3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, Large Deck, Close to Beach

Shangri-La is a beautiful octagonal home located on Old Bank's Road. View our many photos and new video of Shangri-La. Have a look at our Facebook page with numerous photo albums and links about the island. The house is surrounded with tropical flowers, fruit trees, and a meadow that stretches to the Atlantic Ocean. The wrap-around deck is a perfect spot for enjoying the breezes from the Atlantic Ocean while eating outdoors. Once you enter this log home you will be welcomed with the airiness of the thirty foot ceiling and the tropical art work throughout. The open concept living room, dining room and kitchen will allow you to visit and enjoy your vacation with all of your family members. The two bedrooms are extremely roomy and come with their own ensuite bathrooms. The master suite has a king size four poster bed, while the second suite has two queen sleigh beds. For those who need extra sleeping room the open loft is equipped with a king bed and twin bed. A third washroom/laundry room is available off the main living area. The house is located on the most fantastic cottage road and has easy access to the Queen's Highway through a private gated road. A short walk along a path takes you to a breathtaking, deserted Atlantic Ocean beach where you can beach comb, snorkel, suntan, or get lucky enough to swim with wild dolphins. A short walk along the beach or cottage road will take you to Sky Beach Club and Bistro Restaurant where you can enjoy a cocktail at the swim-up bar or dine while taking in the view of the Atlantic Ocean. Come stay at Shangri-La and enjoy the beauty of Eleuthera! Shangri-La, Eleuthera can be found on Facebook. Please post comments and be sure to like our page.

Fantastic fit for a family!

  • 5 of 5
Shangri La is nestled amongst palm trees which create much needed shade for little vacationers, and is a short walk away from a beautiful beach for big vacationers. The house is clean, well stocked, and very comfortable. The owners were very helpful and the team they work with on the island were all lovely. We absolutely recommend this property and hope to return one day.

Great get away house

  • 5 of 5
we stayed a long weekend at Shangri La and the house was perfect. It was really homey. It has almost every amenity you can imagine. It is nestled amongst some nice shade trees and the ocean is only a one minute walk over the hill. It's in a nice quiet area, we didn't hear a sole. The loft is not ideal for someone that likes to sleep in as it is open to the living area, however, the 2 bedroom are super spacious and very quiet. You cannot hear anything in the other room. I highly recommend this house.

Owner's Response: Thank you for choosing our house for your long weekend get away. We appreciate your review and hope that you return for another triathlon in Gregory Town. We love the quiet atmosphere of Shangri-La and the tropical meadows that surround it. The quick walk to the beach, makes it so easy to go snorkelling and swimming. Banana Beach is always so quiet and beautiful!

Five days in Shangri-la

  • 5 of 5
This house was perfect for our family. There were 6 in our group; 2 active 60+ yr olds, 2 40 somethings, and two teenagers. The boys loved the loft space, it was perfect for teenagers to have their own space, but still be around and participate in the conversation. The large deck was great for morning breakfast and reading, and was a good place for early risers to hang out while the rest of us were waking up. The long two-track road that runs in front of the house and goes along the beach is perfect for running. The beach is a short walk from the house and was stunningly beautiful. While we were there, the waves were big enough for gentle body surfing--gentle enough for all six of us to enjoy. The house was well-stocked with things you usually have to purchase when you rent a house (salt, pepper, spices, sugar, tea, etc), as well as towels, snorkeling gear, lawn chairs, etc. The location was great for us....a short drive to Governor's Harbour as well as gorgeous beaches on the Caribbean side and many more on the Atlantic side. It was also very close to the airport, but not close enough to be bothered by airplanes. Brian, the property manager, was very helpful with getting us into the house and making sure we had everything we needed. While we were there, a strong wind blew from the east, and it was great to be able to head to the sheltered Caribbean beaches.

We liked so much about our trip and our stay at Shangri-La, it's hard to come up with things we didn't like or could be improved. One of our party, me, got a lot of bug bites. I think they might have been little sand flies down at the beach, but I only seemed to notice them at sunset. There were some small flying beetles that the kids noticed at night, but frankly, I was glad they weren't mosquitos or cockroaches. There were frequent power outages, but I think this was an island-wide problem. The Wi-Fi worked well. There was no TV, which was mostly a blessing. We were visiting in the midst of the NCAA basketball tournament and would have enjoyed watching the games at home. But since there was no TV, we went to Ronnie's Hi-d-Way to watch the game, and that was one of the highlights of the trip. The local people were so friendly and warm, it was really a great time.

Owner's Response: Thank you for sharing your holiday experience at Shangri-La with other vacationers. The house is a perfect size for a large group and the variety of amenities make it very comfortable. New bedding, towels, and furniture have just recently been added to the villa. Old Bank's Road is my favourite road on the island for exploring, enjoying evening walks, or for taking a jog. Banana Beach is such an incredible beach for a variety of reasons. It sounds like everyone in your group enjoyed your day of body surfing. We are lucky to have a very professional property manager who takes great pride in sharing our home with others. As a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker, he is always available to share real estate opportunities with those who want to purchase a piece of paradise. The no see ums are a concern for me, while others in my family are not bothered at all. A good bug repellent applied at dawn and dusk when they are the most active, really helps. I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed time at Ronnie's watching the basketball games. The Bahamian people are so friendly and welcoming to travellers. I can understand why that experience was one of your favourites. Thank you very much for staying at Shangri-La and for sharing your great vacation stories with others. We look forward to your return!

Simply great.

We stayed for a week in a group of 5. The property is very clean and well maintained. There are ample ceiling fans to keep the air comfortable and circulating. The bedrooms also have AC units if they are required. The outside shower is nice too. We stocked up on groceries and beer the first day and cooked most of our own meals in the kitchen and on the BBQ. Groceries are a little over 5 minutes drive up the HWY. We did eat out at a few different local restaurants as well.
The nearest beach is on the Atlantic side and takes about 1 minute to get there on foot. The water is warm and very clear. Snorkeling is excellent. There are several reefs to explore. It was also very private. We saw a handful of people pass by throughout the entire week.
We had access to a vehicle and were able to tour a good section of Northern Eleuthera as well as water taxi (5$) to Harbour Island for lunch. Getting around is a breeze as there is pretty well one main road but you drive on the left side.
I would recommend this property for pretty much anyone. You can relax on any of the nearby beaches bordering the Atlantic or Caribbean. Or if you're up for exploring, you can check out Preachers Cave, the abandoned navel base, or the beautiful glass window bridge. I wish we had more time to check out the South end.
Can't wait to return! Oh, and try the hot sauces!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to write a review for Shangri-La. As a group of five young, professionals, it's exciting to hear how much fun you had on this "quiet" island retreat. Being able to share meals and cocktails, listen to music, and just enjoy everyone's company is one of my favourite things to do while I am there. The hot sauces that you refer to must have been from Eleuthera Island Farms. They have the best salsa, home made bread, fresh vegetables, and of course hot sauces. Spending time at Banana Beach is definitely a daily activity during my stays at the house. I really enjoy bringing a cooler, beach chairs, and snorkelling gear to the beach and spending hours there. It is always as private as you noticed! It's usually so quiet, that when you do see someone coming, you wonder what they are doing on your beach! It sounds as though your group really enjoyed touring the island. Day trips to various places on the island are so much fun. I have been travelling to the island for six years now and I still have many beaches to discover. Thank you again for submitting a review. Your group of young professionals is welcome to return when your schedules allow for another vacation.

Shangri La- Paradise Found Part 2

  • 5 of 5
PART 2 of 2
Shangri La is centrally located, making it a perfect launching pad for excursions throughout the island. During our stay we drove as far north as Bottom Harbour and as far south as Rock Sound, neither trip taking more than about an hour. Everywhere we went the beaches were quiet with crystal clear water full of interesting things to see. Our girls made a list of sea creatures they wanted to encounter while on vacation and we were able to check all but one of them off our list by week’s end. On several occasions we concluded our day with a walk to the nearby Sky Beach Club Resort where we had a drink and watched the girls swim in the spectacular infinity pool.
If we are fortunate enough to return to Eleuthera we would hope to see even more of the Island. We might consider renting a vehicle with 4 wheel drive as some of the beach access roads are difficult to navigate with a standard vehicle.
We loved our trip to Eleuthera and hope to have the opportunity to return. Unlike other accommodations that function solely as a place to sleep, Shangri La made our vacation a truly relaxing and memorable experience.

Shangri-La Paradise Found Review Part 1

  • 5 of 5
Part 1 of 2
In February 2014, thanks to a family connection, our family was fortunate to rent Shangri-La for a week.
Prior to making the trip we had several email discussions with the owners about attractions to see and other helpful tips to make our trip truly memorable. They responded to our emails quickly and were clearly passionate about Eleuthera and eager to ensure we had a good time.
When we arrived at Governor’s Harbour airport we were greeted by the property manager and our rental car contact. The property manager escorted us to Shangri La. After a brief tour of the home and all its amenities we followed him to Governor’s Harbour where he gave us helpful suggestions for shops and restaurants.
When we settled into Shangri La we found it to be a very clean, spacious and tastefully decorated house. The property is beautiful with a wrap-around porch, large bedrooms, airy living room and dining room. The large ceiling fans and screened windows kept us comfortable and bug-free during the nights. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything you would need to cook a meal. We tended to have breakfast and dinner at Shangri La and to eat lunch at some of the great local restaurants while we were out exploring.
Our daughters, aged 8 and 10, loved having their own bedroom with adjoining bathroom. They also enjoyed having the loft as their own private play space. They had fun reading in the hammock and exploring in the large yard. In the evenings they used the Wi-Fi in the house to watch the occasional TV show.
Shangri La is situated a brief walk to a beach on the Atlantic side of the Island. When the tide was out we enjoyed walking along the reef looking at the marine life. At other times of the day our girls had fun playing in the waves. We rarely encountered anyone on the beach and when we did they were always friendly and enthusiastic in suggesting interesting things to see and do in Eleuthera.

Owner's Response: We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay at Shangri-La. We really enjoyed answering your questions about the island and helping you to prepare for your trip. Sharing this beautiful place with others is very exciting for us. It's nice to hear that you enjoyed Banana Beach, the reef, and that you were able to spot a great deal of ocean life. Day trips exploring the island, are always filled with adventure and something new to see. As our first renters, we are so pleased that you enjoyed the airiness of the house and it's tropical decor. We look forward to your return to Eleuthera and another stay at Shangri-La.
