About the Owner
My wife and I purchased the cottage in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina flooded our home with 11.9 feet of water. After the Hurricane we moved 3 times in a little over a year. At that time we had not started rebuilding our home in Lakeview and decided that we needed a home to call our own knowing that the rebuilding would be long and tedious due to the lack of available contractors. Anne always dreamed of owning a Creole Cottage and even visualized this Cottage in her dreams. She road the neighborhood for weeks on end looking for the Cottage and one lucky day, there it was. She called me at work so excited she could hard contain herself and the rest is history. We were fortunate enough to purchase the Cottage and moved in in early 2006. We enjoyed living in the neighborhood for over two years until moving back home in 2008. We had a lovely friend in graduate school who treasured the Cottage live there until she completed her Ph.D. and relocated. So now we are ready to share this jewel of Esplanade Ridge with visitors from all over the world.

It is too far too walk anywhere, so a car is a must. I have been to New Orleans many times, so driving around was not bad for me. My guest was lost, he has not been there in 20 plus years. I usually stay in hotels, but this
cottage has many great things you can't get in a hotel.
Couldn't have been better!Couldn't have been better!
We took advantage of the kitchen making breakfast and lunch most days while dining out in the evenings. So many wonderful local eateries within walking distance.
The bed was extremely comfortable and spacious enough for 2 friends to share. This home is so clean and we'll decorated it felt like being at home.
We couldn't have asked for a more cozy, conveniently located, and wonderful place to stay. Anne and Charlie made it so EASY too!
I suggest visiting Swirl, the wine bar, for a tasting and cheese plate. Also, Liuzzas for their delicious gumbo! Lolas, for a nice tapas dinner (but get there early! It gets busy quick!). Take a walk through City Park (maybe visit the art museum that's there!) And definitely go to the cafe for cafe au lait and beignets after walking though the sculpture garden. Mmm. There's a neat cemetery down the street too With massive statues.
This is the perfect place for friends, a couple, single, and anyone of any age. I would absolutely come back!

“I spent the first 24 years of my life in this neighborhood until my wife and I married. We both dreamed of owning a cottage in this neighborhood and, for me, it was like coming home. This neighborhood and cottage is something you have to experience. It is a slice of heaven and we hope that you feel the same way about our Cottage and the neighborhood.”
Activity and Interests
Located in the Heart of New Orleans, our Cottage is centrally located and just steps off Historic Esplanade Avenue. Our neighborhood is safe and within walking distance of the New Orleans Museum of Art in City Park, the Fairgrounds (Jazz Fest and horse racing), and 2 miles from the French Quarter. The neighborhood is a colorful gem and one of the most desirable areas of New Orleans.
We enjoy strolling to dinner or to have cocktails at Cafe Degas, Lola's, Nonna Mia, Liuzza's By the Track, or Santa Fe. You'll notice lots of locals enjoying our Alcee Fortier neighborhood park relaxing and enjoying the weather or maybe playing checkers! Around the corner you will find everything you need - all locally owned grocery stores, a wine store, spa, book store, and coffee shops.
From our cottage, there is no need to rent a car to explore New Orleans. Walk less then one block to catch the Esplanade Avenue/French Quarter bus into the French Quarter or enjoy the 5-block watch down Esplanade Avenue to City Park to catch the streetcar.
Getting around New Orleans by streetcar is a great way to see the city. Walk from the cottage to catch the street car in front of the majestic New Orleans Museum of Art. Streetcars in New Orleans offer and can be paid with exact change when you board. 1, 3, and 31-day unlimited ride Jazzy Passes are also available. The streetcar symbolizes the charm and romance of the City of New Orleans. This streetcar will take you along the scenic route to the CBD and the French Quarter/Aquarium of the Americas. You can then connect to streetcar lines to Uptown New Orleans, Tulane University and the Audubon Zoo. Or transfer to the streetcar that runs along the Mississippi River through the French Quarter. See the Quarter, the St. Louis Cathedral, Cafe du Monde, Jackson Square, and the French Market.
One of the most beautiful and enjoyable areas of New Orleans is City Park. Devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the 1300 Acre New Orleans City Park has been completely restored and expanded. City Park attractions: The New Orleans Museum of Art, Botanical Garden, Sculpture Garden, Boat and Bike Rentals, Tennis Center, Fishing, Picnic Shelters and very soon Miniature Golf! You can even enjoy Beignets and Cafe au Lait at Morning Call in the Park.
Visit their website for details.
Keep your walking shoes on and visit the Audubon Nature Institute's Audubon Zoo (my grandsons love the Cool Zoo sprinklers and water features), Aquarium of the Americas, Insectarium, IMAX Theatre, and the Audubon Park and Golf Course. More info at www.auduboninstitute.org.
Don't miss a visit to The National World War II Museum. The museum presents the American experience during the WWII era with moving personal stories, historic artifacts and powerful interactive displays. Visitors to the museum are encouraged to allocate roughly 2½ to 3 hours to tour the museum. An award-winning 4-D film, Beyond All Boundaries, is an overview of the war on every front. A variety of other multimedia displays are part of the museum's exhibits, notably dozens of video oral histories conducted with veterans by museum staff. The museum includes two restaurants, the American Sector and the Soda Shop, both operated by noted chef John Besh. www.nationalww2museum.org
And then there is....The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival! Imagine leisurely walking two blocks to the entrance to Jazz Fest! No hassles with traffic, parking...pure heaven. After an exciting day at the Fest, walk over to Liuzza's By The Track to continue partying or to one of the restaurants to carry on with the incredible food and beverages. Nothing beats this....HEAVENLY
