Attractive, comfortable, serene
The furnishings, the comfortable beds, linens, kitchen supplies and the cleanliness of the house get an A+. We loved it and highly recommend it. That being said, our initial impression was one of great disappointment as we felt we had been misled by the advertising. The "curb" appeal is sorely lacking. In the picture the home appears to be in a forest which is why we chose it - to be out in nature. Although the back drop is a wooded area, the view from the front porch sadly is clear cut forest. The "impressionistic" welcome we got at one of the entrances was of a "neighborhood" of rusted vehicles on cinderblocks. Again the visual was disturbing and contrasts with the expectation from the photos. This being said, once we settled in, we enjoyed ourselves. The house has an extraordinary floor plan that allowed the two of us to get lost in our own activities and meet up in the kitchen for evening Scrabble. Problems: We visited during an unseasonal hot spell and there was no AC- which we did not expect to have considering the geography. But on arrival, the temperature of the house was unbearable. We did not open the doors and windows because it was near 100 degrees outside. With fans going - they are in every room - we eventually could sit comfortably only in the bedrooms at the back of the house. By keeping most of the windows open during the night, we alleviated that problem for the rest of our stay (Unfortunately, the window in our bedroom - guest room - was too difficult to open and close that we didn't use it after the first night.) Recommendations: A dimmer for the chandelier above the dining room table would be helpful as we were "blinded" by the light. But we simply unscrewed half the bulbs and we were happy. Also, parental controls were on the TV so we could not watch the few shows we like. Especially since it was the week of the Democratic convention and we would have liked to viewed the coverage on Comedy Central. We visited the cafe down the road several times - the food was great and the owners and their family were greater. We were so impressed with the friendliness of the people in this area. We hiked every day in magnificent forests, up to glaciers, and swam in pristine lakes. We had a five star vacation and the house is a five star house, but sadly in a two star vista. Also, we were not at all happy with Homeway. However, Donna, the owner picked up the slack and was helpful and gracious.
