Cabin, 5 Bedrooms 2 and a half Baths, (Sleeps up to 13 )

Welcome to historic Camp Custer Log Cabins!

(Sky View) is a 1,860 square foot peaceful, beautiful, historic log cabin. Large enough for groups up to 13, yet cozy enough for smaller ones!

(Sky View) and our other cabin (Pine Crest) were built in the 1930's by the CCC's (Civilian Conservation Corps) They were the Army Officer's quarters of Camp Custer. One may walk across the road and see the foundations of the buildings that were once part of Camp Custer. In all of South Dakota these two ponderosa pine Log Cabins are the only officer’s quarters that remain of the CCC Camp. One of the Cabins (Pine Crest Cabin) in which you will be staying is in the National Register of Historic Sites. The other (Sky View Cabin) is not registered due to a recent addition to the cabin. If you are looking forward to a peaceful relaxing vacation this is the place for you, away from all the hustle and bustle of town. Our Black Hills Cabins/ Vacation Home rentals are Located 7 miles NW of the town of Custer SD, 5 miles W of Crazy Horse Monument and 15 miles from Mt Rushmore in the Black Hills National Forest of South Dakota. We are privately owned on 5 beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota acres. Just across the road on forest service land is a pond that adults as well as children really enjoy!

ALSO CHECK OUT (Pine Crest Cabin) #361985 sleeps up to 7. Great for romantic getaways or in combination with (Sky View Cabin) for larger gatherings!

The following was very eloquently, beautifully and truthfully written by one of our guest at Camp Custer Log Cabins!

Make your vacation mean more than a motel and listening to stranger’s voices in the night! Make it an affordable home away from home, watching eagles soar, savoring peaceful surroundings and so much more!

Imagine adding historic value to your vacation while sleeping in the same cabins once occupied by brave soldiers! What an honor to sit at the same table Colonel Lattimore fashioned with his hands! Imagine waking up to the whistling meadow larks, relishing spectacular sunrises, roaming deer, and other magnificent creatures! The same serenity the soldiers encompassed in the midst of turmoil can now bring peace and order to your busy life! There’s more!

Imagine the hoot of a barn owl and coyote’s distant calls causing you to duck beneath the covers! Snug and warm; you’re drawn to an orange glow on the wooden deck. It’s the harvest moon rising, above the dark hills, in all its glory! Throwing a robe and slippers on, you rush outside to enjoy the rest of the velvet sky, now dazzling with stars! The quiet whoosh of wind, blowing through the spice scented pines trees, sends slight chills down your back. You begin to wonder what beauty remains untapped in the winter season! Loading logs into the fire pit, family and friends join you around the campfire. Coffee, cocoa, snacks, story telling and laughter soon follow. Longing to soak the soothing aura in by yourself, you sit back and smile. These moments are truly meant to be shared. There’s more!

With an ample amount of money still left in your pocket, your car is packed and ready to go, but you’re not. Behind you surely feels like home, a place you’ve found great rest. Ahead is an adventure through the hills. With mixed emotions, you turn to take another look. Spring would surely burst with vibrant wild flowers flowing in the field and up to the rustic log cabins! The baby bird’s chirping would bring smiles to your morning, along with chipmunks rushing up and down the trees! What about the summer? Volleyball, sing-a-longs, relaxing with a good book, legs stretched out, perhaps with no one around. The fall is an absolutely gorgeous array of colors from the ground to the sky! And winter? Building snowmen and snowball fights would revive your youth! How stunning the glitter of the pristine snow in the moonlight would be, equally matched with a passionate night in front of the fireplace!

Treasured moments and lasting memories; it’s a taste of heaven on earth! Yes, you agree, it’s a place to call home away from home! Are we there yet?

Perfect Winter (or summer) Wonderland

  • 5 of 5
Our family just finished a weekend getaway at the Skyview cabin. The history of this place alone makes it absolutely enticing, but that combined with an extremely clean, well-stocked cabin made it an absolutely perfect getaway. So many times we stay in cabins that are missing this, that and the other thing.... not so at Skyview. The owners Teresa & Victor have obviously taken great pains to ensure that your stay is perfect and that you will want for nothing. We really enjoyed the warm, crackling fireplace after a long day skiing. The pillows & beds were Goldilocks "just right". If we had one complaint, it was simply that we didn't have longer to stay. We are already making plans to stay again during our next Black Hills vacation!

Owner's Response: Dear Misty , It was wonderful meeting your family!
We really enjoyed having you stay at Camp Custer Log Cabins. Thank you for the great review and for leaving our home in such beautiful condition!
(The only thing is... we do not accept pets due to so many people having allergies). We look forward to your return!

A FANTASTIC 4th of July Friends Gathering at Custer-Skyview Cabin!

  • 5 of 5
Just wrapped up the 10th Annual 4th of July Friends Gathering at the Custer Cabins (Sky View Cabin). This years gathering included six friends and from all indications everyone was very pleased! A perfect place to catch up after a year. The setting and scenery were excellent and very convenient to all that the Black Hills has to offer. I believe three of the five nights included dinner prepared on the grill (Thanks to the menu planner and chef among the group). It was a real treat to stay in this historic cabin and the the owner (Teresa) was so very attentive and cordial. And you don't even need an alarm clock the Black Angus bulls across the way work just fine!

This is a fantastic place to say. It is very spacious and clean with excellent access to all of Custer's attractions and remote enough for peace and quiet. Teresa is wonderful to work with and SUPER nice and accommodating. I highly recommend this location to anyone.

What a grand way to celebrate family and friends! Beautiful, very clean (as was the other), rustic adventure with modern conveniences! Enough rooms for privacy, enough room to gather! Very impressive! I can't think of a better way to enjoy another vacation with family and friends!

Five stars in every category.

Excellent in every way imaginable. Beautiful location, cabin was clean, modern but rustic, everything we needed was there. Customer service was outstanding - they checked with us several times before and during our stay to make sure everything was okay. A perfect getaway with solitude yet convenient to town and attractions. Perfect for a family.

Couldn't ask for better.

This cabin was so beautiful to come to. We spent a week here in June 2012. After spending the day out sight seeing in the area it was wonderful to come "home" to this beautiful cabin tucked away in the hills. Staying here was one of the best parts of the entire vacation. Even our kids loved the cabin. I was worried they would not like it because there isn't a TV. But I don't think they even noticed. I will definately stay here again when in the area.
4 of the bedrooms are up a few stairs. But otherwise everything is accesible from the main floor. There are no steps to get into the cabin either.
