Urban Tree House

Urban Tree House

Overview

Property Details

Updated: Nov 21, 2014
1 bedroom, 2 story home nestled under tall maples and stately cedars

This urban Tree House is private and secluded, yet only 10 miles from downtown Seattle and minutes away from Lake Washington. Custom-designed to take advantage of its unique environment, the house sits in a ravine slightly below road level, surrounded on all sides by western red cedars and big leaf maples, providing ease of access with the privacy of a natural, leaf-shaded canopy. In this woodsy location, the Tree House’s contemporary design inside and outside emphasizes its location in a setting that is both rural and urban, the perfect blend for experiencing Seattle.

Simplicity is an art, and one that is needed when traveling. The Tree House does a good job of keeping the space clean, uncrowded and functional, yet architectural features such as high ceilings, large windows and exposed overhead beams supply a calming sense of space as well. Coupled with all the amenities needed for comfortable stay of a week or longer, this Seattle Tree House is the perfect home port for your return at night, or a quiet place to chill during the day.

**The Urban Tree House was featured in the National travel show 'Sweet Retreats', one of three homes in the Seattle area. To view the half hour segment, click on the link below. It was an honor to to be chosen.

About the Owner

I've spent my life (50+ years), living and working right here in Seattle. Having taken advantage of what this area offers with a plethora of outdoor activities, moderate 4 seasons, and urban amenities, I'm constantly surprised that there is so much that I've yet done/discovered. I've put my heart and soul into this little piece of property (literally), custom designing it to take full advantage of the site. I hope it will become an important part of your Seattle experience, allowing you to enjoy the great Northwest the way the big guy upstairs intended it to be experience.

a TREEmendous experience

  • 5 of 5
... the treehouse was an awesome experience, hidden and secluded between the trees, it was the perfect setting for our romantic getaway. the building standard is fantastic, and it really gives you all you need for a few days away from home. upstairs you´ll find a complete kitchen, a nice little lounge area and a great terrace where you can enjoy your meal in the fresh air : )

downstairs you´ll find the bedroom, in a cozy orange color theme, with a nice bathroom, and not to forget the most important thing, the jacuzzi, nothing beats the feeling of sitting there in the dark with your loved one, and just enjoying the moment and quietness.

we loved the place, and have already booked our return :-) ...

Perfect place to stay for the week while visiting Seattle. The urban tree house is perfectly thought out and has everything. We enjoyed relaxed mornings and evenings and appreciated being able to do laundry and soak in the hot tub at night!
Kirk is a great host
We will definitely stay there again when we visit.

great hideaway

  • 5 of 5
We stumbled upon the tree house when we needed a rental on short notice. The owner was incredibly accommodating and we checked in that night.

The house is small but amazing. Full kitchen, laundry, bathroom, bedroom, hot tub... all decorated wonderfully and tastefully.

If you're looking for a classy, nice, cozy place to stay run by a genuinely nice person, I highly recommend you stay here.

Wonderful Honeymoon

  • 5 of 5
This property was amazing and we had the most wonderful honeymoon anyone could ask for. It was crazy busy and I have to admit that we did not get to spend much time at the home due to our adventures in the city. The home was beautiful, exactly as described. As soon as we arrived we unpacked an got settled in and the home was fully stocked on all of the basics needed for our stay, all we had to do was stock the fridge with the food basics and we were good to go. We would spend all day in the city and get to come back to a nice, quiet, relaxing place and the best part was the hot tub. After waking downtown 10-12 miles a day it was so exciting to go back to soak for a while and rest our muscles. Very beautiful setting, very sweet cats that really do get the point if you just ignore them they will go back to the owners home but we are animal people so it was kind of nice to have them visit on an off through the week that we were there. The owner even has an electric bbq for the use of the tenants to use which was nice, overall it was an amazing stay and I could go on and on all day about it. Bottom line, we plan to go back and would recommend it to anyone we know.

Owner's Response: I am glad you mentioned the cats. They are a brother/sister team, 3 1/2 years old, that love roaming the woods. They will be the first to greet you, love to be pet and feed, but know when they've over stayed their welcome. Unfortunately the Orange tabby has a fibro sarcoma and her time is limited. In spite of her large mass, she's still loving life, and with her daily pain medication she's doing surprisingly well. I hope she gets to enjoy the summer as this place is truly her hunting grounds as well as her place of employment (greeter). Both Doola and Rupert are loved.

Adorable place!

We were so grateful that you had a last-minute cancellation and could accommodate us for a few nights. The apartment was lovely, exactly as described (the detailed directions really helped). Perfect location and lots of amenities in the kitchen. The only small thing I would recommend is a porch light. :) Thank you for the charming place; would definitely stay here again!

Owner's Response: I'm glad you had a wonderful time. There actually are several porch lights, you may have missed them. There is one at the upstairs door, one at the lower door, and there's a motion light at the parking spot that is triggered when you drive in. Regardless, it sounds like this didn't take away from you enjoying the Tree House. Cheers!

Urban Tree House

  • 5 of 5
Fantastic location, Kirk was very accommodating and a fantastic host, reading the morning paper by the creek with a fire (all wood supplies provided) was such a wonderful way to start each day. Starbucks a mere 2 blocks away. I have one very minor complaint. Between the bedroom door and the hot tub it's gravel. A few paver blocks or exterior carpets would be very welcome on your bare feet. Otherwise, perfectamundo.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I appreciate suggestions, you are correct, I've used the hot tub and my "tender feet" had a hard time on the gravel. I like your idea and will run up to Home Depot to pick up a few pieces of flag stone; not sure why I didn't think of this!

Location

From the Owner

This property gives a very unique Northwest experience. Seattle is full of little gems tucked away, not many available to the traveler to live in. My property is located in a deep ravine listed as a Critical Environmental Area. Although the Tree House is close to the road, it's still buried amongst the towering trees, giving it the privacy a thick Northwest forest provides. Walk to the back of my property and you're overwhelmed by the acres of untouched nature and year-round creek; truly a calming environment. There are not many areas you can be in the “woods” and still be in the heart of the city, 10 minutes (on a good commute, 20 on a bad) from downtown.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Seatac at 22 Miles Nearest Barpub : Elliott Bay Brewery, highly recommended at 0.5 Miles Nearest Ferry : Downtown terminal, 9 miles. Edmonds terminal, 11 at 9 Miles Nearest Golf : Jackson Public Course at 2 Miles Nearest Train : King Street Station at 9 Miles Nearest Motorway : I-5 at 2 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Tons easily within walking distance at 0.5 Miles Nearest Ski : Snoqualmie Pass, 60 miles. Stevens Pass, 72 miles at 60 Miles Nearest Beach : Seatac at 2 Miles Car: recommended

Well located for exploring the city, or as a jumping-off point for exploring the surrounding area. For those wanting to experience Seattle like the locals do, the Burke-Gilman bike and walking trail is an easy mile from your home. The trail connects to countless others, taking you to the wine country of Woodinville and Redmond, the sand beaches of Golden Gardens, boat rentals at the University of Washington, or touring neighborhoods throughout the city. Lake City has its farmers market on Thursdays, a great place to stock up on fresh produce, meat, and flowers, or to get a bite from one of many food vendors. Many neighboring areas have farmers markets on other days throughout the week. Seattle has so many festivals, events and activities to enjoy year-round, and this location provides easy access. Just step out and explore!

Bathrooms

  • 1 Bathroom

  • The bathroom is fun. It's compact, but because of its high ceilings it doesn’t feel cramped. It has a full-size shower and plenty of floor space to move around and dry off on the black tile floor.

Bedrooms

  • 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 2
  • Bedroom 1 - 1 queen
  • The bedroom is on the lower floor. It has a queen bed, european pillow-top mattress (we personally picked it, trying to replicate an amazing sleep experience we enjoyed on a vacation in Cancun). Your choice of down comforter or blanket, down or fiber-filled pillows. We really tried to make it luxurious. It has a small closet, a six-drawer dresser and plenty of storage for luggage and more under the lift-and-store platform bed. Cable TV, alarm clock with 2 USB ports for phone charging, clock radio, his-and-her reading lamps. The bedroom is the only room that has a privacy shade for the window (go figure!).
