The Dog House: Over An Acre Of Privacy against the Nat'l Forest

The Dog House: Over An Acre Of Privacy against the Nat'l Forest

Property Details

Updated: Mar 29, 2015
2 Bedroom, 2.5 Bath, Maximum guest party of 4 (including kids)

No pet fees! Central Air Conditioning! You want to get away from it all? Look no further for the right property to visit! The Dog House is a dog-friendly 2 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home (maximum of 4 human guests, regardless of age) with a large wrap-around deck and a fenced in yard (4' chain link). You will see and enjoy the views from the deck - beautiful trees and ridges to see and the sky is usually amazing as well.

We are just 1/2 mile from the East Verde River if you want to go and play in the cool water. Otherwise, there are plenty of hiking trails around and the national forest right out our back yard! You won't see your neighbors, except the wildlife.

The house has a large great room complete with comfy furniture, and windows galore! The room is overlooked by the loft, which we've set up to use as a reading nook or game room. We've assembled a fairly good collection of board games to enjoy on a rainy afternoon or cold winter's night.

The kitchen is complete with all appliances, including coffee maker, microwave and dishwasher. We've stocked some basic spices as well as coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.

Wildlife sightings so far: bobcat, elk, white tail deer, raccoons, coyotes, rabbit. We've seen bear prints, but no bear yet!

We are licensed by and pay taxes to the State of Arizona for this business. We also donate 5% of our gross income to a local animal shelter.

Holidays require longer stays.

Please note: there are three steps from the living room to the rest of the house, and five steps from the back yard or front yard to the deck/front door. This may be difficult for senior pets or pets with walking problems. We added a ramp (Sept, 2014) from the master bedroom to the back porch to provide older pets an alternative to stairs.

About the Owner

After vacationing with our dogs in several VRBO homes over the last 8 years, we decided it was time to purchase our own vacation home! We searched for over a year for the perfect vacation setting in Payson, Arizona. We live in Scottsdale and love to travel to the Payson area and up into rim country. We moved to Arizona from Ohio (with a couple of stops in Florida and Oregon as well!) and although we miss Ohio State University, we enjoy the state of Arizona and all it has to offer. The diversity is amazing. We have been using VRBO as guests for the last 5 years, so we like to think we know a thing or two about what our guests might want. That's why it was such a hard search for this home. We are huge pet lovers - Tom is a pet photographer in fact. We never travel if we can't take our pets, so that's why our focus on dog-friendly accommodations.

Guestbook comments from the owner

THANK YOU so much for the wonderful stay at your Payson home. I've rented dozens of homes on VRBO over the years (mostly out of state) and I have you say - yours - is one of the cleanest! Everything was so nice. As a dog owner I know how much dirt and dust dogs and bring into the house. The house was perfect size, so much room, loved the windows, the porch and the yard. The wall hangings, to the pictures, blankets and dog beds- so unique. The location of the house- AWESOME as it was set back a bit by itself. You felt as if you were truly in the forest.

My wife and I were blessed to be able to stay here. The owners were very quick to respond to our questions beforehand and it was a beautiful place to stay.

This place was absouletly beautiful. The house is well kept the view is amazing, and its just such a warm feeling walking into the house. My dogs had a blast, and now im going to make it a tradition to go every year and bring my fur babies. There is also great hiking near by as well as some historic ruins. Which i thought was really cool. The owner is so nice and was very helpful with any questions i had. I would recommend this place for anyone to vacation to. Especially if you want to get away from the city. we loved this place so much we hardly left besides to go get more food to cook up. :)

Privacy in the beautiful Payson valley!

My wife and I were looking for a secluded getaway from the city and the Dog House exceeded our expectations! The Owner was responsive to my queries and we had no issues. The home is equip with anything and everything you can think of to the firewood for the fire pit in the yard to complimentary wine. Although we were secluded the wireless network provided us with access to perform business meetings which we took on the porch which was spectacular.
Thanks for a great time.

the usage limitations and "clean up" demands on renters are way beyond norm. dishes and cooking utensils minimal. owner goes to great length to discourage more than 2 people in home at one time. Moreover, the detailed information requested about us and our prospective guests exceeded reasonable precautionary information.

in addition, there is no meaningful emergency contact information particularly in light of the remote location and limited or no cell phone availability. owner response is slow and there should be a prompt response emergency contact phone number

Amazing...Home away from home

There is a lot of work and thought into this place; we couldn't believe how awesome this place was. From the dog treats to the fun games; the owners go way out our of their way to make for a great place to vacation/getaway. Dogs loved the outside area; it was hard to get them in sometimes. The kitchen is very well supplied with everything you need. Lots of areas to hike; small creek down the road was great! On our last night we were lucky enough to see a pack of elk walk by; kids loved to see those big guys! The owner is very responsive and provides great info.

Thank you for providing such a great place; we will be back soon.

A Dog Lover's Dream

This is an immaculately kept home that instantly makes you feel welcome. There were little dog treats, wine and cookies just to make you feel at home. It is spacious and well equipped. The wrap around porch and ability to eat outside on the deck was an added benefit. The owners are extremely responsive and had my refund done while I was still on the drive home! The only change that would have helped me would have been to have a less rocky enclosed yard as my dog is post ruptured disc surgery and it made me a little nervous out back. This would not be an issue for most dogs and posed no problem for my other dogs. It has neighbors that are not very close which added to the feeling of a real getaway. You cannot go wrong with this place for you and your four legged friends! It is a real find...

From the Owner

This lot is as near perfect as we could get! It backs to the Tonto National Forest and the other sides of the home are well protected from the trees and space so you can forget there are other people living nearby!
