House, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 11)
ACCOMMODATIONS: Stay 6 nights and get the 7th night FREE!! Call for details 858.679.5300. This modern 3-story log home of 2,700+ sq. feet has a lake view,WiFi, 5 bedrooms and 3 baths and comfortably accommodates 11 persons for your family gatherings and retreats all year round. There are views of the lake from the main second floor living and dining areas which also includes an enclosed sunroom and very large 400+ sq. ft. deck which has a new stainless steel BBQ, patio furniture and a picnic table for outdoor seating and dining during non-winter months.
On the main mid-level is the comfortable and “woodsy” living room with fireplace, entertainment center containing a flat screen cable TV, DVD player, CD player, stereo (and even a VCR for movie tapes from a past generation); dining room with adjacent sitting area; and fully stocked kitchen with stainless steel appliances including a dishwasher to handle the big meals and even a “bun warmer” for the gourmets among us.
The large circular walnut dining table seats 8-10 members of your party and has a fold-out card table top with poker chips great for “Texas Hold Em” and other entertaining board games. The second floor also contains a second bath and the enclosed sunroom with lake view and casual bar, dart board and relaxing swing for year around enjoyment.
The top third floor has two large master bedrooms with lake views, each with a king size bed; and one master bedroom even has its own gas fireplace for quiet getaway time. There is also a full bath on this level.
The first floor is nearly a “separate home” with its own log-lined living room with a 55" flat screen HDTV and DVD player, three bedrooms (one with an extra TV), bath and laundry room with regular size washer and dryer (and detergent, toilet paper, paper towels and cleaning supplies). The three real-sized bedrooms sleep seven on 1 queen size bed and 5 single beds (and no guests, including any size kids, are crammed into bunk beds or onto convertible sofas). This floor provides the kids with their separate space for entertainment, video games and even sleeping while the adults relax upstairs.
LINEN & CLEANING SERVICES: Sleeping quarters include plenty of pillows, cozy blankets and bedspreads; however, guests need to bring their own linens, pillow cases and towels. Full linen service and cleaning services are available for reasonable charges. Hotel Rangoon has a long flat driveway for easy access and parking pad for plenty of vehicles.
SNOW DAYS: Hotel Rangoon is on the “sunny” North Shore of Big Bear Lake and has the advantage of facing south and west so the roads are quickly cleared of snowfall and have very few icy patches. The North Shore is also the “quiet side” of the lake and the bend-in-the-road town of Fawnskin and its small residential community is surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest. The ski resorts at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are a quick and dry 10 minute drive on the “Fawnskin Freeway”. It is easier and quicker to get to the ski resorts from Fawnskin rather than fighting the heavy traffic and sometimes icy and snow conditions through Big Bear Village. The key is whether the roads are dry and fast as opposed to wet and icy in the shade; and the advantage goes to the sunny North Shore.
CAPTAIN JOHN’S MARINA: Within a short walk of Hotel Rangoon is the public Dana Point Park and Captain John’s Fawn Harbor & Marina with its complete supply of boating craft including entertaining pontoon boats, fishing boats, canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards and jet skis for the young at heart. Picnic tables and a lake shore “beach” offer swimming and recreation for the family and friends and fishing for the kids and beginners.
DISCOVERY CENTER & OBSERVATORY: Definitely visit the Big Bear Discovery Center one mile down the road for educational exhibits, talks and eagle tours in season. The “Adventure Pass” for the National Forest can be purchased here or at the nearby Ranger Station. The Cal Tech Solar Observatory is on this stretch of road and is open to visitors during the summer months.
HIKING & BIKING: The North Shore also offers a three mile level and paved "walking and biking trail" that takes visitors along the shoreline to Cypress Point and to the east end of the lake at Stanfield Cut-off. The U.S. Ranger Station provides hiking and trail maps including the route up to the Pacific Crest Trail which goes from Alaska to Baja California.
TOWN OF FAWNSKIN: The North Shore Café in Fawnskin provides guests and locals with excellent cuisine and hearty food at reasonable prices with friendly hometown service. Grab a cool beverage at one of the other local restaurants or bars in town including the Moose Lodge and explore a great shop The North Shore Trading Company for unique clothing, furnishings and gifts. The Fawnskin Market carries the basic necessities until you get to Von’s or Stater Bros. on the other side.
BIG ADVANTAGE: Local professional property manager for check-ins & outs, linen service, cleaning service and emergencies. You call and see someone local, not 100 miles away down the hill.
ENJOY HOTEL RANGOON ON THE BEST SIDE OF THE LAKE --- THE NORTH SHORE!!!

These posted pictures dont do it justice!
From the beginning, The lady I believe her name was Eileen, was remarkable. I think i bugged her about over 20x before the trip and she was beyond helpful.
5 couple went on this trip and all weekend, everyone was raving on how beautiful the place was. The rooms were comfortable, a little sad we didnt see the place when it snowed because im sure it would have been breath taking.
We were definitely loud but tried our best to keep it all inside the cabin to not bother the neighbors! A sweet old couple to the side of the house said we were not loud at all. We even helped them move some furniture in exchange for our loud, drinking behavior. The only thing that was bad was some of us got cold water on our showers but keep in mind there were 10 of us, so its understandable.
A couple recommendations for the owner and management:
- get a jacuzzi, im sure you will make the money back very quickly. i think a lot of cabins are trying to do this now and im sure it will be an eye catcher for most renters. i know thats what we were looking for and a little sad this place didnt have one
- take some more current pictures of the place. the place is beautiful
we are looking into putting a air hockey and foose ball game
Hope to see you back soon
GREAT FOR MY FIRST TIME AT BIG BEAR
Big and comfortable but some concerns...
Generally the entire house is in need of "freshening" and a thorough cleaning. The Christmas decorations were still up in some rooms. Maybe we were the first ones to be in the unit since winter but that would not explain some of the concerns. The surface areas seem OK but throughout the unit there is accumulated dust and debris especially behind the furniture and under the beds. The couch and chair cushions have food wrappers, a hair brush, food debris and other accumulated junk that needs to be removed.
We were there for three nights with our 6 adult brothers and my dad. It was an enjoyable weekend for 7 guys but I fear that many others may be put off by the lack of detail to basic house keeping and maintenance. The stairs are a definite challenge for seniors!
The photos were clear and accurate and the management office and online rental process was excellent! There were several great restaurants close by and we golfed both days. Lots to see and do...
The house is big and potentially charming but could use some interior make over - mostly a robust visit from great cleaning crew...
Thank you for your concerns. We are addressing all the items you mentioned. Thank You
