Cabin, Studio + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

This is Clint Eastwood's town, best known for being dog-friendly and its world-class vineyards.

Hidden away in the woods, our rustic cabin is like a treehouse with all the amenities . . minutes from downtown, beaches and a tennis court around the corner.

ASK ABOUT OUR TWO-NIGHT SPECIAL: Book two nights and receive a discount on the nightly rate (offer good through December 2015 for two nights only with exceptions being the Pebble Beach AT&T Golf Tournament; the Concours d'Elegance; and, New Year's Eve ). Let me know first before actually booking and I'll manually enter the special rate of $120/night instead of $130.

Bringing your precious Fido? No problem . . . Carmel is a pet-friendly mecca for dog owners. The main beach is set up to allow for off-the-leash walks and many restaurants in town have set aside an area for dog owners. As a courtesy to our other guests, we ask that pets not be left unattended and not be allowed on chairs or the bed. Pet bedding and food bowls are to be supplied by our guests. We can also arrange pet sitters. We do charge an additional fee of $25/pet per visit as well which will be calculated manually.

You'll find our cabin is . . . Simple. Comfortable. Cozy (250 sq ft) and Quiet -- plus minutes from downtown and spectacular white sand beaches. Decorated with a local artist's work in addition to a few quirky collectibles, the bungalow overlooks the Pebble Beach Forest Reserve in a quiet residential neighborhood, but you'll find yourself very close to all the Peninsula has to offer.

We provide a modest Continental breakfast to get you started in the morning . . . coffee, tea, fruit, yogurt and biscotti! No kitchen is available, but there is a microwave, small refrigerator, kettle, coffee pot and toaster. You'll be located on the same property as our family home, totally separate and 50 steps from the main house. We're long-time residents, knowledgeable about the area and able to help you find some of the many unique spots guidebooks don't mention. A third person (preferably a child as the futon folds out on the floor) may be accommodated on a very thick futon ($25/visit). We are Pet Friendly and hope you'll bring along your Fido as well.

If you're visiting California's central coast for the first time, you'll find Carmel and the surrounding area an idyllic haven boasting nearly 100 miles of spectacular shoreline - described as the 'greatest meeting of land and sea.' The unbridled beauty of Carmel and Monterey County's landscape and the mild, year-round weather offer endless opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Family-centered activities abound and there truly is something for everyone.

About the Owner

My brother and I live on the property in the main house built by my father back in the early 60's. We're both artists - Tom being involved in woodworking and I am a textile-printer-painter-jeweler (yes, I know, too many things to do any very well). We're both in love with Carmel, Tom especially, as he's been able to live here all his life. Our grandparents lived in Carmel, too, just before the Great Depression. My grandmother was even asked to entertain at the Hearst Castle during one of Hearst's grand soirees.

Guestbook comments from the owner

ust the most perfect small cabin in the trees. Shelley has thought of everything. You could self cater here if you kept it simple as there is a toaster, microwave, kettle and coffee maker but it is so close to Carmel and many delightful eateries you will probably be tempted to leave. So quiet and peaceful. It is the best value for money we have encountered. Thank you Shelley.

Wonderful getaway

  • 5 of 5
MaryJo and I (along with Lily, our Corgi pup) thoroughly enjoyed our two nights in this aptly described "treehouse" cabin. Shelley was a lovely person and saw after anything we needed. A problem with the hot water was promptly fixed, and she left fruit and delicious biscotti and coffee for us. The wildlife was a real plus, with hummingbirds as well as several other types, a skunk and a deer all spotted in the area during our stay. It was a perfect launch point close to downtown Carmel with easy access to the beach and Monterey. Some very interesting architecture in the area (check out the "owl house" a couple doors down and the "boat" house next to Shelley's which she believed was done by one of Frank Lloyd Wright's students. We will be back, hopefully as regulars.

Relaxing and inviting

Thank you both for the wonderful stay. We loved the property and the running stream in the morning. Waking up to the beautiful view of the wooded area was fantastic. Carmel was fantastic, and it was great to bring back some cheese and wine and sit on the patio. Thank you for wonderful weekend!

Loved the forest cottage!

  • 5 of 5
We just loved this little cottage for it's privacy, quiet and location. The neighborhood is awash with Carmel's typical charming architecture and landscaping. Shelly was hospitable and accomodating without infringing on our privacy (which is very important to my husband). The cabin itself was small but spotless, with all the amenities promised in the description. We especially loved sitting on the private deck with a mug of coffee, overlooking the forest. The stairs down to the cabin are lengthy and would be tricky for the elderly, although the walk is lovely and handrails are present throughout. We would stay here again and would recommend this property happily to family and friends; there are few lodgings in the area that provide such a lovely product for such superb value. Thank you, Shelly!

From the Owner

Well, it wasn't us that made that decision. It was our mother. She spent some of the best years of her life here in Carmel. Her father was an artist and dabbler - he painted himself, but also liked to build. The old Wells Fargo in the Valley is one of his creations as well as a couple of houses in Pebble Beach. My mother's family lived in what is now the Carmel Art Association Building on Dolores and we still have one of the old carved, wooden doors you'll find there as well. My grandmother, a great beauty, was a pianist, wrote music, acted in the Forest Theater; AND, was once invited down to the Hearst Castle (we're still not sure if she went by herself or not). Oh, family skeletons!

What is there not to do in Carmel? If you haven't been here before, I'll have a list of things to do that will make your head swim. I must mention, of course, that you might run into any number of movie stars - I saw Clint at Whole Foods one day. I even ran into the former president of Mexico, Vicente Fox. But, aside from tracking all the movie stars, I recommend keeping your visit very simple: just walk. Really, what's a vacation but to just relax and de-compress?
