The space
This historical gem has been our labor of love. Please note, home is still 120+ years old.. It was originally a School house! The floors and stairs can creak, although there is a wood stove, the lower bedroom can be a bit colder, even with the heat pump going. A small space heater is available. The exterior is next summers project, paint, new wrap around deck and landscaping will truly bring our special piece of history to the next level! Please understand, it is a work in progress, and improvements are being made often.
Guest access
There is a lockbox on the front door. Code will be sent day of check in.
Other things to note
Gates is a tiny city along the Santiam River, below Detroit Lake. There is only a small market (Sierra) connected to a wonderful Mexican restaurant. (Also Sierra) You'll want to do any major shopping prior to arrival.

Hi, I'm Matt, the owner of the house. This house is located about 1/4 of a mile from where I grew up and where part of my family still lives, so really close to home. I bought this house about 8 years ago and began to remodel and update it. I did some remodeling but due to making some changes in life I had to move away. I kept the house, renting it to some long term renters. I've recently had the opportunity to continue with the remodeling and updating and spent last summer making the house more of my original vision. I've decided to try the short term rental market as an alternative to long term tenancy. I love the house and want the ability to visit it, but would love to share the space with others that would appreciate it as well. I'm looking forward to this new chapter of owning this historic house!

Why they chose this property

This rural community is where I grew up. Gates is so central I've always appreciated this location. Nestled in the Cascade foothills with all kinds of outdoor recreational opportunities nearby. It's a great place to be if you want to raft or fish the Santiam River, hike or hunt the Santiam State Forest, or just enjoy the local communities of Mill City and Gates.

What makes this property unique

This was a traditional one room schoolhouse built in 1900. It was moved to its current location and transformed into a home, albeit a rough, frontier type home. It was then formed more into a family home during the 1970s through early 2000s, with an addition of a bathroom and larger main bedroom. Additional remodeling in the past 8 years have made it into it's current, updated form.
