Casa Laguna Vista

Casa Laguna Vista

Overview

Property Details

Updated: Oct 7, 2014
Two-bedroom two-bath home with a great view of the Placencia Lagoon.

Across the Placencia Road from the Caribbean Sea, waiting for you on the shores of the Placencia Lagoon is this modern two-bedroom two-bath vacation home known as Casa Laguna Vista. It offers a splendid view of the Maya Mountains, the Placencia Lagoon and, across the road, the Caribbean.

Located on the Placencia Peninsula at Mile Marker 14 in the Plantation Subdivision, this home puts you in the middle of all the things you want to do when you vacation in Belize. Take a 15 minute trip to the Placencia Village and its famous sidewalk or dine at one of the many restaurants along the way. Several dive shops and tour operators in the village offer snorkling and diving trips to the Barrier Reef or Laughing Bird Caye.

Or you can arrange a jungle tour to the Jaguar Preserve (or drive yourself). The tour operators will pick you up at the house so you can enjoy the view of the lagoon and the Maya Mountains while you wait for your native guide. Other activities could include a drive up the very scenic Hummingbird Highway, which winds its way through the Maya Mountains, to Belmopan, the capitol of Belize, for lunch; or you could skip lunch and have a cup of Belizean Coffee and a cinnamon roll at Kropf's Mennonite Bakery, which is located somewhere near the midpoint of the drive up the mountains.

Other trips could include a trip to Red Bank and a two hour trek through the jungle to the nesting grounds of the Scarlet McCaws, an endangered species of very colorful parrots native to Belize and Guatemala. This is a difficult trip to organize and not all guides can take you there, but its a magnificent sight if you can get there.

Or, if all else fails, just sleep in and let the noisy ChaChaLaca birds wake you up in the mornings and just stay at the casa and enjoy the view. The Casa is air-conditioned and fully equipped with two televisions, cable TV channels, a washer and dryer, and a WiFi network for your laptop.

A Marvelous Week!

  • 5 of 5
Our week-long stay at Casa Laguna Vista was marvelous as was our time in the wonderful little country of Belize. We totally enjoyed the lovely house with all of its amenities. Everything was as advertised. The home is "like new" and very well appointed. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the kitchen very much. The front and back porches were much used. We definitely plan to return to Belize and again make Casa Laguna Vista our base for sightseeing.

Wonderful 30 days!

  • 4 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our month long stay at Casa Laguna! A very well built home with modern facilities. The washer/dryer was a must and we cooked most of our meals there. We rented a golf cart from Roberts Grove, as the location was 9 miles from the village of Placencia. We explored the entire peninsula and enjoyed an occasional meal at Maya Bistro, Singing Sands, Green Parrot and Mangos. Loved all of them! Ever, from Sandhills Ltd picked us up from the airport and was a great help during our stay! We especially enjoyed the deck facing the lagoon, with the beautiful view of the mountains! We borrowed two plastic chairs and used them on the dock and tried some fishing off of the private dock, but no nibbles. If a kayak would have been included, we would have been kayaking every day, but managed to rent one for a day from Singing Sands. Very enjoyable! We brought our iPad and the service was spotty at times. We tried it in the guest bedroom, but service seemed non existent later in the day and evening. The mornings were much better for service. We kept in touch with our children by using it at the Bistro and in Placencia, so it wasn't an issue. There is quite a bit of construction going on north and south of the property, so the trucks and busy traffic starts at 6 a.m. and runs all day. Everybody seems to watch out for the carts, bikes, walkers, so we always felt safe when we ventured out every day. The grocery store was very handy also. We never encountered problems with insects like was mentioned in an earlier post, nor was the bathtub stopper an issue! Of course, the good ole sand flies are always interesting. I would advise putting on Skin so Soft first thing in a.m. Every day. They don't seem to like oily skin! All in all, we so appreciated our home away from home for a month, especially since the article cold was wrecking havoc back home! You'd better "Belize" we will be back! Thank you to the Texas owners for your wonderful home!

Great Value - As Advertized

  • 5 of 5
A modern well-built house with modern amenities. Everything was as advertised. A great value. It was a nice change for us after staying in “funky” accommodations in Hopkins. Be aware this is not beach property. It is on the lagoon side and has a small boat dock. It's about 10 miles to Placentia and a mile or so to the grocery store.

Not as Described

  • 2 of 5
As of 3 or 4 days prior to arriving, I still had not heard from anyone on how to go about getting to the condo. I finally had to contact management, not a particularly good start. The home is really quite nice, well constructed. The view of the lagoon from the lanai is very nice. The lagoon is not so nice. It is very murky and I wouldn't walk in it. I like to see the bottom. I've been in lagoons before, but nothing like this one. Do not expect any amenities, such as soap, shampoo, dishwasher detergent, or laundry detergent (unless someone before you left some). There is a beautiful bathtub in the master bath, but it won't hold water, so don't count on bathing. I like to bathe and having a tub was an important reason for picking this house. One TV didn't work, but not a huge deal. What was a huge deal was no WiFi. The manager will tell you that isn't true, that there was something wrong with my computer. It's interesting that it worked in every WiFi area I tried to use it in, except this home. That includes 8 cities within Belize, three airports and the last resort I stayed at on Ambergris Caye. If you have an IPad, then you know how dependable they are. The next part is what I consider deliberate deception. You know the beautiful Caribbean water that is supposed to be just across the road, well the Caribbean is there. But don't expect a nice beach anywhere near you, don't expect that beautiful turquoise water like the one displayed with the beautiful women on the beach. That is Laughing Bird Caye, probably 11 miles or so across the water. The final straw were the insects. I was aware of the insects before arriving, so I brought a good repellent and used it twice a day. I only washed it off for bed, yet each morning I would have 6 or 7 new bites. The last night I was there, I took a nap in the evening. When I awoke, I had all kinds of little white insects on my pant legs and on and in my glass of soda. After looking around, I found them on many surfaces. I sent a video of them to the manager and was told, "of course, there are insects, it's a jungle." I expected lots of insects outside, but I expected the inside would be relatively free of bugs.

If you are looking for nice beaches, pretty water and lots to do, then go further up the coast. Ambergris Caye was spectacular.

Owner's Response: As the owner of the property I receive a copy of all emails from those with reservations both before and during their stay. I received a copy of the email about this individuals concern about getting to the property and sent him explicit driving directions. I never received any response. My local property manager was out of the country for a family visit so I was concerned.

After this individual complained I visited the property and almost everything was rectified. My lap top worked off the WiFi system as it always has. My wife's IPAD would only work in the guest bedroom where the WiFi router and modem are located. There is desk in that room for use while internet surfing. The metal rods in the concrete walls interfere with the transmission of the signal but I've had contractors and friends access the internet via the WiFi system from their vehicles outside.

I had some workmen install a shelf in the master bedroom for the TV there and the cord on the TV was about six inches too short and they left it. During my visit we purchased a short extension cord and repaired that problem. We also installed a radio and speaker system in the living room entertainment center to provide a better quality sound and it worked great.

The lagoon is a lagoon and I can't improve the water but I can attest that it is full of fish and we caught several.

When my family and I arrived we found all the amenities we've always found at the house including soap, toilet paper and etc. All we had to buy were groceries. We also left additional towels.

We're really sorry this individual did not enjoy his stay and the local property manager has made arrangements to provide transportation from the Placencia Airport to the Singing Sands Inn, where all guest must go to check in and get the keys to the house.

We've learned from this experience and the local property management folks at the Singing Sands Inn will be more communicative in the future.

However, please note that Casa Laguna Vista is more of a couples and family retreat than anything else. It provides a quiet and serene environment for those types of groups. If you're looking for cocktails on the beach you would be better served elsewhere. If you have any questions feel free to contact the management and they will respond truthfully and honestly I'm sure. We want you to enjoy your stay in Belize even if you do not stay at Casa Laguna Vista.

A Great Find!!!!

  • 5 of 5
Great location - close enough for convvenience, far enough for quiet and privacy.

Virtually new and squeaky clean AND everything works. Our stay was troublefree and most enjoyable.

The Manager and staff at Singing Sands were most helpful -- from assisting with a rent-car problem to helping schedule very successful fishing and caveing trips. The facilities at nearby Singing Sands resort are great, especially the restraunt

Sunsets over the lagoon, viewed from the upper deck, were marvelous.

casa laguna vista fun

  • 5 of 5
This home has everything as advetised! We had a great time at Casa Laguna Vista. You should have a vehicle of some sort as it is a fair distance from everything. We had a golf cart, and although it got us where we needed to go, it took awhile. The home is beautiful, safe and secure. The manager allowed us to use the facilities at Singing Sands, which were amazing. The restuarant was fabulous as was the service. The beach/dock were great. We took a tour with Roberts Grove to Silk Cayes which was the highlight of our trip. Dont miss it! The home has everything you might want/need for a comfortable, safe stay in the Maya Beach area. Highly recommend!
