House, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Beds for 6)

Beautiful new furnished 3 bedroom home with great room, sitting area, full kitchen with all the dishes, pots and pans you will need. The master bedroom has a separate full bathroom. The two upstairs bedrooms share a full bathroom and each has a covered patio out sliding doors. There is also a guest bathroom on the first level. 2 Queen beds and a double are comfortable. All towels and linens provided and care-takers wash the linens after departure.

Caretakers live in a casita on the property, speak English well and have a booking agency for tours in the Monteverde area or elsewhere is Costa Rica. A covered patio off of the dining area is perfect for a barbeque dinner or just to sit and look at the beautiful view, sipping wine and watching the birds. The house is on a 2000 square meter property (1/2 acre) just down from the continental divide. Hear howler monkeys in the forests nearby. The temperature here in the mountains is a comfortable temperate climate year round.

The house is 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) from Santa Elena, which has grocery stores, restaurants and various shops.

Monteverde is a key destination because of the several cloud forest reserves where tourists can hike or take guided tours. There are numerous other attractions, including night hikes, birding tours, exciting zip lines through the forest canopy, canopy bridge hikes, coffee plantation tours, waterfalls, and animal reserves. Monteverde is one of the only places in the world to see the Resplendent Quetzel, perhaps the most beautiful bird in the world. There are numerous other species of birds to see, including a number of types of Tucans. Wild life abounds.

About the Owner

With our 5 children grown, we wanted a place in Costa Rica. Of all of the places that we have traveled, none have appealed to us as much as Costa Rica. When we come to Costa Rica, we sometimes stare at one another and declare, 'We just love it here.'

Perfect combination of comfort, price and location for the conscientious/economical traveler

  • 5 of 5
We were a group of five who found Casa Amigos almost perfect with its three bedrooms, two full baths, half bath and a very large kitchen, dining and living area. As the nights became cool and windy we huddled under the lovely comforters that we found in the upstairs linen closet. Overall, the place is clean, spacious and well equipped.

Once we described in detail our phone and internet problems the caretaker had an ICE tech up to the house within an hour and those problems were resolved with a new cable connection. Phone and internet worked perfectly for the rest of our stay.

Yes, the area can get quite those of us who have been there before it seem like more than we remembered. Yet, that is part of the charm of the area. We had wonderful hikes (day and night), birding, etc. We enjoyed coming back to Casa Amiga for an evening of cards and friendship. This will be our place of choice when we return with other visitors from the states.

Comfortable Home close to Monteverde and Santa Elena Areas

  • 4 of 5
This house became our home away from home for our family of 4 for 4 nights. The house was very comfortable and clean and the hosts provided a wonderful Costa Rican dinner for our 1st night (extra charge). This was a great home base while we explored the area. Only a few notes, while we were there the internet was not working (upon our return have notified the owners) and this area can become fairly windy especially at night. If noise bothers you at night I would recommend bringing earplugs (it is worse in the 2 upstairs bedrooms).

Wonderful Monteverde home!

This well-equipped house was a great place to stay for my family of 5 adults. Ken provided very helpful information via e-mail ahead of time and the on-site caretakers were kind and welcoming. This was a great "home-base" for us during our travels in the Monteverde area. Thank you Ken and Carol!

Great Place in Monteverde

Beautiful, spacious house just outside Monteverde (2 min drive). A great jumping off point for all Monteverde has to offer. The family who takes care of the house was very pleasant/helpful, and also prepared a fantastic meal for us one night as well. Thanks!

We stayed here in late Dec\early January with my parents and 2 children. This home is a gem. It is spacious yet cozy. It is furnished with lovely items. We enjoyed the books and games provided in the evenings.
The communication with Ken prior to travel was very helpful, and he was quick to answer any additional questions I e-mailed him.
Unfortunately, Alex and Shirley were on vacation while we were there so we were not able to enjoy their services.
The only complaint\caution I would mention is the wind. It literally HOWLED the whole time we were there, even at night. We didn't sleep well from the wind gusting and windows rattling. We were not able to sit outside at all which was a big disappointment. The wind didn't seem as bad in other areas nearby. The locals said this time of the year is typically windy; we were not expecting it.
Overall, it was a great place to be.

What a wonderful experience!

My husband and I cannot say enough great things about this home, Ken and Carol, Alex, Shirley, Allison and, even, Dokey, the dog.
Ken communication with us prior to arriving was excellent - he gave us exact description of everything we needed to know and made wonderful suggestions which made our trip even more pleasant.
Alex, Shirley and Allison were a joy to be around - Alex arranged all our tours which were fabulous. On three of our tours, we had Adrian as our guide - I would suggest you ask for him - he was very knowledgeable about plants, animals, etc. He even found a male Quetzal for us to see - this is a very elusive bird and quite an event to see one.
Definitely do two things while you are here - go on Alex's night tour and have Shirley and Allison fix a Costa Rican dinner for you - yummy!
The house is gorgeous - plenty of room, beautiful views from all rooms.
We felt such a sense of community in Monteverde and Santa Elena. Everyone was so gracious, warm and willing to help us with any questions or needs we might have had. I think if you lived there for a month you would be accepted as member of this pleasant community.
This was our first stop in Costa Rica so we didn't have the money exchange down yet. On numerous occasions my husband would give the taxi driver, grocery clerk, waiters money only to have them give him money back telling him he had over paid them. What lovely people!
We would be delighted to go back there anytime!
Pura Vida!

We have developed a number of friendships, some with other foreigners but mostly with Ticos. It is an easy country to travel in. Dollars are accepted everywhere and in most places English is spoken. The forest across from our property is known for the variety of birds.
