Under new local property management - enthusiastic and effective customer service provided by our new host Rodrigo (English/Spanish spoken).

At Casas La Selvatica we offer two comfortable homes immersed in the rain forest and surrounded by wildlife, yet only minutes away from a picture perfect beach, grocery store and restaurants. The setting is ideal for couples or families who appreciate the comfort of a home rather than a hotel room. We are located within easy reach of countless low ecological impact recreational activities.

Our property and the surrounding area are home to an incredible array of wildlife: you will most likely watch howler monkeys in their search for food, toucans or sloths right from the comfort of the patio. The homes are located minutes away from a couple of the most picturesque palm fringed beaches in the Caribbean. Your hostess will be available to assist with information about the area, bookings for activities/tours and offer detailed attention to your comfort throughout your vacation.

Accommodation: Built with natural hardwood and decorated with lively Caribbean touches, including eclectic local art and tile mosaics, Casa Grande features two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, large outdoor dining area, bathroom with hot shower and a frog pond to watch the conservation of some endangered species of frogs.

The home has two bedrooms and two dens, comfortably accommodating up to five people in two double and one single bed. We offer the following, along with your accommodation:

- bilingual hosts (English/Spanish) available to provide information and assistance as needed;

- laundry service is included for vacations of minimum 7 days;

- high speed wireless internet for your devices;

- lock box for secure storage of valuables;

- transportation, tours and activities booking

- on-site therapeutic or relaxing massages provided by qualified physiotherapist are available - please inquire with your host or with us during booking.

We would love to customize your vacation according to your needs. If you are celebrating a special occasion or would like to pleasantly surprise a loved one, we can provide additional services as required bottle of wine awaiting your arrival and/or local handmade organic chocolates, etc.) or arrange for a romantic dinner or spa package before your arrival.

Please contact us even if the calendar indicates that the property is not available for your desired vacation dates - changes happen frequently and we cannot guarantee that the calendar is updated at all times. In case this home might not perfectly suit your vacation needs, please ask us about our one bedroom home, Casa Mango located on the same property.

Tours and Activities: There are many wonderful activities to do in between the rain forest and in the sea. From guided wildlife watching, zip-lining through the tree canopies, hiking or biking to cooking, dancing and other thrilling adventures, there are activities sure to fit into your ideal tropical vacation plans.

We aim to assist you with your travel planning and make your vacation seamless. Please let us know if you would like to receive information or bookings for transportation from San Jose airport, or booking of tours and activities. We are able to offer discounted rates for activities, due to our collaboration with the local tour providers.

About the Owner

Our journey south was meant to be a temporary escape from the dark and rainy Canadian West Coast, in search of sunshine and warmth. After a brief search for a potential destination and keeping in mind that we desired nothing of an all inclusive resort, we quickly realized that one can have it all... in Costa Rica (Rich Coast)! As so many times before, we chose the off-beaten path...the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica was awaiting to be discovered! What a great surprise: not only did we get some rays and experienced the vibrant culture, but it all came with the most spectacular backdrop. The surroundings were magical! Lush green rain-forest filled with beautiful flowers, and wildlife otherwise only known to us from colourful atlases. There was a positive energy which we just could not get away from. After this first impression, a spark led to a dream and the dream became a plan...With the much appreciated help and support from our friends and families our new journey started at the end of 2009. We are delighted to be able to share our homes with our guests, and will assist as much as possible prior and during your trip to ensure a memorable experience.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We very much appreciated the house at Casa selvatica.It is very well located near Playa Chiquita (less than 10 min walk) and having a small supermarket nearby is very convenient. The tropical style of the house makes you feel on holidays immediately. We had very good contacts and warm welcome by our hosts.

Quiet and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5
Selvatica was perfect! The listing is very accurate. The location is nicely situated near cute and delicious restaurants, as well as Playa Chiquita. Playa Chiquita was our favorite beach so it was nice that it was the closest. The best part of the area IMO is the lack of other tourists, at least while we were there. On the beach or even at restaurants, it was always quiet except for the sounds you want to hear - the jungle and howler monkeys!
The property was clean and Rodrigo, the current manager, was the nicest, most helpful local we met! (He's originally from Spain.) He gave us tips on what to see and do but also gave us privacy. He offered to do laundry and got out bikes and snorkel gear daily for us to use. (I didn't realize these were included in the rental, but they were!) We didn't rent a car, but most areas/attractions are walkable or bikeable.
I definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting a private, quiet getaway.
The journey to and from San Jose is rough, but worth it. That's why it's not as crowded on the Caribbean side.
The Jaguar Rescue was a highlight. We got to handle baby monkeys and learn a lot about all of the wildlife that surrounded us while we were there.
We took a short tour, which ended up being just my girlfriend and I, to a Bribri reservation where they made hot chocolate from scratch - it probably ruined powder and starbucks hot chocolate forever. It was amazing!
It was just my girlfriend and I, so we had plenty of space inside the property. We never even used the other room, and there was a fold out couch.
The porch, as you can see in the pictures, is great for lounging in two hammocks and eating breakfast with the frogs and monkeys in the mornings.
For restaurants, Pura Gula and Selvin's were ridic good! Koki Beach in Puerto Viejo is touristy but it was delicious. Lot's of places take cards and dollars too, which saved us a few times.
You can't not have a great time here!

perfect honeymoon getaway!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I spent a week here on our honeymoon. This house was lovely - the pictures don't do it justice! The location was perfect, just off the main road surrounded by jungle. There was a soda (corner store) minutes down the road, with everything you could need. It was clean, spacious, and the house manager was fantastic! He was super friendly and was able to answer all of our questions - it was great to have a translator for several phone calls and scheduling we had to arrange! We cooked most mornings in the kitchen, and often spent evenings or hot afternoons out on the hammocks. The house is just a quick bike ride away from Puerto Veijo, and even closer to some of the most beautiful beaches on the coast. If we have the chance to return to Costa Rica, we will be staying here again for sure!

Quiet, exactly as pictured, great hosts!

We stayed in Casa Grande, we really liked the location. Easy, short walk to the beach, and a very convenient store at the end of the laneway. The house was exactly as is pictured on the website, and the hosts were welcoming and helpful. Plenty of good restaurants in walking distance!

Great Value - Great Property

  • 4 of 5
Had the pleasure of staying for 2 days at Casa Grande - the house was perfect for our family of 4. We loved the table on the patio and spent both nights out there, playing games while enjoying the sound of the frogs. Saw an abundance of green parrots, spiders, and a few toucans in the mornings. The house was very clean and comfortable. Berni was there to meet us and show us around - a very, very nice and helpful young man. Location was ideal with everything within walking distance. Daniel was extremely helpful with helping us with our last minute request and very responsive. If we were to come to this area again, we would definitely stay here!

We Will Be Back!!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed January 12-January 18, 2013 in this lovely secluded Casas. This was the best trip I have experienced to this day. The grounds of the house are beautiful!! We utilized the back porch anytime we were there. The sounds morning, day, and night are of those on a CD you pay for. Daniel, the owner, was absolutely wonderful on information for planning our stay. I could only wish this were my home in Costa Rica!!!! Definitely bring flashlights, as we used these every night to navigate back to the house. The house and property are very well maintained with our favorite dog who came to visit and talk to us daily :) Casas La Selvatica stole a piece of my heart and we cannot wait to return. The wonderful experiences we aquired from this stay, you would NEVER get at a resort. I cannot say THANK YOU enough Daniel!!
The house is right around the corner from our favorite restaurant Alice's, and recommend taking the kayaking tour with Andy Cook (a local cook at Alice's). This house is located within walking distance to wonderful restaurants rated high on trip advisor. The variety of beaches are within a bike ride and easy to get to. Manzanillo is a must visit with BEAUTIFUL scenery. There is a convient store right down the lane from the house and the owner speaks tons of different languages. Great location!!

The best house in the rainforest!

  • 4 of 5
This was my first experience renting a house via internet and it worked out so well. The photos grabbed my attention and they reflected exactly what the house is like. We spent 2 fabulous weeks there with our 3 boys and we all loved it! The garden and the forest surrounding the house are simply beautiful and so rich. We could look at howler monkeys right from the porch and many birds too. At sunset, the sounds of the rainforest started with frogs... we could see them everywhere around the house with our flashlights.On the small path leading to the beach we encountered many lizards and monkeys. The beach itself was great. Fun waves, small coves safe for swimming and not very crowded.
The bikes are great to get around (you can sit your child on the handlebars no problem here!). We went everywhere between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo. For chocolate lovers, check out Carribeans in Cocles. We did an interesting tour of the farm and tasted different chocolates...yummy! The wildlife refuge is worth seeing especially with kids.
The house itself was spacious enough for the 5 of us and the outdoor dining room is the place to hang out and relax. The owners were very kind and quick to answer our concerns or fix any problems.They were also very helpful during the planning of our trip with their suggestions, hints and references. Thanks to them for making part of our trip a success!
We would definitely return or recommend this place to our friends and family.

From the Owner

Dear travelers, We visited the Southern Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica for the first time just in 2009. Even before our vacation ended, we knew that we had just found a special place which would become our home one day. After relentlessly working on finding our dream home, we stumbled upon La Selvatica and literally fell in love at first sight. We are excited to share our home with you, open minded fellow travelers, and are convinced that you will soon discover your own reasons to love this place, and the reasons it was called 'The Coast of Utopia' by reputable travel journals. Happy travels! Daniel & Jeff Carlton Mitroi
