Check in seems a little glitchy as you have to get the keys at a nearby campsite. Even though we advised what time we’d be there, no one was around and no one picked up the phone when we called upon arrival. It all worked out, but a few “now what?!” moments.
This is definitely a cute little cottage. They’ve done a good job with a small building. Space wise, two couples on vacation would be pushing it. Air conditioning was awesome. Bell Internet was great. New appliances (stove & fridge) - also great. The bathroom seemed newly done and the shower stall was spacious and gets two thumbs up.
Just FYI, there is no room to put groceries. Every cupboard and drawer is packed. So many pots and pans that they even filled the oven. Huge aluminum foil roasters, an old George Foreman grill, on and on. So that’s great, if you need to pour 20 cups of coffee (I counted the mugs) or if you need 7 mostly melted spatulas all at once. ;o) One wine glass, but lots of plastic cups from the 70s. We had to leave all of our dry goods (snacks, crackers, potatoes, onions, sugar, peanut butter, breads, etc. in Rubbermaid bins in the second bedroom). One good go through by someone with some common sense would eliminate the unnecessary kitchen stuff and create some storage space for renters!
The bedrooms are far too narrow for night tables but a corner shelf on each side of the bed would help with somewhere to put eyeglasses or a water glass, or a book when nodding off.
Be aware that although not stated in the VRBO listing, you have to bring drinking water (which, once we saw the hose out in the shallow, murky, weed filled pond, we also used for coffee, washing vegetables and brushing our teeth) It’s mentioned in the info sheet you get once you book. But once you get there, there’s no water cooler to dispense the water if you buy a 5 gallon jug. So buy a pump, too.
The BBQ worked, but was a shambles. Hopefully that’s next on the list for replacement.
No swimming here. Although shallow (~2’ at the end of the dock), there’s a good foot of mud in the lakebed and the water is completely weedy. Weeds growing and weeds floating. Messy for the boat motor. The dock is narrow (not suitable for sitting) and FYI has no cleats for your boat ropes. The public boat launch is just up the shoreline, so it’s quite convenient.
Otter Lake is great, we enjoyed our days out on the water. We enjoyed our stay & had a good week overall. Thanks Brett!
