UNIQUE FARM STAY-Away from noise, pollution & stress @ Rancho Montecito

Overview

Property Details

Updated: Nov 9, 2014
6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, sleeps 4-14

Rancho Montecito is a 250-acre working cattle and fruit farm that has amenities for those who want to escape to nature, families or groups wishing to get together in a spacious outdoor environment. It is the perfect setting to unwind, breathe fresh air and just have a perfect and unique vacation. Those who enjoy hiking, trail riding, bird watching, photography, relaxing and gathering with friends and family by the pool, will experience the best of Costa Rica, (an off the tourist grid vacation-truly unique!!!).

Rancho Montecito farm is located 5 km south off Hwy 27 in the Central Valley, 20 minutes from Atenas, only 45 minutes to the beaches (Jaco, Puntarenas, Herradura) and 35 minutes into San Jose. There are many fabulous day trips that can be enjoyed while using the farmhouse as base. Suggested ideas for day trips would be: a day at the beach, visiting Poas volcano, shopping for souvenirs and visiting an impressively old mill and carpentry shop in Sarchi, Canopy ziplines, Zoo Ave (hospital for wild animals to rehabilitate), San Jose to experience the capital, and there are many more suggestions which we would be happy to help you with.

Included is a 6 bedroom country house with large porch, swimming pool, and Rancho (open air kitchen/dining room), a common room for movies or educational purpose, and lots of terrific hikes. Facilities are fully equipped with linens, laundry, complete kitchen, television, DVD, stereo, internet, Wi-Fi, and games.

About the Owner

I am Canadian born but have lived in other countries all my life. I chose to buy and live in Costa Rica because the country is proud of its natural beauty and environment. With parks, conservations and so much wildlife, it is hard not to love being here. The people are so gentle and kind. The food fresh and 'clean'. There is a calm to life in Costa Rica that makes it such a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy nature. I love to travel and can enjoy 5 star hotels as well as tented safaris. Costa Rica is a blend of both.

Quiet Paradise

  • 5 of 5
Never had I imaged that my first trip to Costa Rica would be so perfect! The morning views were astounding and peaceful with an occasional visit by a toucan, hummingbird, or butterfly. Not only were the mornings memorable but each night I was serenaded by the sweet lullabies of the Costa Rican wildlife. During the day, my son enjoyed swinging and cannon balling into the pool, which happens to be surrounded by paradise. And when swimming was no longer of interest, he played on the ping pong table, watched a movie, or played board games, which were all provided by the farm. The facilities were extremely clean and well-maintained, but most importantly, the staff were extremely professional and helpful. They organized a horseback tour of the farm and provided great suggestions and travel accommodations for other activities like zip lining, water rafting, surfing, and volcano tours. I could not have asked for a more perfect getaway and it was all because of the amazing staff.

5 Star Ranch!

  • 5 of 5
Rancho Montecito far exceeded my expectations! The property is stunning, with a friendly professional staff and breathtaking views. The photos pale in comparison to the actual property and views.

The manager was extremely helpful in helping us navigate our way up and down the Pacific Coast. Management also made excellent recommendations for activities and attractions. The canopy zip- lining, volcano and hot springs did not disappoint!

We plan on returning next summer with a group of friends for an extended stay!

Get here! Now!!! :)))

  • 5 of 5
In one word, this place is: sacred. :)))

I passed out early so I woke up early as the sun was rising.

Made myself some coffee and just sat in a peace that is rare. Everything about this place blows me away. Every detail is insanely beautiful. There is this sweet cinnamony confection smell mixed with fresh wood in the air. The sounds of everything are incredible and soothing. When I woke up everyone was still asleep so I went for a walk and saw a couple of horses grazing on a cliff of the property. I also heard what sounded like water flowing from a nearby creek and saw so many butterflies and amazing little humming birds go from flower to flower. Anyways, I just can't be thankful enough that I found such a place and am staying in something out of a movie or dream. Such a needed change from my workaholic lifestyle back home!!! I'm just blown away how they put this place together!!! Last night, no joke, we barbecued in the clouds :) on the terrace with a 360 view of the mountains and in insanely beautiful open kitchen with nicer appliances than my own home! Then the staff made a bonfire for us we and made smores. Anyways I will stop this essay now but just wanted to to detail this magical getaway so that anyone needing to get away as badly as I did finds this place which is sacred! Already planning on coming back!!!

Rancho Montecito was AMAZING!

  • 5 of 5
For my first time in Costa Rica I wanted to become one with not only the culture but with natural as well. When we first arrived at the Ranch we just fell in love with it. It was spacious and had warm inviting decor and feel but there was so much do on the far itself. From the horse back riding to spending time at the pool, then hiking, and outdoor yoga. I found such fufillment in Costa Rica and our stay at the Ranch was just perfect. I would recommend staying here in a heart beat! Pura Vita!!

Location

From the Owner

I chose this property as it was so close to everything. The thought of flying into San Jose and then driving 3-4 hours was not something I was at all interested in. The farm is so close to the beach, the city, the volcanoes and yet there are no neighbors for miles and there is a wonderful sense of adventure from the moment you drive in. Rancho Montecito is an elegant and rustic adventure. You can make it a leisurely stay or an action packed adventure. It is for those who love to be surrounded by nature.
