The Harlem Hideaway was a huge hit with us!

  • 5 of 5
The wife, baby (15 mos) and I came to Manhattan for a wedding. The bride forwarded a link to the apt to me. The pics looked great and the location was perfect for us. When we arrived we were very impressed with the amount of space and the great amenities. It's clear Dennis put a lot of effort into mixing in some modern luxuries without losing all of the charm a 100+ year old building has. He has done that masterfully. Being a designer by trade has its advantages. The apartment was clean, neat, quiet and secure. I generally don't like to stay in garden units because they can make one feel vulnerable. However, we felt very safe with the number of security measures the owner has taken. Dennis was very helpful with giving us the lay of the land regarding many of the surrounding businesses and restaurants. It was so nice to walk a few blocks to the patisserie in the morning. We felt like we were part of the fabric of the neighborhood. Some of the wedding guests stayed at the Waldorf. I'm so glad we didn't. We got so much more for our money. The next time we visit NYC we'll make sure it's warmer (it snowed several inches one of the days). When we do come back we won't hesitate to stay at the Hideaway.

Simply Amazing!

  • 5 of 5
I can't say enough good things about the Harlem Hideaway. Dennis, the owner, has put together a very clean, comfortable, well decorated and safe place. The very modern but historic brownstone draws off of the musical roots of Harlem and is a home with everything you could possibly want in an amazing true to style NYC neighborhood. Dennis greeted us upon our arrival and gave us everything we needed including his personal cell phone to contact him with any needs or questions in which he promptly responds. Dennis gave us a full rundown of the neighborhood and the best places to go and eat and all of them were spot on. A binder full of ideas of everything Harlem was available inside which included comments from previous guests. We loved the neighborhood so much that we spent most of our time exploring the many things Harlem has to offer. The 2 or 3 train is an express ride to manhattan and is within a few short blocks of the Harlem Hideaway. A show at the legendary Apollo theatre is a must! We have visited NYC several times and will NEVER stay anywhere else!

We had a great stay! The flat was spacious and beautifully renovated. Dennis answered all my emailed questions so promptly prior to our visit and was very welcoming at our arrival. The flat was close to the subway, coffee shops , and groceries. The neighborhood was charming and we felt very safe walking about. We plan to stay there again for our next visit to NYC!

Easy in New York!

  • 5 of 5
Excellent stay with a hospitable host and great accommodation. The area itself (Harlem) is quiet, interesting in a racial mix perspective, and seems to be quite safe. It has access to good restaurants and general facilities, public transport to downtown Manhattan is relatively easy, inexpensive and, outside of peak business hours, quick.
Your host (Dennis) gives good advice as to the area and what it has to offer.

Location

From the Owner

This building is typical of the historic neighborhood. I was impressed that it still retained so much of its original form and material. However, I was very impressed by the atmosphere of the block, with friendly, open and involved neighbors.

Amenities

From the Owner

The quiet friendly tree-lined street, proximity to express subway- only 4 stops to Times Square, closeness to neighborhood coffee shop and historic park, as well as the 125 St. corridor and Central Park. I actually love sitting on the front stoop while having a coffee or a glass of wine. I love seeing the relaxed street life going by, and being a part of it. Since my block is dominated by private brownstones, rather than apartment buildings, it has a friendlier, small town feeling than most other neighborhoods.
