6 Bedrooms, loft, 3 full bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 20

This lovely property has 4,750 sq. feet and comfortably sleeps 20. It's ideal for families or groups wanting to get away and enjoy all Tahoe has to offer. Here, you will be close to skiing, shopping, restaurants, gambling, ice skating, hiking, water sports, snow play and so much more. Even so, you may not want to leave the house! With plenty of games, a pool table, 2 large flat screens, 5 smaller tv's, wii, cable, internet, ping-pong, mini-foosball, and comfy couches, you'll have plenty of indoor entertainment! If you'd rather go exploring, there's paradise outside the back door. In the winter, it's perfect for sledding and snow ball fights. Best of all, you can send out the kiddos and easily see them from inside the house! In the summer, there's plenty of hiking close by: even a small creek not far. The house has a beautifully appointed kitchen, with tables and seating for 20. There's a patio/deck for when the weather is nice, and 3 gas fireplaces to keep cozy when it's not!

Needs improvements to be a great cabin

  • 2 of 5
I am a bit surprised by all the good reviews of this cabin. My family recently stayed here for a family reunion. The cabin is indeed beautiful and spacious, but there were many things that were lacking. To start with, we discovered that many of the lights in the kitchen didn't work. When we contacted the owner about it, she said she would check on it another time. Why would she not have a maintenance person come and fix that? We were all mystified. We also told her that several of the TVs did not work, but no one came out to look at them either.

The cabin is supposed to sleep 20 people, but it's really suited for about 16. On the lower level, there are enough beds for 12 people, but there is only one bathroom. One bathroom for 12 people is quite an interesting experience! The insulation in the walls and floors is minimal (or missing) so the people sleeping on the lower level hear everything going on above them (people walking on the hardwood floors, etc). It was very loud. Not fun when you are trying to sleep.

The cabin was also quite messy when we arrived- drawers not clean, cobwebs everywhere, laundry rooms and kitchen not completely clean. The game shelf downstairs was in complete disarray. We had to organize it in order to play games. The WIFI was also spotty.

Be aware that there is no A/C in this cabin so when it gets hot all you can do is open the windows. There is also no hot tub and no fire pit (probably not a good idea in drought conditions). If you want to roast marshmallows, you'll have to use the gas grill.

The cabin itself is beautiful and the layout is great. The kitchen is huge and very nice (provided the lights work); goodness knows why there were two coffee pots and no coffee grinder! The beds were comfortable, which was a plus. And there is a huge deck with a nice view. But, in general, the bad things outweigh the good. We would not stay here again.

Owner's Response: These guests seemed nice enough, but they had difficulties from the very start…from how to use the HomeAway booking process to turning on the TV. Since they originally booked in May, we have happily answered all of their questions in their 20+ emails and numerous phone calls. They wanted to know everything they could about what was at the property and went so far as to recommend that we lay sod as they were planning on taking family pictures! On our HomeAway and VRBO sites, we have tried to list all of the items we think people would need or want to know if we had available for them. When booking they could easily see that we don’t claim to have a hot tub or fire pit or a coffee grinder.
It was unfortunate that there was an electrical issue while they were there. They let us know right away that they could not get some lights to work. The lights that were not working in the kitchen were decorative custom pendant lights. The problem was due to a bad transformer. After they checked out, we immediately had an electrician to come and look at them so as to not disturb their vacation, since there is ample lighting in the kitchen without them (7 can lights and under cabinet lighting as well).
These guests also requested an early check in and our housekeeper made it happen, she also came right over to assist them with an issue that they had created by opening faucets in the garage and not closing them. We have 3 TV’s listed on our site but have extras in the bunk room (kids rooms) so that parents can move the DVD players for the kids if needed. We have beds for 20 (using a pull out sofa, which is listed) and it is a 3 story house with 4 bathrooms, so 1 floor will have 2 bathrooms and 2 will have 1. This information was also listed on our site! We always ask guests for ways to improve their stay and purchase any reasonable items that they recommend. There is really no need for A/C in Tahoe, but coming from the valley it did freak me out at first too.
I truly am sorry that these guests did not enjoy themselves. We have been renting this gorgeous home for 3 years and have never had a bad review or a problem that we couldn’t solve. Please read the numerous other reviews and feel free to contact the owners if you have any questions.

Heaven on earth

  • 5 of 5
My wife Linda and I were married in South Lake Tahoe over 30 years ago and celebrated many an anniversary revisiting one of our favorite places on earth, but we've never ventured outside the realm of luxury resorts until now. So when we started exploring Tahoe as a spot for our annual family vacation we were surprised by the many places and prices to choose from but only one stood out for us; The Pioneer Trail home in South Lake Tahoe.

We had seen pictures inside and out but nothing would prepare us for the stunning beauty of this cabin or the breath taking and magnificent views we would experience around it as well!

We all gathered for our second only summer vacation as family; Mom/dad, our four grown children, their spouses and our ten wonderful grandchildren ranging in ages from 5 to 15, it is a brood no doubt. So finding a place to accommodate a party of 19 can be difficult especially during the summer and winter months and at the Holidays!

But they not only accommodated our entire family but you did so in Tahoe Luxury fashion as well. From the bunk beds for the five girls to a room the five boys could call their own, and the adults had an area to call their as well!

From the incredible floor plan and ease in managing most all our functions from the main dining area and grand living room, to celebrating and enjoying each other from within the walls of your Chateau and the many amenities with it!

And to top our trip off, we were able to enjoy all the local amenities such as hiking the Lower Truckee River, the falls, and the most incredible rafting from Tahoe City suited for all ages and just a short drive away from the cabin.

And while the boys/men were taking in a round of Disc (Frisbee) golf, the girls enjoyed pampering themselves at the local beaches and taking in some of the local sights. Dad even got to take advantage of some quiet time and a much needed nap in celebration of "Father's Day", Ahhh!

And any issues we may have encountered were quickly resolved with the owners by just picking up the phone!

We would highly recommend this getaway for any family gathering, large or small and strongly suggest taking full advantage of all it has to offer and what Lake Tahoe has to offer as well.

We look forward to our next stay at the Pioneer Trail property and are already discussing some dates.

Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Ed & Linda Rieth & Family

AWESOME HOUSE! PERFECT FOR ALL AGES!

  • 5 of 5
This house is BREATHTAKINGLY beautiful, well-maintained, and well-stocked. There is something for everyone from kids to seniors! The floor plan is very open - allowing easily for group gatherings and yet there are several nooks and crannies allowing for quiet moments alone. The location and number of windows allows for great views of the scenic Tahoe landscape and plenty of natural light. The house is equipped with many modern amenities and the appliances and fixtures are exquisite! If mobility is a concern, there are lots of stairs because the house is multi-level. We never ran out of hot water for showering and always had something to do with the pool table, Wii, fooseball, board games, deck, and backyard space. Please read instructions carefully so you know how to lock the front door when you leave. The dining table was perfect for a large group and allowed us to eat all of our meals together. The guitar was another great feature since several in our party are aspiring rock stars. Beds and linens were clean. We will definitely consider staying here in the future and would rate this as the best house we've ever stayed in, in more than 10 years of Tahoe vacation renting! Bravo!

Gorgeous, spacious property! A must!

  • 5 of 5
We loved this place. I came with a big group of friends and wasn't sure we'd all fit -- but there was more than enough room. Three floors, two large great rooms, and lots of comfy beds. Plenty of dishes, towels, and basics like shampoo etc so no need to buy anything. The guitar was a great touch, we had a lot of fun jamming on the couch by the fireplace. I think the house looks even better in person than in the pictures, very clean, new and bright. The best thing is that everyone was so impressed with me for finding it, they all raved about it and asked how I'd discovered it (some wanted to get the link so they could book it for their own getaways!). The owners were very responsive and we felt the price was right. We skied at Heavenly and it was a really close drive (plus parking at Heavenly is super easy...time from house to slopes was less than 20 min). The only thing that was even remotely lacking was a hot tub -- if the owners invest in one this place will be off the charts perfect :) I would stay here again with another big group in a heartbeat.

Spacious retreat - Fun and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5
This cabin was amazing. From the moment we all walked in we were awestruck by the amount of openness throughout the three floors. The main floor was spread out enough that we could all eat dinner within earshot of each other. The furniture was comfortable, clean, and up to date. The pool table, WII, TV, and Foosball table were where the teens spent most of their time.
We had two families with a total of 10 adults and two teens. The downstairs was a life saver for the adults. The kids had plenty to keep themselves busy on the first floor, as mentioned above, and the third floor provided enough privacy and solitude that the parents could get our much needed sleep.
The description of the house was well put together in the advertisement. We did have an issue with the barbecue not working properly, but other than that, the unit was top notch! (A simple call to the management company and they were already looking into it). The beds were clean and comfortable, as well as the bathrooms were all updated and spacious. If you have a big group of people looking for a comfortable place to stay, this is the spot to pick. Keep in mind you are a short drive away from the Heavenly Ski Resort (5 miles) and the State-line casinos. It doesn’t get much more convenient than that. Plus, you are far enough off the main drag that it is super quiet.

You can bet we will be back and recommending this to our friends!

Location

Activity and Interests

This beautiful property is located just minutes from all the action that South Lake Tahoe has to offer! We are within 7 miles of Heavenly Ski Resort, Heavenly Village, casinos, restaurants, shopping, golfing and Lake Tahoe itself.

For skiers, not only is the property close to Heavenly, but we are only 12 miles from Sierra-at-Tahoe, and within 30 miles of both Kirkwood and Homewood.

If golf is your game, there's many courses in the area. Lake Tahoe Course is only 2 miles from the property, and the beautiful Edgewood is only 8 miles away!

For those who are looking for a fun night out, all of Statline Nevada's casinos are situated within 7 miles. Also, Heavenly Village, with its movie theatre, outdoor ice rink, and many shops and restaurants, is even closer!

On the property itself, there is plenty of fun to be had; all three stories have beautiful views of a field behind the house that during snowy months becomes a winter wonderland! It's perfect for both snow play and summer hiking.
