( that is a must) was so fun.
Great places to eat and drink and they are also opening a madame tussauds.

I dont think ill ever be staying at a hotel after this experience.
We felt so relaxed in our apartment and felt homey as soon as we walked in.

Thank you Fransisco and David for having us. :)

Family Weekend

  • 5 of 5
this perfectly located unit was exactly as advertised and a bit more. The owner has thought of everything you might need and it was extremely convenient. On top of that, unlike some rentals that exaggerate things like views and location, this aspect was actually understated. Drop dead views of the Golden Gate Bridge, for example, were a pleasant surprise. It really is walking distance to the Wharf---we walked there numerous times over the weekend and then easily returned to our nice, quiet neighborhood. The place easily accommodated 7 adults and 3 children.

From the Owner

This property is as charming as it gets with only two properties on the alley and given its proximity to everything the area has to offer at your door step, it is a wonderful place to be while seeing all that SF has to offer. There are wonderful views from the kitchen and upstairs living room.

Activity and Interests

Published by the San Francisco Chronicle:

North Beach is that rare place - a neighborhood that manages to be a perennial hit with tourists, yet remains beloved by San Franciscans. It's best known as San Francisco's Little Italy, with its high density of check-clothed ristorantes, caffes and Old World delicatessens. It's also a popular pilgrimage for fans of the Beat movement seeking the old haunts of Kerouac and Ginsberg. However, North Beach is no relic as it has much to offer beyond pasta and poetry.

This vital neighborhood is home to some of the liveliest nightclubs and bars in town. Small boutiques carrying handmade clothing and imported goods dot the streets, particularly on upper Grant Avenue. Though Italian restaurants appear to dominate the dining scene, there are plenty of other good spots to try once you've had your fill of lasagna, with menus featuring Japanese, French and contemporary fusion cuisine. City Lights, original publisher of Allen Ginsberg's 'Howl,' is still one of the best bookstores in San Francisco, and founder Lawrence Ferlinghetti can sometimes be seen strolling the neighborhood.

Part of the old Barbary Coast, North Beach is steeped in the past - Grant Avenue itself is the oldest street in San Francisco. In the early days, North Point docks served as a gateway for immigrants from South America, Europe and the Australian penal colonies. It wasn't until the late 1800s that thousands of Italians made the area their stronghold and turned it into the local Latin Quarter. The Italian-American community can also be credited in part with protecting the neighborhood against the fire that swept the city after the 1906 earthquake. According to legend, some enterprising residents cracked open the barrels of red wine in their cellars and saved their houses by draping them with wine-soaked blankets. In more recent history, North Beach has produced some notable people, including baseball's great, Joe DiMaggio, who moved there at the age of one and grew up in a flat at Valparaiso and Taylor. Also, former San Francisco mayor Joseph Alioto was born in North Beach.

Whether prowling for historic landmarks, sampling house-roasted espressos, shopping, clubbing or chowing down, you'll find North Beach has plenty to offer for both a leisurely afternoon visit and a night on the town. Take a detour off the main drag of Columbus and you're likely to run across some unexpected treasure of a shop, restaurant or spectacular view that only this San Francisco gem-of-a-neighborhood could offer.
