Guestbook comments from the owner

The weather was nice for December. 50's at the beginning of our stay and in the low 70's towards the end. We went to Cade's Cove, The Aquarium and lots and lots of sight seeing. We also would recommend Dick's. My Favorite thing was as soon as we got off the interstate in Sevierville, there was an Awesome Christmas light show. Enjoyed the cabin. Thank you!

Cute Cabin up the mountain :)

  • 3 of 5
This is a very cute and cozy "budget" cabin. Our little family really had a great time there. The drive "up" to the cabin was exciting. We didn't realize just how far up the mountain it was. The higher up the better for us, you get better views. In the snowy season I would recommend a 4x4 or you are not getting up there. One of the negatives I have is that the drive where you park is not by the cabin, it's above the cabin. There are 32 concrete multiple sized steps/stairs to get down to the cabin. We were not aware of this prior to arrival. Unpacking for 5 days, carrying our items back and forth along with an 8 month old was quite a workout. I would suggest noting that somewhere in the rental ad. The inside of the cabin is decorated very nicely, the Amish furniture was really awesome. I want to find some for my own home :) The bathroom shower was newly remodeled as stated but the detachable shower head itself was a bit odd. We had to either hold it and shower or use the band that was attached to hold it at the angle you needed. We stayed in the loft because of the bigger bed and the space to set up our playpen, plus it was really need to wake up and see out of the super large window in front of you. The hot tub was nice. It is underneath the cabin and I would suggest a door/gate or something to make you feel a little more secure. I was scared to use it because I thought a bear was gonna come in there and eat me. The cabin was clean, but could have been cleaner. The top part of the big window was pretty dirty. All in all it was a nice stay. Wasn't what we were expecting but it worked out good for us. Thanks for the stay.

Close, but secluded!

  • 5 of 5
My family (my husband, sons-7 and 4 years old-and I) LOVED the Sugar Shack! It was close enough to the parkway and Park that it made getting out and exploring easy...it made getting home and relaxing on the beautiful deck even easier! We didn't cook much (except to use the toaster and microwave) but it is set up nicely (still bummed we never barbecued, but we wanted to try the local restaurants!). Thanks for sharing your great property with my family! We had a great time!

cabin mini vacation

I have loved every cabin these owners have to offer. This is our 3rd year staying in one of their cabins and it was a wonderful time as always! Highly recommended! Everything about the sugar shack screams relaxation, and that's just what we needed.

Disappointing and Disgusting

  • 1 of 5
Due to numerous traffic delays, we arrived at the cabin after dark. There were no lights on at the driveway, no lights on the stairs and no lights on in the cabin; very dangerous! Once in the cabin, we noticed a strong musty odor, definately not just cleaned as advertised; bed linens felt and smelled dirty, the windows were filty, cobwebs were everywhere, quite disgusting. The lighting in the cabin was very poor and dim, made you wonder what they didn't want you to see. For the hot tub being "new", it too was very dirty and we found the location under the deck to be odd and inconvenient. We contacted the owners to express our dissatisfaction, they offered to send the cleaning crew but we has already decided to find other arranagements. They refused to issue a full refund but did eventually refund the housekeeping fee, not nearly enough! I would definately NOT recommend this cabin!!!!

Owner's Response: Jeanne's male guest, called at 8:00PM and stated that he was not happy that our thermostat had a "lock out", which is stated in our terms and conditions, and that he was not able to turn the air conditioner below 68 degrees. (He wanted to set to 62 degrees to sleep) Seriously?? It was 72 degrees outside and the forecast was for lows in the 50's. I stated that the thermostat locks so our unit does not freeze up when set below 68. He then said the lights were out, out front, and I told him there was an emergency kit under the kitchen sink with a flash light if needed until our maintenance man could get there, and he said, "we have lights on our phones". He then said that there were webs and the cabin smelled musty. I offered several time to send out my cleaning and maintenance staff to take care of the issues which were declined. We traveled over 200 miles to the cabin the next day. We purchased a dehumidifier and when we arrived at the cabin, it did not smell musty and the dehumidifier would not turn on because the humidity in the cabin was within normal range at 59 percent. The Climate in the Mountains is much different than Ohio! A tripped breaker was the cause of lights being out in the front and after going thru the cabin we could only find one web, 25 fee up in the living room eave. We had guests depart the morning of their arrival and the cabin and windows were cleaned just hours prior to their arrival. (filty??) Our New Hot tub was crystal clear and is advertised as being on a "tuck under patio" for privacy. He recommended that it be moved up to the deck which would be an extreme safety hazard. We have a no refund policy for early departures, which Jeanne agreed to, since we will come back to the cabin to take care of any issues, but they declined and were aware of the no refund policy. As a good will gesture, we did refund the cleaning fee and all sales tax paid. These guests did NOT stay at my cabin. **Very next guests who stayed on 10/5 left a 5 star review as well as Guests who stayed on 10/16 also left a 5 star review!!!
