AVOID!

We had an absolutely terrible experience renting this apartment from David. First, in our early correspondence, David had promised us that there would be 5 beds in this four-bedroom apartment: specifically, four regular beds and a sofa bed. There was no sofa bed -- only a long orange vinyl couch. When we contacted him about this on the phone (he was not present during check-in), he tried to tell us that this couch was indeed a sofa bed. It clearly was not a sofa bed as it did not fold out into a bed; it was just an orange vinyl couch. In addition, the unit was very cramped, with minimal light and little space that wasn’t taken up by beds.

Secondly, he had offered to provide transportation for six of us to drop off equipment in Times Square, and then bring us to the rented apartment at what seemed a very reasonable rate. When we got back to the apartment we found out that the drivers were expecting three times the price David had clearly quoted us in our email correspondence. David became belligerent on the phone and asked us if it was fair to pay the drivers the amount that he had quoted us in our previous email correspondence. We eventually had to pay them more than David had quoted us.

Thirdly, a quick Google search revealed that the apartment is in a 134-unit building of tax-subsidized, low-income housing reserved for people who need this housing, and therefore should not be used as a vacation rental unit. Overall, we felt very uncomfortable with David’s harsh demeanor on the phone during the check-in process, and he was evasive and vague in our early correspondence about the property. Because the property was misrepresented in his Homeaway listing, which clearly states that there will be a sofa bed (and shows a picture of what appears to be an actual sofa bed that was not there when we checked in), and David’s general unwelcoming demeanor, we left the property immediately and are now pursuing means to get our rental fee refunded.

Do not make the same mistake we did. Look elsewhere for housing in NYC.

MY NAME IS EJIMA WHO HOSTED MR JUSTIN ROBERTS AND HIS FRIENDS BEFORE THEY ARRIVED AND AFTER THEY ARRIVED. I RESPONDED TO THEIR UNUSUAL REQUESTS EVEN ASKING FOR A TRUCK TO CARRY THEIR MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS WE HAVE A SOFA AND A MATTRESS BUT NO PULL OUT BED WAS MENTIONED AND NO FIFTH BED WAS MENTIONED OR AGREED UPON. THE APARTMENT HAS FOUR QUEEN DESIGNER BEDS WITH FOUR BEDROOMS. THE LIVING ROOM SET THAT WAS THERE PREVIOUSLY WAS DAMAGED BY A GUEST AND WE BOUGHT A NEW LIVING ROOM BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAD BEFORE WHICH IS A SECTIONAL BED COUCH/SOFA AND EIGHT SEATER DINNING. THE APT BUILDING IS NOT SUBSIDIZED OR MEANT FOR LOW INCOME . A NEW COMPANY BOUGHT IT OVER AND RENOVATED THEM AND ARE BEING RENTED ON MARKET VALUE. HE IS JUST NOT WELL INFORMED RATHER BIAS. ITS NOT OUR RESPONSIBLITY TO SEND CARS TO THE AIRPORT TO PICK GUESTS BUT WE DO IT TO ACCOMMODATE OUR DECENT AND RESPONSIBLE GUESTS. THESE DRIVERS WAIT ON OUR GUESTS REGARDLESS ON MANY HOURS THEY SPEND AT THE AIRPORT,THE SAFETY OF MY GUESTS IS MORE IMPORTANT AND NOT THE MONEY OR TIME WASTED. IT WAS IN THIS FASHION THAT I GAVE MR ROBERTS AND HIS FRIENDS LESS FARE BUT TO THE APT AND NOT TO TAKE THE THREE DRIVERS TO THE THEATRES DOWNTOWN AND BACK TO THE APT. I EVEN SENT MR ANDREW, ONE OF OUR FAVORITE DRIVERS WHO PICKS UP GUESTS FROM THE AIRPORT AND CHECKS THEM IN AND CHECKS THEM OUT. I SPECIFICALLY SENT HIM TO RECEIVE THEM AND WELCOME THEM AT THE APT AND HIS FEES WAS PAID BY THE COMPANY. AT THAT TIME MR DAVID WAS ADMITTED IN THE HOSPITAL . HE DID NOT SPEAK TO ANYONE I DID. MR DAVID IS LOVED BY EVERY GUEST AND FRIENDS BECAUSE OF HUMILITY AND FRIENDLINESS. ALL THE REVIEWS SUPPORTS MY STATEMENT INCLUDING THE LAST REVIEW BEFORE HIS BIAS AND DISGUSTING REPORT. WE ENDED UP PAYING THE DRIVERS THE ACCURATE FARE MR ROBERT AND FRIENDS WOULD HAVE PAID . WE SPENT MONEY TO BUY BAKERIES AND WATER FOR THE ROBERTS AND TREATED THEM WITH RESPECT AND DIGNITY BUT HE WAS NOT SATISFIED. HE STILL HAS OUR KEYS. WE OFFERED HIM AN EXTRA BED,MATTRESS AND ANY OTHER THING HE MAY NEED HE WAS JUST NOT HAPPY BUT NASTY TO THE DRIVERS,ANDREW AND TO ME . IT WAS DULY REPORTED TO HOMEAWAY SECURITY AND TRUST DEPT . THE LAST GUEST MR MANJA, WHO LEFT ON 5/9/2015, LEFT AN INCREDIBLE AND AWESOME REVIEW WHICH DOES NOT SUPPORT MR ROBERTS ARGUMENT AND IT WAS AFTER HIS STAY ON 5/1/2015

Manja, stay from 1 till 9 may 2015

Our stay from 1 till 9 may 2015 with 3 grown-ups and 4 teens at Davids apartment was perfect.
We arrived very late at JFK, at 23, 00 in the evening. But that was no problem, David arranged a pick-up from JFK airport and an introduction in the apartment. It was a very warm welcome with a refrigerator full of water bottles, lots of croissants, a marvellous cake with different tastes and 2 whole breads.
The apartment was cosy decorated, had plenty of towels, all the equipment we needed and was properly cleaned every day. We even had fresh bedlinen in the middle of the week.
We bought the “New York Pass” and a Metro card for the week, both very useful to discover New York. For that, the location of the apartment is amazing, just 5 minutes’ walk from the underground. Metro lines (4, 5 and 6) brought us in less than 20 minutes in midtown New York
At the end of the day we enjoyed the sunset in front of the door since the apartment was at a corner of the gallery with a lot of space to sit. The neighbourhood was relaxed.
Our flight back was at 23.00 with a check out at 11.30 but David was so kind to let us leave our luggage in the apartment to pick it up at 18.00, which was very generous and a great opportunity to spend the whole day in the city.

We had an excellent stay in East Harlem. This apartment is exactly as described. There were 7 of us and we were very comfortable in the space - there was plenty of room and it was clean. David, Andrew and Fadima were great hosts and very attentive and helpful.

Excellent Apartment

Excellent Apartment for "girls weekend away". 6 Adult woman enjoyed a two night stay in this apartment. There was plenty of room and the appliances and furnishing were all brand news. Extremely clean! Great location to the train and a quick walk to Central Park for morning jogs. We enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it. Thank you David and Fadima!

“So happy with this appartment”

Not only do they have a real 4 rooms appartment like you see on the photos, but you have cleaning every days. Amazing people and employees. David is a real gentleman. Safe, pleasant and multicultural neighborhood and no problem to park your car. Subway in 2 minues and great places to dine and were very hospitable. I cannot wait to visit again!

Excellent accueil ! Tres bonne literie. Menage fait tous les jours. Parfaitement conforme à l'annonce, climatisation impeccable (pas plus bruyante que dans le reste de New York), mais petite chambre du haut avec ventilo au plafond (marchait très bien d'ailleurs). Appartement Tres bien situé à 100m du métro desservant le centre de Manhattan. Commerces à proximite. Immeuble avec Agent de sécurité. A 15 min de Central Park à pied. Propriétaire fort urbain appelant pour prendre de nos nouvelles. Tres bonne adresse. formule économique à huit, tres confortable à 6. Such a nice place to be !
