Stardust cottage sits at end of the road in a beautiful farming valley 30 minutes outside of Asheville. Comfortably sleeps six in soft white sheets & down comforters (two queen, twin & trundle). Light & airy- windows everywhere, wood floors, & high ceilings! Enjoy gentle breezes, bubbling creeks, & bright stars while relaxing on the porch swing.

Come visit Stardust Cottage when you're ready to relax and enjoy your time in the mountains! Just updated in 2013 with you in mind. The kitchen is stocked with quality cookware. We welcome children with toys and games for all ages. Escape from your television, but enjoy streaming shows on your computer. Our high speed wireless internet will keep you connected if you desire.

Outside amenities include a bubbling creek, safety-netted trampoline, and plenty of room to run, keeping children busy for hours! Chill out in our shady hammock. Relax on our covered porch in one of our rocking chairs or on our porch swing while you take in the mountain views. Enjoy the flowers in our garden, or pick herbs for your dinner. If you are here during the cooler fall months, enjoy a cozy fire in the woodstove (we have gas heat, as well). You'll have access to miles of hiking trails right outside our door. Admire a sky full of stars at night, and then fall asleep with the gentle mountain breeze and the sound of the creeks outside.

Quiet and private, our neighbors are not visible or close to the house. You'll need a car- Stardust Cottage is nestled 'back in the holler'!

We will leave you to enjoy the peace and privacy we love about this property. We live in Asheville and can assist you by email, phone or in person, if needed. Welcome to the Appalachian mountains!

About the Owner

Hi! I love meeting new people and trying new things- especially food and travel. I rehab houses, and enjoy the challenge of real estate investing. I've lived in the Asheville area since my college years, have a great husband and two kids. Western North Carolina is very community-minded and I like to get involved in helping make our wonderful place to live even better. Our family enjoys hiking the trails and cooling off in the streams in the summer, and then catching the incredible vistas on the way home.

A wonderful retreat

  • 3 of 5
This is a beautiful property. The owner was accommodating. There were some issues that should be addressed. The internet requires babysitting to be useful. I work remotely, and was getting 512Kbps speeds. After resetting the modem and router, I was able to see 1.5Mbps. I wasn't able to do VOIP conference calling, and screen sharing was out of the question.

The only bathroom is upstairs. Good for middle of the night visits, bad for middle of the day visits. The bathroom had two receptacles, neither one GFCI. Do not use electrical appliances in this bathroom.

The outdoor hammock and the trampoline were dry rotting. The tramp was amazingly fun though, but it will need to be replaced in a few more seasons.

You really need a 4WD vehicle to reach the cottage.

It was worth staying, and we really did enjoy the retreat. No TV or DVD player, so be sure to plan around that.

Overall, we enjoyed the cottage and loved this introduction to western North Carolina.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately, this reviewer gave a bad review because he was not honest about the number of people staying, and we took the correct amount ($50 extra) out of his deposit.
There are several factual errors in this review:
1. Both the receptacles in the bathroom are GFCI.
2. The trampoline is safe and in good shape. (the decorative part of the blue poll covers is crackle-ing and is on back order). We check it monthly.
3. The hammock is less than one year old. We check it monthly, and will replace it when needed.
4. A regular car drives easily to Stardust Cottage. We lived there for 11 years, having a Toyota Corolla the entire time. People stay Stardust Cottage with every kind of car and have no problem.
5. The internet was checked just after this guest left and it was 3.0 mbps, the maximum available. Having lived there and working partially from home, we know that Skype works fine, even while someone is streaming Netflix or playing internet intensive games.
We were very attentive to this owner's multiple questions, requests and change of plans. Please let our other reviews- all five stars- give you a more accurate picture of what Stardust Cottage is all about. Thanks!

A place to just get away from it all!

  • 5 of 5
What a great place to just get away from it all! My family, adults, 2 kids (3 & 7yrs old) spent some wonderful family time together playing board games, jumping on the trampoline and exploring. Kama was very helpful and very quick to respond to emails. The cottage itself was a perfect setup and had everything you needed. We will definitely be back!

This cottage was absolutely stunning. We enjoyed the porch swing and spending our nights looking at a sky with an unbelievable amount of visible stars! It was a fantastic experience to be out in the country and feel so far removed but to be so close to the city. Highly recommend!

Wonderful Mountain Cabin

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I, along- with our daughter and son-in-law enjoyed our stay at this well appointed, comfy, clean cabin. Fantastic windows from which to see the beautiful view, nice open floor plan, a delicious soaking tub, comfy beds, books and games, it felt like home. A bottle of juice and half and half left for our coffee, on the first morning were thoughtful touches. I am most impressed with how clean the cabin was - that speaks volumes of the pride the owners take in this home. Great location away from the hustle of Asheville, yet close enough to enjoy the Biltmore, The Blue Ridge, the Smokey Mountains and of course Asheville. We will definitely book again - hopefully in the near future.
P.S. the long windy road getting to the cabin is half the fun and the gravel drive leading to the cabin was a clue to the peacefulness of it's location.

A Perfect Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5
Our family of four enjoyed a truly wonderful weekend getaway here. Quiet, private, surrounded by nature, a well-stocked, smartly-designed and cozy house -- couldn't ask for more. Herb gardens, yuzu and grape trees out front is a big plus, too. We had such wonderful experience staying here, only left the house twice to go into town for a lunch and visit Farmers Market.

Trying to get there for the first time might be a challenge, so definitely print out the directions and check out Google maps in advance.

Kama thought of everything to make her guests feel welcomed -- thank you. We'll recommend staying here to anyone for sure.

The only suggestion I could think of is there's only one bathroom in the whole house and it's on the 2nd floor. That post a big problem for my mom-in-law since she has lower joint conditions and found it extremely difficult to climb the stairs. It'd be so much better to have a half-bath or toilet on the main floor for easy access.

From the Owner

We bought this place as our primary residence and lived here for ten years. We loved it from the minute we saw it and still do! Big Sandymush Valley is best preserved farming valley in the southern Appalachians. Thousands of acres of conservation lands are adjacent to the property, organic farms are abundant here. We moved in to town due to the kids schools, and have just spent several months refreshing everything and making it perfect for guests!

Asheville is a sophisticated small city in a mountain valley in the southeastern United States. It's a very popular and well known tourist area. The city is very walkable with shops, galleries, and restaurants on every corner. Asheville is know for its foodie culture, including lots of vegetarian choices. The varied nightlife scene and many cultural activities and festivals will keep you busy if you like. The area is also known for its many artists and crafts people. Just south of downtown is the Biltmore House; the largest private residence in the USA. The house and its thousands of acres are open to the public. The Blue Ridge parkway also passes through the area. This is an incredibly scenic drive through the national forests in the area, with world class views, and many interesting stops along the way for hiking, picnicking, looking at waterfalls, or frolicking in the cool mountain streams.

Endless opportunities abound for rafting, rock climbing, and backwoods adventures if outdoors is your thing. There are two ski resorts, each about one hour from Stardust Cottage. Golf is also popular in the area. You can choose to be in the middle of the action, and then out in the middle of nowhere 15 min later!

Closer to Stardust cottage are several organic farms, including flowers and a nationally known herb farm. Potters and crafts people live tucked in their beautiful corner of Sandymush Valley.

Don't let our long backwoods private gravel drive fool you... a beautiful modern well appointed cottage awaits at the end!
