We are Mitch and Betty Sue Ratliff. Upon reading our Love Story listed in part here you will know a little something about us. It is our pleasure in life to serve our Lord Jesus Christ and to serve our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Here is part of our story. “Mitch when relocated to Roanoke Virginia with his wife of 30 years. His wife became very ill shortly after their arrival and was hospitalized with the diagnosis of terminal liver cancer. Betty Sue, a widow and a nurse working at the cancer center became acquainted with Mitch’s wife by being her nurse and conducting bible studies with her. When Mitch’s wife realized that she would not survive, she urged him to marry again, and suggested that he consider someone like Betty Sue. After his wife passed away, Mitch was deeply depressed. His daughter who also knew Betty Sue through the bible study urged him to communicate with her since she was also depressed about the loss of her husband. With much hesitation, Mitch & Betty Sue finally met for coffee. It was at this point that The Lord intervened. After a short romance their hearts were united and Aurora (new beginning) was created for them. God is good.”
Our union has prospered now for 22 years during which time we have dedicated ourselves to serving the Lord. Our home (Aurora Manor) in Bedford County Virginia was built twelve years ago and is dedicated to servings God’s people. The primary focus is on providing a place for traveling missionaries and their families. Although it’s proximity to Liberty University has generated a ministry to the University students particularly those who have goals to become missionaries. We are now looking to see what the Lord will have us do in South Carolina with our newly purchased beach home. We hope to have it used as a place of rest and replenishment for our brothers and sisters in Christ, Pastors, Missionaries and even for small church retreats.
Mitch and Betty, what a wonderful time we had staying in you new Hilton Head Island beach home. We especially enjoyed the closeness to the two parks and our ability to walk to and fro. The Burk’s Beach walk way at the Marriott Surf Watch was fantastic. Jim enjoyed looking at the many birds and reading the many posting on the boardwalk about the estuary system. Of course we made great daily use of the bikes you so graciously provided for our use. Jim as a Boy Scout leader is already making plans for how he can return with a few of his scouts. (Since your home can sleep 10 people, would that be ok?) On another note, Betty it is so obvious that you are an expert in decoration and design. The house’ interior design provides complete openness for great family activities. I cannot tell you what a pleasure it is to be in this fantastic home. God has surely blessed you and Mitch. Thank you for sharing with us.
“It was a difficult task to find our perfect place on Hilton Head Island since the entire island is most desirable. We wanted a house where 8-10 people could comfortable sleep and one that would be in a private setting, yet be a short walk to the beach. It needed to also be convenient to shopping and the many island amenities, including parks and playgrounds. Praise God, we found it. Our new beach home (Aurora Manor South) has all those features. Being located next to the Marriott Surf Watch Resort on a dead end street. We have the privacy of the dead end street and a house surrounded by large pine trees and vegetation providing complete privacy for the house. and a bonus of sharing the beach access with Marriott Surf Watch Resort including full use of the boardwalk and the bar and grill located at the edge of the sand. Oh! yes, Aurora Manor South is less than a 5 minute walk from two of the best parks on the island. Hilton Head's newest and biggest park Chaplin Park is one of these and there we have access to basketball courts, lighted tennis courts, soccer and baseball fields, large shaded children's playgrounds, walking/biking trails and even a fenced in doggy park...ALL FREE OF CHARGE! All this and still centrally located, only a short drive away from Hilton Head's best shopping, dining and world-famous golf courses. We feel totally blessed with this fabulous home and location.”
Our beach home is just a short walk (3-4 minutes) on a beautiful wooden boardwalk shared by the Marriott Surf Watch Resort to the sand (unless you stop at the beach bar for a cool drink or snack on the way). We also have a wonderful playground just down the street and through the woods (a 3-4 minute walk). Hilton Head Island’s new world class recreational park with tennis, basketball, soccer, and walking trails (use is totally free) is only a short walk in the other direction (less than 5 minutes). If you like to catch your own seafood, bring you line and catch some blue crabs in Foley Creek (5-10 minute walk). Less than one mile away you will find a fun mini-golf course and an adventure center for kids. We are also steps away from the bike path that will take you on family friendly trails which wind across the island. Just a bike ride or short car ride away you will find Shelter Cove Marina which has boating, fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking, a grocery store, shops, a mall, and many dining and entertainment options. Hilton Head’s world famous golf courses are very convenient to the home. Our home is centrally located and is the best place on the island to be. It's convenient to everything the island has to offer!

“Very private. Nestled in tall pines on a dead end street. Private, but only 300 yards to the ocean. Walking to the beach across estuary on the board walk is a treat in itself. Many tropical birds and plants can be seen on each trip to the beach. The beach tends to be less crowded than other areas on the island. Being between two fantastic parks for participating in virtually all sports is fantastic. Tennis anyone.”
