About the Owner

My wife and I purchased the cottage in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina flooded our home with 11.9 feet of water. After the Hurricane we moved 3 times in a little over a year. At that time we had not started rebuilding our home in Lakeview and decided that we needed a home to call our own knowing that the rebuilding would be long and tedious due to the lack of available contractors. Anne always dreamed of owning a Creole Cottage and even visualized this Cottage in her dreams. She road the neighborhood for weeks on end looking for the Cottage and one lucky day, there it was. She called me at work so excited she could hard contain herself and the rest is history. We were fortunate enough to purchase the Cottage and moved in in early 2006. We enjoyed living in the neighborhood for over two years until moving back home in 2008. We had a lovely friend in graduate school who treasured the Cottage live there until she completed her Ph.D. and relocated. So now we are ready to share this jewel of Esplanade Ridge with visitors from all over the world.

Blown away

  • 5 of 5
This cottage can only be described as gorgeous and relaxing, We opened the door to our private paradise. Every tiny decorating detail enhances your visual enjoyment and the back yard has been planned to give privacy with lots of plants around the fence line. Everything you could possibly need Anne and Charlie have supplied. Big fluffy towels, soap, laundry soap, movies and comfy throws to cuddle under. We were very impressed with the modern appliances and layout of the kitchen, Right around the corner is a great Italian restaurant, Nonna Mia, and after a long day of travel enjoyed the best pizza ever. The corner grocery is only a few steps further and has a great selection. We never moved our car for the entire stay . The transit bus is a short ride and transfer to the Canal Street Trolley and points beyond. We enjoyed meeting some of the neighbours who made us feel welcome to their neighbourhood. Anyone who is planning a trip to New Orleans couldn't do better than this beautiful cottage. We stayed in three VRBO this trip in different cities and this was by far the best

We simply loved this cottage. It came with two cruiser bikes that we rode all over New Orleans. The cottage was beautifully appointed and had everything we needed. We were so comfortable here. This cute place made for a perfect romantic getaway. We will be back!

Truly AMAZING! Best vacation ever!!

  • 5 of 5
For my first time in New Orleans I wasn't sure what to expect but I still had high expectations for an amazing trip! My husband had been previously when he was younger and stayed in the French Quarter. That idea did not appeal to me, as I wanted a much more relaxing, romantic, Louisiana lifestyle-sort of experience. I was so pleasantly surprised to get just that! We couldn't of been happier with the cottage! Every detail was taken care of. The cottage was comfortable, cute and immensely relaxing. Very warm and homey yet outfitted with the most luxurious items. The bed was amazing! So incredibly comfortable as well as the down filled couch and pillows. The bathroom towels-also amazingly soft and luxurious! There is something about being on vacation and being able to take a long hot shower or bath and being able to wrap yourself up in a huge fluffy white towel! It's the simple things right? The beautiful backyard was also one of our favorites. The weather was wonderful-balmy and warm at night. One of our favorite things to do was go for a bike ride around the neighborhood and come back to the cottage to relax and have a glass of wine in the backyard by candlelight. Super amazing and relaxing! I can't say enough great things about the cottage! It was truly the best decision. Beyond the cottage though, the neighborhood was absolutely charming, quaint, friendly and historically beautiful. The corner market had everything you could possibly need and more. A certain kind of Kombucha Tea that I love that is hard to find in big cities was readily available in this cute neighborhood market even! We fell in love with the French restaurant, Cafe Degas and frequented it often. Amazing food and very romantic! The whole feel and look of this area was reminiscent for me, of Portland, OR. Beautiful architecture, lush, green foliage, friendly people biking and walking everywhere....my husband and I spoke frequently of buying a place and moving here. It is just that wonderful! In fact we could of stayed in the cottage and area our whole trip, but wanting to see at least a little bit of New Orleans we gamely ventured out to the French Quarter, Frenchmans St, Bourbon St, swamp airboating, City Park and Jackson Square. All were super easy to get to. We mostly took cabs but also used the streetcar and of course walked mostly and biked. Overall a truly memorable experience! We are already planning our next trip!! We have fallen in love with the cottage and can't wait to go back!

A beautiful up to date, extremely clean home away from home.
Easy walk to little grocery stores and cofee shop.
Best kitchen. Would have liked to cook, but we were too busy.
Wonderful walking neighborhood.
Fenced in oasis of a back yard.
Comfy bed and linens.
2 tv's so husband and I could watch seperate programs.
Parking was always available somewhere on the street if not directly out front.
Great home owners.
I want to live in this home. We have often used VRBO in NOLA. All were nice, but this rental best fit our needs.

A Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I recently stayed in the cottage for four nights, at the beginning of a road trip that began in The South. Creole Cottage was the ideal place to stay as with our rental car it was easy to get most places from that address, with The French Quarter only a short drive away.Anne, the owner, was very helpful, providing us with any information we requested. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others, as our experience was very favourable.

A wonderful place to stay!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. It's in a wonderful, cozy neighborhood with nice restaurants. It was very clean and very well equipped. There is nothing negative to say other than we didn't get to stay longer!

Location

From the Owner

I spent the first 24 years of my life in this neighborhood until my wife and I married. We both dreamed of owning a cottage in this neighborhood and, for me, it was like coming home. This neighborhood and cottage is something you have to experience. It is a slice of heaven and we hope that you feel the same way about our Cottage and the neighborhood.

Located in the Heart of New Orleans, our Cottage is centrally located and just steps off Historic Esplanade Avenue. Our neighborhood is safe and within walking distance of the New Orleans Museum of Art in City Park, the Fairgrounds (Jazz Fest and horse racing), and 2 miles from the French Quarter. The neighborhood is a colorful gem and one of the most desirable areas of New Orleans.

We enjoy strolling to dinner or to have cocktails at Cafe Degas, Lola's, Nonna Mia, Liuzza's By the Track, or Santa Fe. You'll notice lots of locals enjoying our Alcee Fortier neighborhood park relaxing and enjoying the weather or maybe playing checkers! Around the corner you will find everything you need - all locally owned grocery stores, a wine store, spa, book store, and coffee shops.

From our cottage, there is no need to rent a car to explore New Orleans. Walk less then one block to catch the Esplanade Avenue/French Quarter bus into the French Quarter or enjoy the 5-block watch down Esplanade Avenue to City Park to catch the streetcar.

Getting around New Orleans by streetcar is a great way to see the city. Walk from the cottage to catch the street car in front of the majestic New Orleans Museum of Art. Streetcars in New Orleans offer and can be paid with exact change when you board. 1, 3, and 31-day unlimited ride Jazzy Passes are also available. The streetcar symbolizes the charm and romance of the City of New Orleans. This streetcar will take you along the scenic route to the CBD and the French Quarter/Aquarium of the Americas. You can then connect to streetcar lines to Uptown New Orleans, Tulane University and the Audubon Zoo. Or transfer to the streetcar that runs along the Mississippi River through the French Quarter. See the Quarter, the St. Louis Cathedral, Cafe du Monde, Jackson Square, and the French Market.

One of the most beautiful and enjoyable areas of New Orleans is City Park. Devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the 1300 Acre New Orleans City Park has been completely restored and expanded. City Park attractions: The New Orleans Museum of Art, Botanical Garden, Sculpture Garden, Boat and Bike Rentals, Tennis Center, Fishing, Picnic Shelters and very soon Miniature Golf! You can even enjoy Beignets and Cafe au Lait at Morning Call in the Park.

Visit their website for details.

Keep your walking shoes on and visit the Audubon Nature Institute's Audubon Zoo (my grandsons love the Cool Zoo sprinklers and water features), Aquarium of the Americas, Insectarium, IMAX Theatre, and the Audubon Park and Golf Course. More info at www.auduboninstitute.org.

Don't miss a visit to The National World War II Museum. The museum presents the American experience during the WWII era with moving personal stories, historic artifacts and powerful interactive displays. Visitors to the museum are encouraged to allocate roughly 2½ to 3 hours to tour the museum. An award-winning 4-D film, Beyond All Boundaries, is an overview of the war on every front. A variety of other multimedia displays are part of the museum's exhibits, notably dozens of video oral histories conducted with veterans by museum staff. The museum includes two restaurants, the American Sector and the Soda Shop, both operated by noted chef John Besh. www.nationalww2museum.org

And then there is....The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival! Imagine leisurely walking two blocks to the entrance to Jazz Fest! No hassles with traffic, parking...pure heaven. After an exciting day at the Fest, walk over to Liuzza's By The Track to continue partying or to one of the restaurants to carry on with the incredible food and beverages. Nothing beats this....HEAVENLY
