Seaside Beach where I grew up is only a 5-7 minute walk away and the beautiful Atlantic Beach a short 5 minute drive away. In the yard of the house, you may just find the results of what I learned from my farming days with daddy; some vegetables or fruits may be free for the picking.

There is a one bedroom suite and two, two bedroom suites, immaculately kept. Each bedroom has it's own en-suite full bath and each unit is also complete with a full kitchen and living and dining space. The suites are installed with 42' flat screen TVs and cable in each living room. Wireless Internet is provided and ceiling fans and split AC units are in every room. Additionally, each unit boasts its own stacked washer/dryer and separate driveway. King bedrooms can convert to two twin beds upon request and vice versa. Beach towels are available and a shared deck allows for relaxing or lounging in the warm sun or simply cooking up something succulent on the large propane operated grill, which is available upon request. We have tried to see to every amenity. Mama, my brother Dale and I will see to your needs during your stay; that's our way to make you feel at home with family.

Situated centrally on the 110 mile island, the capital settlement of historic Governor's Harbour is only 5 miles away from the house and the surrounding area boasts fine dining, a small library, a plant preserve park, an organic farm with fresh fruits, green herbs and vegetables, a high pitched Methodist Church, a pizzeria basically across the street and the opportunity to even see school children brightly uniformed going to or returning from school. Small mom and pop grocery stores are nearby and the property is approximately a 20 minute drive from the closest Airport, Governor's Harbour.

In Governor's Harbor, you can visit the more than 100 year old Hayne's Library, the old Episcopal church, Anchor Bay on Friday nights for Fish Fry where locals and tourists gather for entertainment and good food. On picturesque Cupid's Cay in Governor's Harbour, you may also wish to watch the weekly mail boats arrive from Nassau or Florida with weekly supplies and food for the island. Additionally, the beautiful historical homes overlooking the stunning harbour is a refreshing throw back to the ole' days.

In the South of Eleuthera, a must see are the amazing blue holes in Rock Sound, while in the North you can visit the world famous glass window bridge, Preachers or Hatchet Bay caves or take a trip to nearby Victorian looking islands of Spanish Wells or Harbour Island.

And there's much more. You can choose to do nothing or do it all! It's all up to you!

About the Owner

As an island or Seaside girl as persons from South Palmetto Point, Eleuthera are known, I attended and graduated from both elementary and high schools in Palmetto Point. Immediately after completing high school I went to work for the country's telecommunications company as the first female technician to the island of Eleuthera. I continued working in Eleuthera for 8 years and later moved away to further my education while working. Obtaining an Electronics Technology Diploma and a Bachelor's Degree in Business I was promoted through the ranks and went on to serve in supervisory or regional and senior management capacities on various other islands of the Bahamas for the next 22 years. After 30 years of service, I opted to retire and return to my hometown in 2012, a goal I had yearned hard after. Sir Charles place is therefore the fulfillment of a vision. I enjoy serving the needs of guests in a community way, just as my dad did.

Excellent!

I have been going to Eleuthera for 14 years. It was so nice to be able to stay at such a clean and well-appointed unit! Many times it seems no matter how nice the place is, you always have a problem with ants coming in...NOT HERE!

There were no bugs in this lovely 2 bedroom unit. The sofas and bed were VERY comfortable and the pillows were amazing! Everything was so clean and new. The location was great. Walking distance to a beach, easy to find and great flat screen TV.

ARLENE WAS GREAT TO WORK WITH! Very attentive to all our needs. We plan on coming back!

The ONLY place to stay in Eleuthra!!

  • 5 of 5
To anyone reading this......We all read reviews and hope that what we read will give us an idea if a property is worth it or not. I can say without a doubt that this is the place to stay if you visit this island. We were greeted with a warm welcome by Arlene the owner in person. She had EVERYTHING you could possibly need ready for us, from dishes to an immaculate place.

The unit was spotless, the location is excellent (right in the middle of the island) and the neighborhood was safe and secure. A car rental is a must so you can enjoy all this island has to offer. Arlene had a complete list of must sees and maps. Folks, this woman thought of EVERYTHING.

So if you decide to visit Eleuthera, give Arlene a call and rent this unit. We had a wonderful stay and we will definitely be back....Thanks Arlene!!!!

CHARMING NEW COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
If you are heading to Eleuthera and this is your first time, you might want to consider saying in the middle of this 112 mile long Island. Governors Harbor and South Palmetto Point are centrally located to many excellent snorkeling sites on the east side reef and great beaches on the west side. There are also many beautiful inland bays and bone fish flats within 30 miles north and south. Sir Charles Guest House is very new, exceptional clean and well stocked for our arrival. Arlene saw to and anticipated our every need including a cell phone. We couldn't had better time. The cottage is a spacious 1 bedroom, 1 bath with a large living room and kitchen. WiFi is very good also. Our weather was in the high 70's to low 80's for the two weeks and sleeping was comfortable enough that we did not need the air conditioner at all. You'll be buying most of your groceries in Gov's Harbor about 6 miles up the road but the largest stores are up in Spanish Wells a nice day trip though. Suggest to everyone renting a small car as the road are a bit narrow and if you go off into the jungle they get even narrower so make sure the owner is not looking for a new paint job. Gas was running us $5.66 so getting a small economy car is away to save money. We did not have too many misquotes, but lots of biting sand fly's (no see um's) so don't leave home without something with lots of Deet in it, especially late in the afternoon. The itchy little red bumps only last a week of so....Make sure you get a good map as most of the roads are unmarked, but anyone along the road will always help get. We found the Island a whole to be very safe and will be returning soon. Thanks again Arlene for a wonderful vacation.

Location

From the Owner

I was born and raised in South Palmetto Point and my fondest memories of life are connected with this town and Island. For educational and economic opportunities, I moved away and lived and worked on other islands of the Bahamas, but always looked forward to the day I could return and contribute to building my hometown in an organic way. I did just that in 2012. This house, completed in 2013 is dedicated posthumously to my dad Charles Clarke, of whom I have personally knighted as 'Sir Charles', not because he achieved some notoriety by world's standards but simply because he accomplished the greatest thing in the world to me; he was a great dad and father. He had little, but he worked hard in many capacities to provide for his family. Through his example as a quiet unassuming man, he taught us the value of hard work, honesty, integrity and love for God and our fellowmen. Daddy served in the tourism industry up and down the island of Eleuthera for many decades as a taxi driver, clearly loving what he did; this was evidenced in the respect he afforded others. As a daddy's girl, I could always be found foot to foot behind him whether in the boat fishing, on the farm or going along for the ride as he taxied guests around. Unfortunately, the construction site was off limits to me. So it is no wonder, I found a way, in his physical absence to construct anyhow. This house is built on the route that daddy drove home to us every day and I have commissioned it 'Sir Charles Guest House' to honor his legacy. Charles Blair Clarke (1922-1986). So my 'Why' for this property is - I love daddy, I love what he taught me and I am committed to serving others hopefully as well as he did His legacy lives on! To Daddy!

Amenities

From the Owner

Eleuthera's balmy breezes can be felt no matter where you are. The rolling hills, dangerous, yet breathtaking cliffs, bright sunshine, beautiful blue and green warm waters, pristine beaches, friendly natives and slow pace all combine for the kind of therapy the doctor orders. The ability to grow what I eat in the rich soil, hear kids playing in the streets, shinny up a tree, play hopscotch in the street, catch a butterfly or a fish, go land crabbing, black or coco plumming , letting the sound of waves and the sea lull me to sleep at night or even watch the local dogs frolic in the street are all things remembered and many enjoyed still. Not to mention, Eleuthera's rich history, from the Arawaks to the Eleutheran Adventurers and the island's apropo naming - Yes, Eleuthera is truly Freedom!!.
