Two-story Villa, 3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths. Sleeps 6

Casa Solipaz, the premier property in the gated community of Armonia Eco-Village, offers constant breezes, mesmerizing ocean and mountain views, and a cooling, salt water infinity pool.

Situated at the highest point of this 25-acre, lush community, the home offers numerous fans as well as energy-efficient air-conditioning in each room.

Wake up to stunning ocean views from any of the three bedrooms.

The large upstairs master bedroom features a shower that looks out onto the sea. Practice yoga on the spacious, private patio located just outside the bedroom’s large sliding glass doors. Or just relax into the cushions of our outdoor furniture.

The downstairs en suite bedrooms have charms of their own. The poolside bedroom offers its own patio, perfect for reading or just soaking in the view while sitting in comfy, teak Adirondack chairs. The second downstairs bedroom has an “outdoor” shower with eye-level screened windows on three sides and stained-glass window insets throughout (no worries - only the monkeys and parrots can see in!).

The kitchen highlights include island cabinets made from guanacaste, the national tree of Costa Rica. The tree had fallen naturally in the jungle; a permit was required to remove it and use the wood. The doors throughout the home are constructed from farmed laurel, continuing the home’s Eco-friendly theme. The entire house and pool are solar-powered in keeping with Costa Rica’s national goal of carbon neutrality.

The fully functional kitchen offers a wide variety of cooking utensils, pots, pans, fridge, blender, coffee maker, teapot, griddle, toaster, dishwasher and microwave oven. Cook inside or make a pizza in our wood-fired pizza oven located on the patio in the back of the house (complete instructions from an experienced local pizza maker included!).

The rancho, located down the hill in front of the house, has a mini-fridge for storing cool drinks and is another great spot to hang out or sunbathe on the home’s many chaise lounges.

Bio-diverse gardens enhance the front of the house, filled with a variety of floral and palm species. At night, the gardens are illuminated by energy-efficient lighting which casts warm shadows over the landscape.

Bring your binoculars with you if you decide to hike down the trails behind the house to the river that runs through Armonia Eco-Village.

Iguanas, white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, armadillos, pizotes, sloths, deer, foxes, puma, and a huge variety of birds - including toucan, parrots, hummingbirds, motmots, tanagers, and pelicans - live in the community and regularly visit our property.

A wonderful groundskeeper, and Gini, our terrific property manager who speaks english, french and spanish, will ensure that your stay here is memorable. She can help you arrange various excursions, including surfing, fishing, boating, kayaking, snorkeling, cycling, horseback riding, birdwatching, hiking, zip-lining and golfing.

Also ask about the many fine restaurants in the area. La Playa de los Artistas is our personal favorite; sitting right on the beach, you might be lucky enough to see dolphins dancing as you enjoy world-class cuisine.

About the Owner

We first visited Costa Rica in 2008 and were immediately enchanted by the lovely people, slower lifestyle, incredible climate and wonderful food.

From the start, we felt comfortable here. So after a few more visits, we decided to look for a piece of land on which to build Casa Solipaz (House of Sun and Peace).

Standing atop our hill in Armonia Eco-Village, we were awed by the incredible ocean and jungle views as well as the constant, cooling breezes.

We were also impressed with Armonia's focus on protecting the environment; the small community has been carefully constructed with the least possible intrusion on the jungle and its many denizens.

We knew this would be the site of our second home, one we would like to share with others when we cannot be in residence.

Please enjoy the home's tranquility, as well as the area's many fun, exciting attractions!

Casa Solipaz....Pure Bliss

  • 5 of 5
Our stay at Casa Solipaz was absolutely perfect! Kathy and Gini were both so kind and helpful in every aspect; and my what a beauuutiful home and property. PRICELESS veiws of the ocean, sunrise, sunset, moon rise. We actually saw more wildlife at the house than hiking the Cabo Blanco nature reserve. The home was very accommodating; everything we could have needed and more. Oh, and did I mention you can enjoy all these views and wildlife right from the salt water infinity pool? Super close to the beach and town of Montezuma, and very close commute to the next town with plenty of grocery stores, gas as well as a large bank. For our next trip to Montezuma, I certainly wont be looking any further for home/accommodations. Enjoy!

Owner's Response: Thanks, Scott,
I really appreciate your great review! We have so much wildlife at the house, sometimes right outside the bedroom windows. It's not unusual to see families of Howler or Capuchin monkeys scrambling through the trees, calling to each other, babies hanging onto their mother's backs. And pisotes, agoutis, white-tailed deer, and so much more! I've seen armadillos, all manner of lizards and iquana, and, of course, a huge variety of birds - all from our front patio.
Thanks for mentioning the views of the ocean. They are commanding, but very hard to capture in photos. I find that view to be mermerizing!
I look forward to having you and your family back one day soon as our guests.
Again, many thanks,
Tranquil Ocean View, Constant Breezes, Eco-Friendly!

Great place to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Costa Rica

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time at Solipaz. The house is wonderful, especially the outdoor areas. We loved being away from it all high above Montezuma. The constant breeze was great too.
The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and you're just a few minutes from Montezuma. We also ventured out one day to explore Playa Manzanillo, Hermosa, Del Carmen and Mal Pais on the West side of the peninsula. That was a nice day trip and I would highly recommend it, but a 4x4 is a must. We will definitely be back.

Owner's Response: Hi, Matt,
Thanks for the taking the time to give us such a nice review. You mentioned two of Casa Solipaz's most wonderful aspects: we are close enough to Montezuma's fun and activities, yet far enough away to enjoy the quiet and seclusion of the jungle, and the constant breezes on our hilltop are so very pleasant.
We do hope to see you back someday!
Many thanks,

Fantastic Fun, Awesome owner, would stay again

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I and our 4 sons from 10-17 years old stayed here for six days. (We emailed the owner and asked to stay an extra day and just paid her local caretaker - was awesome flexibility!) We added the extra day because we were having so much fun in the area, Montezuma is a blast. The house was fantastic and we cooked in the pizza oven 3 of the nights we were there - my boys loved making a fire and making pizzas! The pool is small but perfect to cool off at night. The view from the upper deck is a blast - all six of us sat on the couch up there and waited until we saw a shooting star! We highly recommend Indiana horse tours and had a delightful evening when the owner and her daughter joined us for pizza at our place and we were able to compare notes about our son and her daughter both doing an IB (International Baccalaureate) program in different countries. To go surfing, reach out directly to a fellow named Mauricio Sanchez - he is absolutely unbelievable and great with the kids. (If you go through one of the little agencies in town, they'll just take a cut of his pay.)

It is in a community of about 10 houses that are incredibly spread out and about 5 minutes drive "up the hill" from Montezuma. Would recommend you have a car. The furnishings were all first class and deluxe - there was no skimping as if this were a rental house. It is gorgeous throughout. Couldn't recommend this house enough to you.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your generous review! It was, of course, a pleasure to extend your vacation for a an extra day - very happy to have you as our guests at Casa Solipaz.
I'm glad you enjoyed the family fun of cooking in the pizza oven; we love it as well. Restaurant pizza just doesn't seem as good any more!
I am sitting by Casa Solipaz's lovely horizon pool as I write this, having escaped here with my daughter for a few days away from the snow at home - it's so hard to leave tomorrow. This is a house that was built with a lot of love and we are grateful to share it with nice folks like yourselves who appreciate its magic.
The house and Montezuma have so much to offer. We hope to have you as our guests again one day.
Many thanks again,

Casa Solipaz is Amazing! Spectacular! Relaxing! Gorgeous Home! Infinity Pool! Wonderful Owner!

Like another reviewer-only 2500 words may not be enough to convey how special this home truly is! From the first email to the owners I knew that I found a special property to rent for our first trip to Costa Rica. Kathy was so helpful and kind and offered many suggestions regarding transportation to the house, day trip ideas, but mostly her kindness and prompt reply to any small questions we had. The pictures on the VRBO website take your breath away, but in person it is exactly if not better than the pictures if that is possible! Our family of 4 just returned from our stay and are already planning when we can return:) Gini who is the caretaker is amazing! She coordinated our arrival and was there to greet us and answer any questions, give us a tour and tell us about the wildlife right outside our doors! Our daughter had been studying at the local college in Puntarenas in the fall, and one of her favorite areas was Montezuma. When I found Casa Solipaz I knew it was the right place for us. Our family decided not to rent a car, and in hindsight maybe we should have - but in reality we loved walking down the hill to the village of Montezuma, and always took a taxi "home". We took taxis to Santa Teresa, Cabo Blanco and felt that was perfect for us. Our daughter is fluent in Spanish which was so very helpful too, but you could manage if you speak little or no spanish. People are so very friendly and helpful everywhere you go. Each bedroom feels like a master suite with a beautiful shower and bathroom, however, the master bedroom upstairs is beyond spectacular. The outdoor seating area was often a spot where I found my husband reading and taking in the jungle and ocean views. The breezes were so soft and tranquil. We heard howler monkeys daily and even saw one on our walk to town! The kitchen has every tool you can imagine, a pantry with essentials. The stainless steel appliances and gas stove were perfect. We loved having every meal on the gorgeous outdoor dining table. Breakfast was stunning and often we didn't want to venture out of the house! Poolside lounges were comfortable and you didn't want to leave. We used the Wood Pizza Oven twice - my husband's favorite - Yoga mats were provided and the kids took them to the "rancho" just below the pool and had a beautiful view just before sunset! I can't say enough wonderful things about our entire experience - start to finish. If you are looking for a rental near Montezuma - this is it!

Owner's Response: Hi, Joann,
Wow! Thanks for such a glowing review of our house! I am very happy you enjoyed your trip and we so look forward to having you back as our guests.
Gini said you and your family were lovely; it's always a pleasure to host great people at Casa Solipaz. One of the great features of the house is that it is close enough to town for numerous activities yet far enough away to ensure privacy.
And thank you for offering some of your photos - our pictures could use some updating.
Thanks again,

Escape from reality

  • 5 of 5
I would highly recommend this house and location to get away from it all. The house is beautiful. When we were there we lived outside. The views are fantastic and there's not a home in site. One night we were treated to a troop of howler monkeys right outside the house.
Words can't say enough about how helpful the property manager, Gini was. She helped us arrange anything we wanted to do, including having a chef come to house on my birthday and having fresh fish delivered to the house on another night.
While staying there we enjoyed zip lining, hiking to and swimming in the waterfalls, snorkeling and seeing dolphins and whales. Upon returning home everyday, it was lounging poolside and cocktails on the upstairs deck that had nearly an panaramic view.

Owner's Response: Hi, Diane,
Thank you so much for the great review! As always, Gini and the house are stars. We are so grateful for her help.
I am very happy that you enjoyed your stay. We agree that Chef Camilo is awesome as well! In fact, we are currently at the house and he is coming to cook for us tomorrow.
I hope we see you and your party here again one day; there is always so much to do in the area that a week is not long enough to do it all.
Once again, many thanks,

Amazing home with incredible views

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed in this amazing home and will definitely be coming back. Everything about this house was great and the views are simply incredible. We really appreciated how well stocked the house was and great cookware. We ate dinner everynight at the house and simply enjoyed the views from the pool and upper deck off the master bedroom. The beds were comfortable as well as the outdoor furniture. The property manager was great and was able to attend to our needs. This is a great place to stay and we definitely recommend staying here. Thanks for everything!!

Owner's Response: Caroline and Kevin,
Thanks for the great review! It was so nice to meet you both. I'm glad you enjoyed the house, the views, the horizon pool and the kitchen - we cook there often as well. It's nice, sometimes, to be able to stay in and enjoy a wonderful homemade meal. And, our guests always have the option of heading out to some awesome nearby restaurants. Best of both worlds.
We look forward to having you visit again one day soon.
Many thanks again,
Kathy and Kevin

From the Owner

Casa Solipaz was designed with the environment and the mesmerizing ocean view in mind. The house and pool are powered by the sun, and we have many eco-friendly fans. There are also energy-efficient air-conditioners in each room - but you will probably not need them on most days. Open doors and the sea breeze will provide Nature's own air-conditioning! The secluded area ensures quiet and privacy. Please use the outdoor pizza oven; precise instructions are included.
