My family & I (two adults & two kids ages 13 & 10) visited Sarkiki in April 2015. The drive from the airport is quiet long but the views are well worth it. We would recommend renting a car (we did) that way you can explore what the country has to offer. We were the only ones there for three days of our stay which was great! Linda was super easy to work with and answered every question we had in a timely fashion (usually within hours)! The staff are just awesome - Epi, Lisa, Manuel, Ruben, Gregory, the list goes on and on. You need anything just ask and you will get it! When we got there they showed us unit 5 which only had two beds. We had asked Linda ahead of time for a unit that could accommodate an extra twin bed. When we mentioned this to Epi he hopped right on it and we ended up with Unit 6. It was perfect. Rooms are large & the beds were very comfortable. There is only AC in the bedrooms which took us a bit by surprise but there is a fan in the living area which helped make it a little more comfortable when inside. We asked Epi for a second fan and he showed right up with it. You'll spend most of your time outside. There was a constant breeze which made it lovely to just sit by the pool and see the ocean. The beach was dirty and there was a TON of seaweed. But the staff raked it up every morning right in front of the resort. Because of the seaweed we did not venture out into the ocean. We would have loved to snorkle but the sea was a bit rough the entire time we were there. Epi arranged a snorkle trip with Patrick (he works at the local Marina) but we had to cancel it because the sea was rough. We ate mostly in but did go out for a few meals. We ate at Frog's, Tina's kitchen, Chef Rob's, Belizean Dreams, and a pizza joint right on the main road in Hopkins. All were tasty and we would recommend all of them. We shopped at Happy Store (takes credit cards) & Dong Lee's (cash only). It wasn't what we expected but we were able to get by between the two of them. We also found a bigger grocery store in Belmopan which we shopped at a few times. As far of activities we cave tubed at St. Herman's Cave (highly recommend), went to the Mayan ruins (ask Epi for a suggestion as to which one to visit), and rented dune buggy's from Woogie Buggy (right in town). Lastly, Alvin, Epi & Lisa's son was just charming! Smart and super funny! Super happy that we got to spend 4 days with him. Views=stunning!

Get Away in Paradise

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I finally took a vacation on our own…no kids, just the two of us. We had done some research on Belize and liked what we saw. After further research and reading reviews we chose Sarkiki Reef Resort, and glad that we did!
Sarkiki Reef was exactly how we imagined it to be from the pictures we saw on line…gorgeous! The rooms are large, clean and well maintained. The views from our patio and deck were incredible. There seemed to be a nice gentle breeze every day. The staff were very nice and always smiling, there when you need them but never in the way.
The pool area is great, very clean and quiet with great views of the ocean and beach just steps away. The beach was clean, no sand fleas, the rooms and grounds also all bug free. It was great.
We recommend using the local fishing guides (Patrick was our guide) if you want to actually catch fish! A great day on the water with Patrick (recommended by Linda from Sarkiki) snorkeling, swimming and fishing. Amazing waters, the underwater plant life and tropical fish were incredible!
Other guests at the resort were very friendly and always ready to hear about the days adventures.
It was a great “get away” and we would go back in a heartbeat.

Relaxing and clean

  • 5 of 5
Wish we were still at Sarkiki Reef Resort. We stayed for a week with our young adult sons. We did day trips hiking to the waterfalls, snorkelling and cave tubing. We enjoyed relaxing on our deck, by the pool or swimming in the pool and ocean. Buy fresh fruit and vegetables from the guy who comes to the gate twice a week. Jim and Christine were great hosts and offered lots of ideas for restaurants and things to do. Playing beach volleyball with the staff was fun. The accommodation was clean and provided lots of room for all of us. We cooked some of our meals at Sarkiki but also went into Hopkins and ate at the local restaurants too. We enjoyed staying out of town where it was quiet and peaceful. Viewing the stars at night was phenomenon. Loved being on the beach to go for walks and swimming. The other guests were all kind and a pleasure to meet. Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful Resort!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I visited Hopkins and stayed at Sarkiki Reef with 3 other couples. The eaccommodations are well designed, spacious, comfortable, clean and have amazing views from the decks. We loved the pool which is salt based and a lovely beach with a safe, shallow shore line. The people of Belize and Hopkins in particular are friendly and unlike larger resorts where you are closed off from the local community we felt like part of the community. Linda & Mike (and Cam) offer invaluable advice as to where to eat and who to connect with for various excursions. Manuel who works at Sarkiki is happy to be a guide on his days off and his brother Epi and the rest of the staff are friendly and helpful. If you are needing to watch a sporting event then Sittee River Marina which is near by is a great place to go with good food and cheep beer. It's also where we left from to go snorkelling with Patrick. I'm glad we spent 2 weeks because it always takes a few days to get the lay of the land when it's a first visit to a foreign place. We would recommend renting a car (we used Crystal Car Rentals) and though the highways are pretty good be prepared for rough roads (and mud if it rains) around the smaller towns. We would highly recommend the tubing in the caves (at Blue Hole) with the group that Cameron at Sarkiki set us up with - I was a little concerned with the idea of being in a cave, but I didn't have a problem at all :) We also loved Chef Rob's and Love on the Rocks restaurants (same owners for both) and when our Dutch cousins discovered they served dutch croquets (limited clientele) well we had to go and we devoured them :) All in all we would highly recommend Sarkiki - Mike and Linday and staff went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable and worry free. Thanks to everyone there!

Fantastic Vacation!

  • 5 of 5
This was absolutely one of the most amazing vacations we have ever taken...mainly due to the staff of Epi and Manuel, who are of Mayan heritage and very proud of it! Epi arranged a snorkeling trip with Patrick at the Sittee River Marina (1/2 mile away with a very nice restaurant), brought us back beer from town, and even washed our vehicle before we left!

We rented a car from Belize City and drove the almost 3 hours to Hopkins. The main roads are paved, so the trip was relaxing and we were able to just take in the countryside. Epi greeted us and showed us to our unit, which is rather modest in American standards but completely adequate (stocked with everything we needed). As it turned out, we were the only guests there for the entire 8 days. Therefore, we were fortunate enough to really get to know the staff. Manuel is an official tour guide, so we went on 3 different excursions with him. We hiked Antelope Falls in Mayflower National Park (there is a pristine swimming hole at the TOP of the waterfall--the hike is strenuous, but worth it when you get there!). We drove to Xunantunich, which is a very impressive Mayan ruin. What's visible is amazing, but what's incredible is what's under your feet that's not yet been excavated. Then he took us to his home area of Punta Gorda. It's just a completely different area from Hopkins. He took us to swim in the river, and we witnessed 2 ladies doing their laundry in the river with rocks. It's fascinating and humbling!

There are more restaurants than we could possibly eat at in the area. Tina's was the most authentic that we tried (had barracuda and gibnut!). We drove to Plancencia twice. This is a more "touresty" area, but a nice change of pace. Just make sure you find the "sidewalk" on the ocean side of the road. This is where a lot of the shops and restaurants are. My daughter is into geocaching, and we even found a geocache in Placencia! That made her trip.

I was so sad for this vacation to end. We had fabulous weather and a fabulous time.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your vacation. Our staff is awesome and are very good at taking care of our guests. It is great that you had fabulous weather. You were concerned with the weather forecasts you were seeing just before you arrived, but these generally report Belize City and the weather varies throughout the country. As you note, our staff are proud of their heritage and are knowledgeable about the country. Ethnicity is diverse in the country and it is interesting to see the cultural differences in the various regions in such a small country. Mayflower National Park is definitely a highlight - we love the waterfall and swimming hole at the top of the falls. A few months ago, we did a hike to the lower falls which also had a great swimming hole and not as strenuous. There are still other hikes that we have not yet explored. There is also Ziplining at the same entrance to the park. There is much that Belize has to offer, as you note, it is fascinating and humbling.

Wonderful Vacation

  • 5 of 5
We had a fantastic time at the Sarkiki Resort. There were four of us and the condo afforded plenty of space - although we were outdoors most of the time. We used the front patio a lot. Christine and Jim were the perfect hosts, making our visit feel like a stay with familiar friends. They were right on it with suggestions/ideas/booking trips. The Belizians who helped at the resort were also very helpful and very friendly.
We rented a car in Belize, the drive to Hopkins was 2.5+ hours away, but we got to see a lot of the countryside and stop along the way to visit other places. Having a car in Hopkins, for us, was a necessity. We explored much of the interior and along the coast.
We fixed brunch at the condo and ate dinner out in town. There were plenty of choices with an affordable range of prices. We were never disappointed in our dinners.
The only drawback were the no-see-ums. Blood thirsty little devils - but only when the on shore breeze was gone. Baby oil helped to curtail their meals.
The beach was always kept clean and a nice place to swim as it was shallow for quite a ways out into the bay.
I have no hesitation in recommending the Sarkiki Resort to anyone looking for a quite place to relax and relatively nearby day trips.
