Apartment w/ Kitchen, Open Living & Dining, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (S

This newly renovated beautiful artist penthouse is in one of New Orleans’ most amazing historic neighborhoods the ‘Irish Channel’. A unique neighborhood loaded with quaint Victorian cottages, only one block from the wonderful Garden District, and Magazine Street the best shopping district the city has to offer.

Built in the 1880’s as a corner grocery store, this two story, bracketed style building with a balcony, was designed to sell fresh produce on the first floor and to provide housing for the store owner and his family on the second floor. New Orleans neighborhoods are sprinkled with these buildings some sold meat and dairy products others sold produce, now many have been converted into homes, studios and even corner bars which offer great gathering places for locals.

The second floor apartment is light and airy with floor to ceiling operable windows which open to the relaxing balcony that stretches across the front of the building. Original woodwork,

7’-4” doors with transoms, along with the heavy crown molding frames the 12’ ceilings in the large main room that services as dining and living room. The furnishings are a mix of antiques and contemporary with original art throughout the apartment.

The sizeable bedroom offers a relaxing night’s sleep in the antique four poster double bed. An historic portrait hangs above the cypress mantle.

For the best roof top view step into the spacious bathroom, two large windows will make you feel like you are in a tree house.

If you want to be close to everything – this is the place for you!

Only one block from the magnificent Garden District, loaded with amazing historic antebellum homes whose architectural styles go from Victorian and Greek Revival to Italianate. It is a neighborhood of both local and national celebrities, writers, movie stars and quite a few Kings and Queens!, that would be New Orleans’ Royalty – Mardi Gras Kings and Queens.

Only one block from New Orleans’ favorite shopping district Magazine Street. No need for a car, Magazine Street has everything within walking distance. If you need groceries, a cup of great coffee, a birthday cake, bottle of wine, a message, a facial, jewelry, clothes, shoes, art, antiques, or even a musical instrument it’s just a stroll down the street. There is a restaurant for every taste from Coquette Bistro & Wine Bar, Nacho Mama’s Mexican Grill, Sucré, Gott Gourmet Café, Rum House, Joey K’s Restaurant, Rocky’s Pizza, The Bulldog, Sake Café, Café Rani, Magazine PoBoys, to Juans Flying Burrito. And just a few blocks off Magazine Street is the famous Commander’s Palace.

Only one block from two of New Orleans’ most popular corner bars – Parasols’ Bar & Restaurant and Tracey’s the Original Irish Channel Bar. This whole block turns green on St. Patrick’s Day with Irish Clubs marching in the streets early in the morning then a huge street party continues throughout the day. The Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day is the “Irish Chanel St. Patrick’s Day Parade” which travels up Magazine Street then down St Charles Avenue in Mardi Gras size floats pelting the parade goers with everything you need to make an Irish Stew, cabbages, potatoes, carrots, and onions. There are also hoards of men who are members of local Irish Clubs wearing kilts and trading paper flowers for kisses.

Only 10 minutes to all the fabulous attractions New Orleans has to offer. The French Quarter, Convention Center, Super Dome, Audubon Park & Zoo, Aquarium of the Americas, World Trade Center, Harrah’s Casino, Arts District, D Day Museum, Civil War Museum, Ogdon Southern Art Museum, Contemporary Art Museum, Insectarium, Mardi Gras World, Audubon Golf Course, and Theaters both live and film.

Transportation is so easy, stroll through the Garden District to St. Charles Avenue to catch the Streetcar, or catch a bus one block away. Because we are so close to Downtown a cab ride is pretty cheap.

Loved This Apartment!

  • 5 of 5
This VRBO rental was perfect! The apartment is tasteful, open, light-filled, fun playful artiness...and best of all it's thoughtfully well stocked and functional. The owners were super nice and we never had a problem finding parking on the street right in front of the apartment. We would definitely stay here again!

This place is the best!

  • 5 of 5
So if you want the perfect getaway, this is the place. We stayed here for a week (my gift to my husband for his 60th) and found the location to be absolutely perfect. Alanda and Bob were great hosts and everything mentioned below was the same as what we found. We came just before Christmas and the house was decorated in and out for the holidays. Very nice touch. Bus and streetcar are so convenient and so easy to get around the whole city. Go to Slim Goodies on Magazine for an awesome breakfast in a local establishment. Also Big Fisherman (across from Slim Goodies) has delicious little crawfish pies, and boiled crawfish that you can take out and reheat at the apartment - yum! Parasol's also has the best po'boys in the neighborhood (IMO) and atmosphere. With all New Orleans has to offer, it's a treat to come back to this apartment at the end of it all and relax in such comfort. My husband wants to move to this neighborhood after this experience!

Feels Like Home!!

  • 5 of 5
Our first trip to New Orleans was a great experience largely due to having chosen the perfect place for our group to stay. Upon entering this rental, located in the Irish Channel, we were excited at the inviting and homey feel of the apartment. Spacious and artsy, this place has soul and character. In fact, we loved this artist’s loft so much that we hope to stay there again on our next visit to New Orleans. There was plenty of room for our group of three to be comfortable and enjoy our visit. Within walking distance of the bus or streetcar and right off of Magazine Street, it is easy to get to anything you would like to do in New Orleans. Owners are exceptional hosts providing croissants and drinks for guests as well as other small items throughout the apartment to make it cozy. Just about anything you can think of that you might need as far as amenities go were made available for use. If you get the chance, book this place for your trip!

Clean, comfortable, convenient...

This is one of those places that I could ramble on and on about... Owners are terrific hosts. The apartment is wonderful. Location is great. Amenities abound. Outstanding value. Is it perfect? No. But it is the best of what VRBO has to offer. Character, value, and a real sense of connection to a community. Other reviewers have covered all that is good about this place. My recommendation? Book it.

Bright, Artistic Jewel of an Apartment that feels like a Home!

  • 5 of 5
I have always wanted to visit NOLA during the Halloween season, so we started saving a year ago. I was so careful in choosing a place to stay because I wanted to really feel the New Orleans spirit. I was SO lucky to have found this rental apartment! This vacation rental, felt like a home, and one we were so comfortable in from the first moment. I stayed with my Mom, in the artsy, eclectic Irish channel area, just off of Magazine Street, and in this rental, felt as safe and welcome as if we were visiting family.

The owners were very kind and attentive, answered all questions, and helped us find our way around as soon as we arrived, then told us call if we had questions. They were GREAT.

The apartment is stocked with EVERYTHING you could need to just drop your bags and go, lots of towels, pillows, blankets, hair dryer and hair styling tools, Iron and Board, toiletries, like toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, mouthwash... and the Kitchen? Croissants, coffee and drinks waiting for you. You could actually cook a meal there... plenty of dishes, pans and small kitchen appliances. There is Wireless, TV, Netflix, cable, and even board games for your entertainment. I couldn't think of a single thing you could need that wasn't anticipated.

Visually, the apartment is STUNNING, with floor to ceiling windows circled by twinkling lights opening onto a balcony... White Walls and Floors perfectly offset the colorful art all over the walls in the HUGE Living/Dining room area with comfy, sink-into furniture to relax in. You could entertain here so easily. The Bathroom is huge, light filled and charmingly decorated. The Bed is so comfy, the Bedroom is spacious and cozy with a real New Orleans feel.

The neighborhood is amazing, with more to see than we could cram into our week... so many funky artisan shops and cafe's to explore.. a real walkers paradise! Magazine Street is a block away with a great #11 bus running up and down Magazine from the Audubon park to the Canal street district, which is the edge of the French quarter...

You have to try District Donuts and Sliders, C.C.'s Coffee, Slim Goodies Diner (amazing waffles and cheesy grits!) and Charcoals Gourmet Burgers, Joey K's, and Willie Mays Garden District Location for great lunch and dinner menus.

We really cant say enough good things about this rental... the only word that sums it up fully would be... PERFECT.

Thank you Alanda and Bob for a stay we will never forget!

From the Owner

Actually we were looking for the building, a historic corner grocery store to be converted into an artist studio and office on the bottom with living space above. When we found it we fell in love with the neighborhood and all the amenities it has to offer – easy walking distance to so many shops and restaurants,
