Magical Penthouse Hideaway + Deck = 360' Views!
Marina District San Francisco

Perfect base for San Francisco!

  • 5 of 5
Wow! What a great find this apartment was! We spent 10 nights here as our base for exploring San Francisco and didn’t want for anything during our stay. The apartment is even better than it appears in the photos and was spotlessly clean throughout. We found the fold-out bed to be very comfortable and of equal quality to a normal bed. There were many guide books to peruse as well as a handy folder of menus from local restaurants. The views from every window and the roof deck are magic even when there was fog. We were a bit taken aback by the fog horns at first but it’s now a sound that instantly brings back fond memories of our stay in San Francisco. We quickly started to feel at home in the lovely Marina neighbourhood, finding many good restaurants within 10-15 minutes walking distance. We had a 7 day Muni passport and frequently used the 30 Stockton bus. This is a very handy bus route which enables easy access to Fisherman’s Wharf, Little Italy, Chinatown on Stockton Street and Union Square. To save our feet after a long day of walking, sometimes we even caught a bus back from dinner on Chestnut Street as there is a stop just half a block away from the apartment. The Marina area is relatively flat which is a plus when compared to the steep streets found in many other parts of San Francisco. Rayne was quick to respond at all times right from our initial booking inquiry and was most pleasant to deal with.

I left my heart in SF

  • 5 of 5
The apt is spectacular with views to the Golden Gate Bridge, the S.F. skyline and our constant companion and “night light” the Palace of Fine Arts, beautifully lit. The apartment is carefully planned in every detail, very clean, well appointed, full of light, cozy yet spacious and with everything one might need for any length of stay. The adjacent roof top deck is great; the ideal place to view the entire city outside.

When we arrived from our long trip from Italy we were apprehensive about the four flights of stairs mentioned in the description, since we are not exactly young, however, the stairs were after all never a problem and quite easy to climb indeed.

We were greeted by Carolina who kindly walked us through all the aspects of the apt and gave us advice about negotiating the city, neighborhood and insight into the local restaurants. In the apt. there were several tour guides and a helpful, specially prepared and neatly ordered, book with menus of the local restaurants.

The neighborhood of Marina neighborhood is fantastic! Residential and orderly, quiet, clean, yet very lively with plenty of shops and restaurants of any style and for every budget. In addition, it is well served with buses that reach every part of town in a short period of time.

We spent a wonderful vacation, also thanks to the kindness of the owner who was charming, quick and detailed in responding to all our questions and made our stay special.

Our SF dream come true!

  • 5 of 5
No matter in which direction you turn, daylight or moonlight, the beauty of SF is before you: GG Bridge, Museum of Fine Arts, SF skyline. This roof top studio has it all!
The roof patio outside your door is common area, but in the two weeks we were there it felt it was just ours. We enjoyed most of our lunches al fresco and many nightcaps (patio blankets provided!). The kitchen is well quipped. We prepared at least one meal a day there. Many great stores are nearby on Chestnut and the Sunday Farmer's Market at Ft Mason is a gem!
Endless opportunities for walks around the Museum park, Marina, Presidio and towards the GGB (walked the bridge 3 times). Convenient overnight parking next to the Museum (we only rented a car for a day to Napa and parked overnight). Convenient bus transport nearby (got a week pass). Yes, it is 4 stories up, but we benefited from the exercise!
The unit is large, comfortable, clean with a large bathroom, lots of light and fresh air and didn't lack anything we needed. The pulldown bed is comfortable even for a 230 lb, 6'2" person. Also area is very quiet and safe. You're in SF without all the hustle and bustle. The owner is very caring and friendly and her associate, who met us, was very nice and helpful.
Overall, would we come back? We just can't wait!

Location! Views! Lovely and comfortable, large studio apartment.

  • 5 of 5
This apartment is modern, immaculate and tastefully decorated. The location in the Marina district is very convenient and walkable to the waterfront, Chestnut and Lombard Streets, restaurants and shopping. The Palace of Fine Arts is 1/2 block away and is one of the 3 major views you have out of the 3 large picture windows that surround the living area. It is also a wonderfully serene and picturesque place to visit-don't miss it. When lit up at night, it is spectacular. You can also see the Golden Gate out of 2 of the windows and the other view is the entire San Francisco doesn't get better than that.

The owner is very pleasant and detail oriented and follows up extremely well. She covers everything and is extremely responsive.

This is a 4th floor walk up with no elevator, so keep this in mind.

The furniture and bed were very comfortable. The photos on the VRBO site are very accurate. We cooked in the well-equipped kitchen a couple of times and we had everything we needed. All of the plumbing etc. worked well.

If you want to ride bikes on a flat surface this is the area for you. There are many places to rent bikes. We rented at Ft. Mason and then rode along the bay on the bike/walking path to the base of the Golden Gate. From there you can ascend a hill (by foot or bike) and ride/walk on the Golden Gate. We opted to lock our bikes by the "Warming Hut" at the base of the bridge and walk up the hill on the Golden Gate to enjoy the views. If bikes are not for you, then just walk along the waterfront and Crissy Field (and onto the bridge).

Marina Market on Chestnut is great for supplies. Also great farmer's markets on Sunday at Ft. Mason and Saturday at Ferry Building - check them out!

There is a rooftop deck equipped with table/comfortable chairs where you can also enjoy the views and the sunsets which can be spectacular. This deck is on the 4th floor and is 2 steps from the apt. When we were there we were the only ones using it.

You really don't need a car here, but we did see some spots available. There is a bus that stops on the corner at Broderick (#30). We bought passes MUNI at Walgreens. you can get a 1, 2 or 3 day (consecutive) pass. Then you won't have to come up with exact change for the busses and trollies. Just study the Muni map and ask questions of the drivers and others and you will get around fine.

We highly recommend this property and will be the first place we check when we return.

Not a one bedroom but a true studio

  • 4 of 5
We just returned from our trip and stay in this studio apartment. I was shocked when we arrived and we were shown around and shown a murphy bed as the main bed. The many times I read the description all I saw was one bedroom and missed the studio part. So I feel it is misleading and should just read studio. But other than that it is a great location with a great view. The deck is not attached to the apartment and is shared by the rest of the building. We never had a chance to use the deck because it was always too windy and since it was across the hall from the apartment it made it less convenient. The apartment was well stocked and clean. They do request that you do laundry such as sheets and towels before you leave which was a first for us in a VRBO. We have had to start the dishwasher but never do the laundry. So I just hope the people before use did a good job with the laundry.

Owner's Response: Elizabeth, It is disheartening that you were less than pleased. Having emailed you after your arrival and receiving absolutely no acknowledgement from you, it seemed everything was satisfactory. At the risk of sounding defensive, I find the review disingenuous, at best. Please note exact words which you state that you 'missed,' directly from listings (HOMEAWAY and VRBO): ‘Marina District STUDIO Rental Photos and Description,’ ‘Spacious Penthouse STUDIO with 360’ Panoramic Views for 1-2 adults only,’ ‘Property type: STUDIO.’ Yet, you somehow find the description 'misleading.' To be clear regarding access to the deck: as you know, there is absolutely no ‘hall,’ but a very small 1-person landing, exactly one step across from the studio's entry. I am sorry you found that one step ‘less convenient.' Oh, also sorry that it was 'too windy' - weather can be such a bummer, can't it? As fellow VRBO-users, we are often asked to start the laundry; in fact, re-read the contract that YOU SIGNED six months prior to arrival, allowing plenty of time for you to ponder one load of laundry: ‘Departure morning, towels and bathmat are to be laundered.’ Perhaps that balances the fact that we did not ask you to start the dishwasher, which has been your past VRBO experience! Hopefully, you and John otherwise enjoyed a wonderful vacation in San Francisco.

A great place to stay

  • 5 of 5
The apartment is situated in a lovely part of San Francisco. The area is quiet with Chestnut St & Lombard St just a few blocks away with shops & restaurants to cover all needs for when you want to stay local.

The apartment itself is a good size, clean & extremely well equipped. the large windows make it nice & light, airy, and the views are amazing.

The owner is also very friendly, with excellent communication both before & during the stay, making sure we had everything we needed & there were no problems.

I would highly recommend staying here.
