About this property

Schweitzer Castle - Located above Schweitzer Ski Resort - Ski-in, Ski-Out.

This stunningly authentic castle is constructed from hand-hewn stone from a quarry in Canada ( 65 miles North); each stained glass window is hand-crafted; all the hardwood features are individually designed and built. The walls have a waterproof, insulated steel reinforced core making the Castle truly as solid as a rock. Hydronic heated floors, natural gas heating, electric kitchen, stunning views from the battlements are just a few of the special features that make this a uniquely fabulous family home. It is located above Schweitzer Ski Resort and is Ski-in, Ski-out. NOTE- 4 wheel or All wheel drive is necessary in the winter. There are 54 steps to the top so you need to be in half-way good shape. The Castle is NOT exactly child friendly - Four stories high, lots of fragile antiques - Not things to play with.

Hi,
My wife and I have lived in the Castle from 2013 to October of 2022. Every minute living on the mountain was an adventure! While living in the Castle we enjoyed sharing our collection of Antiques with friends and new quaintness. The collection has bits and pieces dating from 200BCE to the 17th century. There is something of interest for everyone! Now we treasure sharing our unique home with people that enjoy the mountains of North Idaho and all it has to give. AND, the adjoining building, the Chateau de Melusine is as unique as the Castle and is a vacation rental managed by Vacasa.

Why they chose this property

Why did we chose this neighborhood , ah, hmmm, maybe because of the clean cool air, the spectacular views of Lake Pene Oreille, Views of Schweitzer Ski Resort, the sunrises, the smell of the pine trees, the deer, moose, bear... that frequent the property. And the quite and stillness of the forest - and the occasional yell of a neighbor who is chastising her husband ?

What makes this property unique

OH COME ON!!! Where else can you live in a castle (where the natives speak proper English)? Where else can you live like a King and Queen with your Kinglets and Queenlets (is that proper English?)? You figure it out!
