3 Bedroom, 2 Bath Custom Home Close To Yosemite and Mariposa.

This newly constructed custom home is just 45 minutes from Yosemite and 1 mile from the historic gold rush town of Mariposa.

Comfortable and clean, my house will accommodate 6 people in bedrooms and up to 10 people total.

It has an easy living, open floor plan with plenty of space to visit, enjoy meals together, or just rest up from the day's adventures.

Historical downtown Mariposa is 1 mile away. Visit the California State mineral museum, or the State's oldest operating courthouse. There are ample shopping opportunities, a variety of restaurants and many excellent antique stores and boutiques.

Public transportation (YARTS) from Mariposa is a convenient, stress-free way to travel to Yosemite. Bus fare includes admission into the park.

This is my home.

With the help of family and friends, I cleared the land and built the house. I have lived in it for the last three years while finishing up the landscaping.

I am visiting friends and relations in Europe this summer and fall, and am making my home available to travelers to the Yosemite area while I am traveling.

The house has been gone over from top to bottom to ensure your stay is pleasurable and trouble free.

New, high quality linens, towels and tableware await your arrival.

About the Owner

My Name is Al Palisca. My son, brothers and I developed this land and built this house. It is my home.

I moved here from Pennsylvania in 1978 to explore and enjoy Yosemite National Park. I worked for the National Park Service in Yosemite for 27 years, married and raised two children here and just love it!

Great family retreat

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful time at Oak Medows. We found the home to be very comfortable & beautiful, and Mike was very helpful! We loved having breakfast & dinner on the patio, and we wish we would have had more time to spend at the house. The location was very convenient to town & a pleasant drive to Yosemite.
We have stayed at a number of VRBO rentals over the past several years, & we would say this has been one of our favorites!

A great getaway

  • 5 of 5
Our family really enjoyed our 2 day stay. It is perfect for a getaway vacation; we really got a chance to hole up and enjoy a relaxing weekend. The location is surprisingly convenient, being close to the town and a big mart (with an excellent craft beer selection). The house is gorgeous. The owner and his brother built it, and you can tell that there was a lot of thought into every aspect of the design. We took many pictures, and had our meals on the backyard alfresco style. Mike, the property manager, and his dogs are amazing, too. Would definitely go back.

Very beautiful and spacious house, we had 8 people in our party ( 4 adults and 4 kids). bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen and living area all were clean and in great condition. There are close by restaurants and coffee shops.

Mike (manager) was very nice and welcoming.

Beautifully constructed home near Yosemite

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Oak Meadows during our recent trip to Yosemite. The home is absolutely beautiful, and Mike took great care of us during our visit. The home is about 30-45 minutes from the park entrance, and it's another 30 minutes from the entrance to Yosemite Valley. That may sound like a lot of driving, but it's a nice commute and never seemed excessive. Plus, I'd take Oak Meadows over any lodging in Yosemite, including the Ahwahnee. We'll definitely stay again!

perfect get-away

  • 5 of 5
We picked this gem as a get-away/starting point for our family of 7, including my god-child from Germany. It was a perfect choice, since this house is very airy and roomy and had enough space for us all, especially those 4 teenagers. The pictures you see on the website are very accurate - the house has a very modern, yet folksy kind of touch. It is super clean, and, very important, the beds are comfy; the kids especially liked the bed in the loft. They have changed the outdoor area and now there is a table and BBQ (much better, I think, than a fancy heating element....it was still warm at night anyway).
The kitchen is very well equipped (even with sandwich bags, foil, spices, etc) and we prepared all our meals there and also used the grill outside for a BBQ. The property is huge and you can go for a little hike/walk from here. My husband, who is a runner, went up those windy back country roads to exercise himself and our dog.
You will be greeted and taken care of - if you like - by the property manager Mike, who is super helpful and knows the area very well. He lives in a separate unit but on the same property with his very friendly dogs. One day the coffee maker broke and he immediately took care of this and even offered us freshly brewed coffee from his kitchen!
The drive to Yosemite is about 1 h, but a scenic one. We did not mind the distance. Mariposa has a well sorted supermarket, post office and a few restaurants. I wished we could have stayed longer.
The owner, Kath Rufo, is also super easy to work with. She is very professional, has a super fast response time and is a very friendly and helpful person.
So this was an overall super great experience. We have been doing VRBO for over 8 years and this was by far the overall most pleasant experience. You won't regret booking this property and staying there!!!

Great

  • 5 of 5
Our visit centered around hiking in Yosemite. We were 3 couples in our 50's. The house is wonderful. The pictures do it justice for the most part, however, the loft is a bit tricky. I would only recommend it for a teenager. Access is by a sliding ladder, which is really cool, but not for "mature" adults who may need to visit the restroom in the middle of the night. :) The only minor complaint would be the bed size. The beds were very comfortable, but a double bed for two people is not the best scenario. Mike the property manager was, as stated in other reviews, most helpful and so pleasant. A great guy. We learned a lot about the area and Yosemite from him. The house is clean, the kitchen well stocked and the area is relaxing. We had coffee and pastries at Pony Expresso one morning. Great coffee in our opinion, and we are pretty opinionated about coffee! We had green smoothies at the High Country Health Food Store and bought some groceries there as well. They also fixed us delicious sandwiches for our hike that day. The grocery store, Pioneer Market, was adequate but not what we were expecting. We ate dinner at Savoury one night in Mariposa. We enjoyed ourselves, but honestly the best evenings were when we cooked or grilled ourselves and just relaxed at the house. We spent a couple hours our last day in town shopping. It is a quaint little town with shops unique to the area which gave it a distinct personality. We would and have already recommended this property! It was a great vacation.

Location

From the Owner

Mariposa is a wonderful place to live, work and play. The weather is fantastic and there are many outdoor activities close at hand. The slower, rural nature of Mariposa County is appealing in a wholesome and fulfilling way. Come and unwind, relax and feel the peacefulness of the rural lifestyle while you explore Yosemite and the surrounding area. My older brother Mike has agreed to be the caretaker, greeter and maintenance person and stays in the studio apartment behind the adjacent garage/shop. Mike is also available to help with whatever you might need during your stay, be it driving directions, or recommendations on what to see or where to dine.

Amenities

From the Owner

This plans for this house was originally designed by David Arkin and Anni Tilt as a 4 bedroom Straw Bale house. it was constructed in Mill Valley, California in 2000 and was named 'Natural Habitat'. I purchased and modified the plans to allow the house to be built into the hillside here in Mariposa. The Straw Bale walls were replaced with insulated concrete walls that could withstand burial in the earth and the size increased slightly. The following description of the house is from the Healthy Home Plans website. 'Natural Habitat is featured in the newly released book, 'The New Strawbale Home', received the Western Home Award from Sunset magazine, and was featured in Real Simple Magazine. This stunning and inspirational strawbale family home does not isolate its residents from one another or from the surrounding environment. The architects, David Arkin & Anni Tilt, a husband and wife team, conceived of and designed this home to give the residents a sense of being at home in nature. This four-bedroom home is a showcase of environmental innovations, beginning with its modest size. The smaller claim on resources of all kinds is where building green really begins. At 1,860 square feet, it is 470 square feet smaller than the average new American house, yet it feels open and unconfined and more than big enough for a family of five. The kitchen, living and dining areas share one generous space with differing ceiling heights, from an intimate 8 feet to a lofty 16 feet, to define each area. While compact, the floor plan still includes a variety of intimate spaces - a separate entryway, a laundry room, and a window covered office alcove behind the kitchen - providing private places to retreat to.' This house is simply a joy to live in with beautiful and abundant natural light filling the living space. The surrounding land is peaceful and private, yet only 1 mile from the town of Mariposa, where you will find everything you need for your stay.
