About the Owner

I moved to New Orleans in 1993 to attend Tulane University. And the City that Care Forgot wasted no time sucking me in. As a young man, my Uptown neighborhood met my every want and need - a half block from Mardi Gras, a quick stumble to some of the best live music in the city at Tipitina's and Le Bon Temps, fine eats at Dick and Jenny's, and plenty of libations within striking distance. Now I am older, with three children, and though my needs have changed the neighborhood still provides - ice cream at the Creole Creamery, snowballs at Hansen's Sno-Bliz, two playgrounds, a children's library, and pizza. And of course Mardi Gras.

I have moved three times in the last 15 years. Never more than 6 blocks.

Mardi Gras Gem

My family spent the weekend at this property and it perfectly fit our needs to comfortably watch the uptown parades.
The house is in a great location to catch the beginning of the parades on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. (Thoth lines up in front of the house...the kids loved it.)
I highly recommend the property to anyone visiting the city.

Outstanding House and Outstanding Owner

  • 5 of 5
My wife, 2 year old son, and I stayed here January 31, 2015 - February 7, 2015. The house was exactly as advertised and depicted in the pictures. It was immaculately clean and well stocked with essentials. The location was terrific. 4 blocks to whole foods, Magazine Street and restaurants. An easy drive to everywhere. I was concerned with only on-street parking, but it was never an issue. We had a spot directly in front of the house every time we returned. I've seen someone else complain about the beds in a review here. We have stayed in a number of VRBO/Home Away rentals and the quality of beds always seems to be an issue. The beds in this house were actually very good compared to other places we have rented.

A positive note about the quality of Jeff Clary, the owner. The night we checked in we found the thermostat to be malfunctioning. I e-mailed Jeff early the next morning. He called me within an hour, apologized for the inconvenience and assured me that a reputable HVAC company with which he has worked for years would be at the house that afternoon. He was absolutely as good as his word. When we got back early that evening the thermostat was replaced and the problem solved. Any house (or hotel rental for that matter) can have an issue like this -- the measure of the quality of the operator is how they address a concern. Here, it was addressed professionally and quickly to our complete satisfaction. No more could reasonably be asked for.

We recommend this house highly.

The house was great with the exception of the beds. They were very uncomfortable and low to the ground. Parking was great along with the house was very clean.

Close to everything!

  • 5 of 5
Where to start. There were 6 of us (3 couples). We are all between 30-35. We drove for 10 hours to get to Nola from Daytona Beach, FL. We stayed at this beautiful home for 4 nights. It was on one of their more main streets in a nice neighborhood. We had an amazing time here! The house was amazing! It was clean and 10 times better than a hotel would have been. It was a really reasonable price as well! Close to everything. Nothing was more than a 10 minute drive from the house. For 6 of us it was maybe a 25.00 cab ride from this house to Bourbon St. One of our favorite tours while we were in town was the Voodoo Bone Lady Tours. We did the St. Louis Cemetary one. The guide really made it authentic New Orleans! We also did the Zoo, Aquarium, Casino, House of Shock (Halloween time only), The French Quarter, Bourbon St, Magazine St, etc. Everything was so close. We really had a wonderful time in New Orleans! Thank you Jeff for your awesome place! We will definitely stay here again!!

Amazing little quaint place!

  • 5 of 5
I'm originally from New Orleans, but the experience of living uptown makes me almost want to move back.
First of all the owners were very accommodating to letting us check in and check out at any time of the day if allowing. There were 4 girls so the 2 bathrooms were a plus!! Everyone loved the place and every art piece and furniture just added its own flare that reflected this quaint house.
The location is very accessible to downtown, Metairie, and chalmette even. Parking was so easy in front of the house at all times of the day, even 2 am.

The kitchen was well supplied with utensils if needed. Blankets and pillows were available for everyone. Towels were a bit rough on the skin, but better than nothing. Needed more face towels, but no big deal.

They had shampoo, conditioner, and a hair dryer to use. Wish they had some shower gel and hand soap in the kitchen. Cleaning supplies and a washer dryer are available if needed.
2 bed, a futon, and a couch were more than enough for 4 people. We prob could have fit 7 girls.

This was such a great place to rent and would love to come back and I'd definitely recommend to anyone else wanting a great place to stay uptown.

My husband and I stayed with our three year old and 14 month old (and my sister-in-law and brother came and stayed one night.) I highly recommend the property for families with children. We walked across the street for a delicious and easy lunch at Frankie and Johnny's. The walk to the zoo was a little longer than I anticipated, but not bad if you are used to walking around cities. Loved having two grocery stores nearby, it made dinner easy. The arrangement of the rooms was great. I put the baby to sleep in the back room closet (which is large enough for the pack-n-play) and the rest of us were able to stay up and visit without waking her. There is also a gas station in walking distance that we used to grab some late night beverages once the kids went to sleep. Parking was always available right in front which made getting kids in and out of the car easy. While you can get around without a car, it's easier with one. There is a great neighborhood park a few blocks away. We visited it two afternoons between dinner and bed time and my kids made friends with some locals while I visited with their parents. I highly recommend this house for a vacation to Nola with small children. There was even a pack-n-play! The owner gave great suggestions for things to do and how to get around. We will definitely be using the home again on our next visit!
