About the Owner

I grew up in the bay area and frequently visited Carmel with my family as a child. In the summers, I would enjoy tennis camp and long walks on the beach.

Family Wedding Weekend

  • 5 of 5
We were in Carmel for our niece's wedding and stayed in the Seahorse cottage for 3 nights. It was wonderful. One of our party was on the red-eye from Alaska. They graciously opened the cottage for his early arrival and he was able to get in a nap before all the festivities began. After the first walk up-hill on our way from town, we were seasoned and continued to walk everywhere. What a great weekend. Thanks so much.

Great house

  • 5 of 5
We booked this home 7-8 weeks in advance and got terrific weather in early November. I liked the fact that the home was 8 - 10 minutes (walking) from downtown. It is a little steep, but a nice brisk walk and close enough to some restaurants like Katy's and Vesuvio's and Bruno's Market, for things you may have forgot to bring.

We were able to get to the Aquarium in less than 15 minutes, the Mission in 5 minutes and Point Lobos in 10 minutes. The location is terrific.

The house was really clean, updated and charming. Our 6 year old daughter was disappointed, when we had to leave. A couple of the reviews have some excellent recommendations, Trip Advisor does as well. You cannot fit everything into a 3 day weekend. We've been going there for years and simply ran out of time. That means we'll go back and do it again later. Hopefully this house is available.

I gave this house 5 stars, but have a couple of suggestions: The cable choices are limited. If you're interested in watching ESPN, HGTV or A&E, you're out of luck. More options for TV would be nice. As someone else mentioned, the WiFi was a little spotty. I had limited access on an IPad, but my wife did better with a her lap top.

Pretty good location

  • 3 of 5
The house is nicely laid out is right on the edge of town. It is a little bit of hike down/up the hill to get to the shops and restaurants - it isn't a far walk, just a steep one...

Only a couple small complaints. 1) The wifi wasn't great in all parts of the house 2) The house wasn't super clean. Not terrible, but not great.

Relaxing stay in beautiful Carmel

  • 5 of 5
This charming cottage was just what we needed for a week in Carmel. The house was spotless and thoughtfully outfitted. Just 5 blocks from the main part of Carmel. An easy walk into town with a steep incline to get back home but we got used to it. We would return again without question.

Great House

  • 5 of 5
The house we very nice, as least as good as the pictures showed. It was comfortable and nicely appointed.

Manager was responsive and quickly took care of the one issue we had.

As others have mentioned, the walk up the hill from town or the beach provides some great exercise.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5
This is an excellent property. Why ? It was immaculately clean and well-furnished. The beds were all comfortable. The kitchen was well-appointed, knives/crockery/glasses all present, and the provision of salt/pepper/spices etc was most welcome. Also the provision of dishwasher tabs - so annoying when you arrive to one tab !!!! TV worked fine and Netflix was an unexpected bonus - our teenage daughters cherished the excellent wifi performance (too much!). The washer/dryer set up in the garage was great and very useful mid-holiday/roadtrip.
The walk back from Carmel is a trifle steep but only a modest workout and there were taxis available. We jogged 15 mins down to the shopping centre at Crossroads (via the lovely Mission trail for a part) and strolled back 30mins with groceries - all very easy.
Carmel is very pleasant - a bit like Disney by the Sea - and has a lovely beach albeit our weather was a bit British, that is grey and luke warm.
Point Lobos reserve a couple of miles south was beautiful - Sea Otters spotted and watched for 20minutes playing and feeding - brilliant. Big Sur to Peffer Beach was an hours drive to and fro' - v.scenic.
We ate out several times in Carmel and the food was always good and reasonable value -the Californian wine was very very good.
Much preferred Carmel to Monterrey albeit Bike Hire from there (at Blazing Saddles, Cannery Row) and riding the coast path both North and South was fabulous. The Monterrey Aquarium was good but not as good for Otters/Seals/Sea Lions at Point Lobos. Stay away from Sly McFlys in Monterrey - our only bad meal in 3 USA weeks.
The drive to Pebble Beach ($10 access fee per day) is really worth it, and as a Golfer, it was great to be able to saunter to the 18th green and watch a couple of groups come home - I will be back to play it (and several others if I am spared and favoured).
Suggestion at the Cottage would be for a curtain on the front door for night-time privacy (we improvised with large maps!), and maybe slide bolts on all external doors for extra peace of mind - that said, we never felt threatened but a little extra comfort might be good. Great Place - thank you.

Location

From the Owner

I like this property because its very authentic vintage cottage. The original interior craftsmanship has been preserved. Many of the houses in the Carmel only have two bedrooms and I wanted at least three to accommodate friends and visitors. All the rooms are very spacious, especially the living room with it's vaulted ceilings. One of the bathrooms was preserved and the other tastefully updated. All the bedrooms are private and quiet. The kitchen is spacious and was recently updated and offers views of the garden through the bay window.
