Charming, comfortable home in a quiet neighborhood

  • 5 of 5
We really enjoyed our stay! The house has been well renovated keeping the original hardwood floors, while opening up the floor plan and adding beautiful new finishes and world-traveler decor. The location was quite convenient - close the freeway and Claiborne making the French Quarter easy to get to. Very close to Tulane and we enjoyed the Oak Street neighborhood (very close) with shops and a fabulous bakery. Uptown shops and restaurants are also close.

We are a family of 4 with 2 teens. The master bedroom has a lovely back patio with comfy furniture and master bathroom (great tub and shower head). Our son took the den pullout and daughter took a sofa. Nicely equipped kitchen.

We would recommend this place for convenience, comfort and condition.

Great Place and Location Outstanding

  • 5 of 5
We stayed the July 4th weekend and had an amazing time! This is a nice home convenient to the trolley that will take you right down in the heart of the city. Also a Walgreen's where you can purchase your trolley pass. A grocery store if you are in the mood for cooking. Burger King if you want something on the go. There's a park near by with an area for kids to play or you can have a picnic. There's a beautifully maintained backyard with a nice sitting area. A lovely living space.

There are things that I believe the owner should have disclosed in advance especially since you can't get a refund if you cancel...

1. This home is lived in daily so you are actually in someone's personal living space, among their personal things (it felt a little strange)
2. A pet lives in this house (a person with pet allergies needs to know)
3. Check-in and check-out go without any direct interaction with owner (it would have been nice to get a walk through and introduction to appliances by someone who knows & uses the items daily)
4. The sofa bed in the second bedroom is past its last days (no good sleeping here & there's pet dander)

These things are important and could possibly help a renter decide if they want this place. The home is beautiful and served its purpose. I had a roof over my head and somewhere to shower with hot water.

Owner's Response: It is unfortunate that this guest seemed to love my place yet still felt the need to point out some negatives, so I feel the need to respond. The sofa sleeper is only a year old (!) and I have never had one other complaint. I have slept on it myself more than once and found it perfectly fine. As for pet dander, I do accept doggie guests and I have no control over where they sleep but I assure you, I have the place THOROUGHLY cleaned before each and every new guest arrives.

I do live in the house part time, but most people have found it very homey and very much enjoyed the experience, liking the fact that it has ALL the comforts of home. I do work full time and therefore do not generally meet the guests at the home, but am happy to do so upon request. I leave a full set of instructions as to how everything works and let every guest know that they can call me at ANY time for ANY reason. I do this as a convenience to guests, so that they do not have to wait until night time for me to go and let them in.

Home away from Home!

  • 5 of 5
What a great place. This historic newly renovated home located in the uptown area is convenient to everything and is as advertised. The owner Jackie is a very trusting person. She really offers a home away literally. I have never stayed in a vacation rental where the owner packs a bag and moves out for your stay. This truly gives you the feel of staying in a home. Please note that closet space is a bit limited due to the home owners extensive wardrobe. We are hoping to stay again in Jackie's wonderful home.

By Far Our Best Vacation in New Orleans!

  • 5 of 5
My family and I fly down to New Orleans every year to visit our family and last year we started renting homes for our stay so we feel more settled. Staying in Jacques home by far exceed our expectations in feeling like New Orleans residents. The wonderful private backyard was perfect for all times of the day, we ate most of our meals outdoors. The queen bed was very comfortable and the jacuzzi tub was the icing on the cake. The house was stocked with anything and everything we needed and we were as happy as can be! Leaving was certainly bitter-sweet as we starting feeling accustomed to this homely place.. Thanks Jacques!!

Good place to stay when you want to visit Nola.
The house got everything you need; public transport within 200 yards and a great veranda to lounge. Near Oakstreet in a good neighborhood.

Great Vacation!

  • 5 of 5
My boys and I went to New Orleans for the first time and stayed here. The location was great! We were two blocks from the bus and streetcars, one from a great park and in walking distance from everything would could want. We felt very safe as a family in the area.
The house itself was great. Very clean and homey. It had everything and more that we could need. And the back yard and covered porch was fabulous! Every night when we got home the boys had plenty of room to throw a football and me to relax and have a drink.
I would suggest this home to everyone and I will be planning another stay soon!

Location

From the Owner

My house is nestled amongst the beautiful oak trees that have made Uptown New Orleans famous, right across the street from Palmer Park, where you can catch the street car and head toward the French Quarter or, if you're in a hurry, there's also a cab stand or the bus stop just across the park. If you want the real feel of living in New Orleans in it's most sought-after neighborhood, in a real historic Victorian home, then The Dubliner is for you!

New Orleans is a city unlike any other. Its historic architecture, history (even haunted history), the French Quarter, Uptown, Audubon Park, City Park, several famous universities and unique food and cultural have made us famous world-wide. We offer some of the most famous festivals in the world; including Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest and French Quarter Fest, but we celebrate EVERYTHING! There’s a festival honoring someone or something nearly every weekend. But chances are what you’ve heard most about are our food and music and we have plenty of them both all over the city. We have thousands of restaurants, hundreds of music clubs and hundreds more just plain ol’ bars. We love our “cocktails,” which, (did you know?) were invented here! We’re known as “The Big Easy” for good reason: if you can’t relax and have fun here, you may as well stay home!

Amenities

From the Owner

I allow dogs (sorry, no cats - don't ask) and there's a doggie door and a great backyard for them - and you! Definitely plan to spend at least a little time enjoying the gorgeous 30' x 10' back porch; there's an outside seating group to use as a den, or take your dinner outside (after preparing it in my fantastic huge gourmet kitchen or get it from Robert's grocery down the block, or, heck - take it out if you want from one of the many, many restaurants within walking distance of the house on Carrollton Avenue or Oak Street). Need an office while you're away? I've got that covered, too: full office with computer, printer, copier and fax. Or bring your own laptop and use the wi-fi.
