Guestbook comments from the manager

Every once in a while, a guest of such congenial nature comes along that I think "I wish this guest were my full-time neighbor, so that I could continue developing the easy exchanges we began during their short tenure at my Vacation Rental. Lance is just such a guest. From the beginning of our online "meeting" and throughout the length of his entire stay, I found him to be extremely easy to get alone with, patient, and simply a pleasure to talk to. If Lance told me tomorrow that he needed immediate accommodations, I would go out of my way to make it happen. Lance and his party treated my house with great care. It was left nearly as clean as it was when they checked in (and I always have the house professionally cleaned prior each guest's arrival). If Lance is looking to rent in your neighborhood, don't hesitate to accept his offer. As a host, you will not be disappointed.

Let the past be the past

  • 5 of 5
Mr. James has an excellent little home he rents out here. Peace of mind is the first thing you get when you find out you can park 2 cars in the enclosed fencing. The neighborhood is very quiet and tidy. Problems that might have arisen...even if it was my fault...was taken care of within 1 phone call I brought my wife and 6 others down to celebrate her 50th birthday. It was awesome. Plenty of room even with only 1 full bath it was easy to get around each other. We did not want to get "Bourbon faced" and drive home so United taxi took us and brought us back for about $14. literally$2.50 a person each way. The reviews that were written before are old and I can assure you all has been fixed. House has been tastefully done and is in great shape. Every negative comment was either fixed or upgraded. DO NOT be afraid to rent this house. I have never met Mr. James but can assure you I will be coming back at least 2-3 times a year. Thank you for everything.

Great Rental

  • 5 of 5
Place was in great condition with plenty of room to move around. Much better than being stuck in a small hotel room. We had seven guys staying and each had their own sleeping space. Will definitely stay here next time in the big easy.

Very comfortable and good quality for the price

  • 5 of 5
My children and grandchildren stayed here for two nights. Wonderful accommodations, and we are very picky. It was very clean, had everything we needed, the wifi was good, media room was perfect for the kids, and Ashley is correct, they have cleaned everything. Comfortable bedding and the kids loved the bunk beds. The neighbors were friendly and the area has recently been renovated.

Native New Orleanian in town for a UNO event

  • 2 of 5
Front Exterior:
We were pleased to see all of the updates to the neighborhood, considering the catastrophic damage to the neighborhood from Katrina. The house was very nice from the outside.
Interior:
Furniture was oversized and dirty.
Living room:
Although small and cramped, it was fairly nice. It was strange to see the dining room completely open. It would have made more sense to extend the living room furniture. The Big Lots attempt at African décor was over reaching and ridiculous looking. It was set up for tourists who knew nothing about the local culture.
Bedrooms: The carpeting looked like it was at least 20 years old. There were huge black, brown and gray stains covering all of carpets. I usually walk in a house and take my shoes off. In this house, I had to put shoes on!
Master bedroom: Really disgusting. The material on the footboard was ripped and the bedding was disgusting. There were white crusty stains on the comforter, the sheets were so old, they kept coming undone from the mattress and there weren't enough pillowcases for the pillows.
Shared bathroom:
The bathroom was okay, until getting into the shower. The mold was so bad on the shower curtain, it was pinching it together. We purchased a large bottle of Tilex, and had to empty it to clean the shower to make it bearable.
Kitchen:
The kitchen table was so gross that the wood rim around the glass was encrusted with old bobby pins, dust, old food and who knows what else. It was so oversized for the kitchen, there was not enough room for all of us to sit around it, and the wall was covered in stains from where previous tenants pushed it against the wall. Although the kitchen was nicely updated, there were not enough dishes for all of us to use.
Back room:
Although large, the card table was stuck against the wall, due to the oversized, sticky and unsuitable for sitting couch.
Backyard:
The parking was ample for two cars, when we played musical cars.
The gate was poorly designed. It was extremely difficult to open and close. You have to close the gate and then walk through the house to the front door in order to close the gate.
Miscellaneous:
The Wi-Fi password did not work for three laptops, two phones and tablet.
Even though each TV had a remote, only one of them in the house had working batteries.
The agent was great. She was okay with us waking her up at 4 am to see how to fix an issue with the lock on the front door.

Owner's Response: Karen,

Thank you for taking the time to offer constructive criticism and we apologize for any challenges which were avoidable.

Please note below how we have used your comments to better the experience of future guest.

Front Exterior and neighborhood:

Thank you for your kind words regarding the house exterior and the vast improvement in the look and feel of the neighborhood since 2005.

Interior: I am sorry that the condition of some of the carpets and furniture did not meet your expectation but this was the first time we have heard that complaint. Please note that the carpets and furniture are steam cleaned regularly and were just cleaned (removing any stains in the carpet) in July.

Living room: The furniture is not extended in the living room in order to leave room for an air mattress. There is now a tasteful and very comfortable queen size sofa sleeper (not yet pictured) in that space and since the living room is large there is still room for an air mattress. The addition of the sofa sleeper now allows us to sleep nine without the use of any of the air mattresses.

Comforter and Bedding: Most guest have been pleased with our decor but we appreciate and take serious all your constructive criticism. Therefore, as of two weeks ago all of the bedding has been replaced with beautiful new comforters, sheets, pillows, and pillow cases (not yet pictured).

Shower and Kitchen table: The whole house is throughly cleaned after each stay. In light of your comments, we replaced the shower curtain and gave the whole house, but especially the shower and kitchen table a thorough cleaning. In July, and as needed, we touch up the paint job to deal with guest inadvertently brushing the kitchen table against the wall.

Miscellaneous: The keyless entry lock continues to work well, the Wi-Fi password and TV remotes are in fine working order, all batteries have been changed, and we keep extra batteries at the house.

Once again we apologize for any inconvenience and thanks for taking the time to help us to improve the comfort and vacation experience of our guest.

3 Family Weekend Stay

  • 5 of 5
We had 11 people between 3 families. We rented the house for a couple of nights before we left out on a cruise. The house had everything we needed except it was short on towels for 11 people (and I should have called Ashley). Great proximity to places to see and eat. Liked being able to park the car inside the fence. The house was clean and nice. Might be time for some new mattresses on the queen & king bed and some extra sets of sheets for the additional blow up beds. Overall, we were very pleased and would stay here again.

Mulit-generation Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5
We enjoyed our stay very much. The fruit trees are a delightful perk! For the most part the property is clean and well equipped. We did have a few palmetto bugs and ants, but that is somewhat expected for NOLA. Needs a few minor amenities such as a can opener, some additional dishes, mirrors in bedrooms, and mattress covers on the beds. We were a little disappointed in the location and proximity to public transportation...a car is almost a must if you are planning to see popular tourist attractions. Great location to City Park Festivals.
